Upon awakening in the morning, Viltz met up with his fellow students and Vice Rector Mardin, who opened a portal outside the Oxenfurt academy.
Passing through the portal, the group found a middle-aged woman waiting for them on the other side.
The woman smiled at the vice chancellor and greeted him, and the latter returned the greeting with a smile.
The woman opened a book she was holding and handed it to the vice chancellor along with a pen.
The vice chancellor took the pen and recorded his name and the names of the students with him before handing it back to the woman.
The Vice Chancellor turned to his students and said, "Okay, you bunch of scoundrels, you can attend the various lectures today to see what Oxenfurt is like, and tomorrow we will have an academic debate.
Remember to come back to this place when the sun sets."
The students nodded and dispersed, each going off in a different direction.
Viltz walked for a while until he arrived in front of the door of a building on which hung a sign on which was inscribed "Faculty of Chemistry and Alchemy."
As he was about to open the door to enter, suddenly a crash sounded on the upper floor, windows shattered and glass flew out.
Seeing the pile of flying debris, Viltz simply waved his hand and conjured a barrier to protect him.
Looking up, he saw cracks spreading across the entire second floor, as black smoke billowed from the now shattered windows.
Arching an eyebrow, Viltz decided to go inside to see what happened.
Upon entering, he found the entire main hallway filled with black smoke obstructing his view and flames everywhere. Waving his hand, he conjured a whirlwind with which he redirected all the smoke towards the open door while throwing water with his other hand to put out the fire.
He continued to do so as he climbed the stone stairs to the second floor.
When he reached the second floor, he found two ragged men lying on the floor passed out.
Without a word, Viltz grabbed them both by the neck and dragged them to the window, through which he threw them into a cart full of hay.
Now alone in the second floor, Viltz looked at the surrounding fire that was still growing, as putting out the fire with water would take a long time, he decided to put into action one of the spells he had recently mastered.
Waving both hands, Viltz shouted in his mind, "Pyrokinesis!"
The fire around him began to dance around him, as if it had taken on a life of its own.
Waving his hand, the fire in a two meter radius around him began to converge at one point as if it was being sucked up by something, forming a tennis ball sized fireball in Viltz's hand.
As it moved across the second floor, any fire that was within two meters of Viltz would be sucked into the fireball, causing the size of the fireball to grow larger and larger.
By the time it had finished sucking fire from the entire second floor, the fireball was already the size of a basketball.
Looking at the large fireball in his hand that looked like it would explode at any moment, Viltz ran to the window and threw it skyward.
Viltz wiped the sweat from his brow and went down to the second floor to put out the remaining fire.
When he was done, he had gathered another fireball of a slightly smaller size than the previous one.
Focusing on the fireball, Viltz analyzed, "So this is my current limit. With this fireball i can destroy a wall and a person would have no chance of survival if hit by it."
The fireball he gathered in his hand was the result of his deepening of fire magic over the years.
Using pyrokinesis, which allowed him to produce and control fire, he was able to control the surrounding fire into a condensed fireball, and unlike the normal fireball, this one required less mana consumption as only mana was consumed to control the surrounding fire.
"It's fine like this for now but if i try to control more than this my spirit will be depleted and the fireball could get out of control."
Stepping out the door to the second floor, Viltz pointed his hand to the sky, launching the fireball as far as he could.
The ball flew out until it reached 100 meters high and then exploded.
Clapping his hands, Viltz waved his hand to disperse the smoke around him, only to notice a large number of people standing around looking at him with strange faces.
Viltz blinked for a moment but decided to ignore all those people and instead turned and walked over to the hay wagon, pulling two dirty, soot-black-faced men from inside.
Conjuring two balls of water, Viltz threw them at the two men's faces, causing them to wake up with a start.
"Hello sleeping princesses, did you have a good dream?"
Hearing Viltz's taunts, the two men looked at him in confusion before looking at each other with even more confusion.
As the two men struggled to comprehend the situation they were in, a middle-aged man emerged from the crowd and began shouting at them.
"Kalkstein! Herman! You pair of bloody idiots! You just burned down the entire alchemy faculty!"
As he spoke, the angry man began pounding on the heads of the two men.
Kalkstein and Herman turned to look at the two-story building that was the alchemy faculty, it now looked like a mess with cracks all over the walls and smoke billowing everywhere.
The duo stared at the building with a look of disbelief on their faces before they heard the man shout, "That's enough! I've had enough! Get out! Both of you get out! You're out! I never want to see the two of you here again!
The two men paled at the man's words before they became discouraged and, looking at each other, could only sigh before getting up and starting to walk towards the outskirts of the academy.
The middle-aged man let out a snort before turning to Viltz and smiling at him by way of apology.
"Sorry about what just happened and thanks for saving those two and putting out the fire, if it wasn't for you the building would have been reduced to ashes."
"It's nothing, i just happened to be going into the alchemy faculty to attend some lecture but I was expecting such a... fiery welcome."
"Haha, you're good at joking little dude."
The middle-aged man rubbed the back of his neck with a bit of embarrassment and laughed.
"If you're interested in alchemy then that's a pity, as you can see now we have nowhere to hold classes and besides alchemy classes are in the afternoon.
How about this, let's go to the dining hall for lunch and there i can answer any questions you have about alchemy, you can think of it as a way to reward you for your help."
Viltz arched an eyebrow and asked the middle-aged man, intrigued by the latter's identity, "Excuse me but you are?"
"Ah! I forgot to introduce myself, i am Professor Opus Kroft, the deputy director of the faculty of alchemy and chemistry."
Viltz nodded and introduced himself as well: "I am Vilgefortz, an apprentice of Ban Ard."
Opus nodded with a smile and motioned for Viltz to follow him as they went to the dining hall, leaving behind the people gathered around the alchemy faculty building, who also dispersed after a while.
