Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: Mission 2

"Fucking curse."

His mood turned foul and the charming smile he just made lost its luster. However, things are not yet at its finest! His elation is not over yet!

And so as his curse....

Chris held the information card of the Metal Plated Fan that he casually grabbed in the scammer store. His hands trembled in delight while excitement and fascination was plastered in his face.

"HEHEHEHEHE!"

His eyes burned with passion while eyeing the metal plated fan. Soon after, an eerie sound of giggles filled his entire room while satisfaction is evident on his face.

Chris felt the surging wave of elation from his body and could not help but laugh sonorously. His laugh though sounded more like giggles which made him feel annoyed.

If others were to witness the sudden changes in his emotion, it would certainly lead them to a conclusion of psychological bipolar issues.

Chris sighed in defeat and checked the Wings of Prey, appreciating its dark metallic luster. He even counted the plates of this folding fan just to check how many projectiles could be sent if he use one of its special traits.

"24 metal plates..." He mutrered while nodding his head.

He even thought of using the fan as a blade due to its sharp ends. This satisfied him even more as he realised that the item he casually grabbed turned out to be more useful than he previously thought.

What makes him more excited though would be the mysterious conical bamboo hat which kept on emitting a strong surge of bloodlust.

The uncanny thing about this item though is that the bloodlust it furiously emit seems to be invisible to others and only he could feel it.

Unlike the other items he purchased, this bamboo hat has no information card. This made him wonder about the mystifying origin of this enigmatic hat.

"Hmm...."

While busy thinkering and studying the hat, a sudden knock came outside his dorm room and Chris realised that this might be an academy staff.

His thoughts came out true as soon as he opened the door. The staff just handed him two envelopes containing details of his mission and his soon to be met team members.

"One of your team members took the initiative to assign a specific meeting place for you guys. It is written in the back of your envelope." After handing out the letters, he casually left and knocked on the next door.

Chris who appears calm on the surface felt his heart race its beat in excitement once more. He wasn't feeling nervous or anything aside from an expectant feeling of receiving a mission and getting the bounty upon accomplishing it.

This is the very mindset of materialistic mercenary that he is. He doesn't bode well though knowing that there will definitely be a problem with his team members.

He was certain about this! He's even expecting someone to die in his worst case scenario.

"It's either a burden or an impulsive shit head." He sighed mentally while eyeing the envelopes

He opened the envelope containing a list of team members that will partake for the mission he got.

His eyes showed nothing but a dead pan expression, not expecting anything from pampered newbies in the list.

[List of Members:

Edzel Wayne

Chris Matthews

Leon Fergus

Eric Smith

Gino Sanchez]

Chris shook his head upon seeing two familiar names below the list. He doesn't have much opinion for pompous brats but he certainly knows for a fact that there's going to be a dispute once they saw him again.

That's right... Again!

Those two on the list are the two haughty punks who scoffed at him from time to time when they are just about to get to Charm Academia.

The brats who were brought by Old Murk which seems to held a significant status in the inner sanctum of Luzonia Circle.

Chris flipped the envelope and saw the location of meeting for this team. He just narrowed his eyes and looked at the small clock in his table.

"Let's meet in the cafeteria at dinner time."

This fancy hand writing made Chris felt a hint of familiarity. A certain face appeared at the back of his mind but he just casually shrugged it off.

'To hell with this meeting.'

He then opened the other envelope and skimmed through the details of his mission. Afterwards, he once again brought back his attention towards the mysterious conical bamboo hat.

Chris tilted his head while pondering deeply on what could be the mystical effect of this bamboo hat.

It is way too simple in appearance that one might think that this is just a normal item. However, the suffocating aura it emits from time to time says otherwise.

One should know that before his seniors could sell any curse object, they will have to go through the process of appraisal and observation.

This is to ensure the safety of the item that will be sold and to also ensure that no curse object would go haywire once used by the purchaser.

With nothing to start, Chris decided to end his thoughts and slipped the hat inside his port card before walking out of his dorm room.

He brought with him the letters and let out a sigh while walking towards the designated meeting place written in his envelope.

"There's no escaping this." He murmured quietly.

It didn't took long before Chris arrived at the meeting place. He entered the Dining Hall and for the first time, ordered something from the menu!

"It's you again... What would you like to have?"

The sales manager let out a frustrated sigh knowing full well that the fellow in front is a cheapskate.

To his surprise though, the student that usually cooks for himself looked towards the menu for the first time!

"I'll have some rice and....." He stopped for a bit, scanning the entire menu.

"Adobo should be good."

"I'll repeat, a serving of rice together with adobo. Anything else that you'd like to add up?" The sales manager instantly gave Chris his sweetest smile while taking note of the order.

"I'll add Maja Blanca for dessert and a glass of orange juice for my drink."

"We'll serve it in your table." The sales manager, professional in every way, immediately concluded their conversation and clipped the note in the kitchen counter.

Chris did not pay attention towards the latter and immediately paid for his order. He then walked around the dining hall as he tried to locate a prim and proper looking student.

His eyes didn't betray him as it took seconds for him to see Leon Fergus who at this moment is sipping with his glass of red wine.

Edzel also appeared in his peripheral smiling foolishly like a champ. Chris spared him a glance and felt an ominous foreboding in his guts.

"You look stupid." Chris walked past him and even left a snort.

Edzel smiled wider and his eyes even turning into slits due to his exaggerated grin.

Chris felt his hair stood up while waking beside the smiling fellow. For others, Edzel might appear to be a friendly and approachable person but Chris knows for a certain that this man is not as sane as he shows to be.

And at this time, Chris knows for a certain that this fellow is brewing another mischievous and troublesome scenario in his mind.

'He's up to no good.'
