Chapter 72 - Taking Parents Out for Dinner

"He didn't tell you the wedding was postponed?"

"What? It was postponed?" Ye Chen turned to Fatty in surprise.

No wonder Fatty was so relaxed today. According to the original plan, the wedding was tomorrow, so how could Fatty be so leisurely today? Turns out the wedding date had been changed.

"I got so excited that I forgot to tell you. The wedding is postponed to the 6th. Luckily, you have an eight-day break, so it won't interfere," Fatty said, scratching his nose.

When he first picked up Ye Chen, he meant to tell him, but then Ye Chen wanted to buy a car, and in the excitement, he completely forgot.

"Why did they change the date?"

Fatty scratched his head and said, "Because June 1st is Children's Day, and they felt having a wedding on that day seemed like a child's play. So, they moved it to the 6th for better luck."

"Alright, that reason makes sense."

For Ye Chen, it didn't really matter whether Fatty got married a few days earlier or later. He would attend no matter when the wedding was.

"Let's unload the stuff first," Fatty said.

"Sure."

"Unload stuff? What stuff?" Ye Chen's dad asked in confusion.

"Mr. Ye, it's the stuff Ye Chen bought for you and Mrs. Ye. It's all in my car."

"Oh no, why did you buy more stuff?" Mr. Ye exclaimed, slapping his thigh.

Mr. Ye was a stickler for frugality, but he knew that once things were bought, it was impossible to return them. Otherwise, he would have already insisted on returning the things Ye Chen bought before.

"Dad, this time it's not expensive. I bought them from the supermarket," Ye Chen quickly explained.

He did buy them from the supermarket, but they weren't cheap. Ye Chen never skimped when buying things for his parents. Everything he bought was quite pricey.

Mr. Ye didn't know, but Fatty, who often shopped at big supermarkets, knew. However, he didn't say anything because he understood Mr. Ye's personality.

Even though Ye Chen said the things weren't expensive, Mr. Ye still felt a pang of distress seeing so much stuff.

No matter how inexpensive, this much stuff must cost a lot! His son's monthly salary wasn't much, and these items probably cost half his month's pay.

"Son, don't buy any more next time. Keep more money for yourself. Young people have a lot of expenses. Your mom and I have enough to eat and drink; we don't need these things."

"Got it, Dad. Don't worry. I won't buy any more for a while."

He said "for a while," not "never again," because the things he bought this time would last his parents a long time.

He had no choice. If he didn't buy them and just gave his parents money, they wouldn't spend it. They'd save it for his future wedding.

This way, even though his parents would nag him a bit, maybe even scold him, he felt happy inside.

"Leave these behind." When only a few large bags were left in the car, Ye Chen said to Fatty.

"Huh? Why?"

"These are for Uncle Guo and Auntie Guo," Ye Chen said.

Hearing this, Fatty was momentarily stunned and said, "Ye Chen, you're not playing fair! No wonder my parents treat you better than me, their own son. You do all the things I should be doing."

Ye Chen rolled his eyes at Fatty and said, "Nonsense. They don't treat you well? Haven't they spent money to find you a wife?"

"Well..." Fatty scratched his head.

"Alright, stop talking. Just take these back and come over for dinner later."

"Fine, I'll take these back. But I won't join you for lunch. You just got home, so spend some time with your parents. I'll come over in the evening."

"Okay," Ye Chen nodded.

After Fatty left, Ye Chen took out his phone and saw it was already eleven o'clock. He turned to his parents, standing by the car, and said, "Mom, Dad, let's not cook lunch today. I'll take you out to eat."

"No, we're not going out to eat. It's too expensive," Mr. Ye glared at Ye Chen.

"Yes, son. Just tell me what you want to eat, and I'll cook it. No need to waste money eating out."

Ye Chen walked over, put his arm around his mom's shoulders, and said, "Mom, I just don't want you to work too hard. Let's just eat out this once. Please listen to me."

"You silly boy, I've been cooking for most of my life. It's no trouble."

At this moment, Mr. Ye said, "Why not listen to our son for once? Let's go out and have a meal for a change."

Mr. Ye did feel the pinch of spending money, but he also cared about his wife. If their son knew to let his mother rest, how could he, as her husband, not know?

With Ye Chen's persuasion and Mr. Ye's support, his mom finally agreed. Ye Chen quickly opened the car door and helped his parents into the car.

After his parents were seated, Ye Chen hurried to lock the doors before getting into the car himself.

Their home was in a village under the jurisdiction of Huoxian Town in Tongzhou, but they usually went to the market in Xianghe because it was closer than Huoxian Town.

So, Ye Chen drove his parents to Xianghe, about seven or eight kilometers away. The traffic was light, and they arrived in about ten minutes.

In Xianghe, there was a restaurant called Ah Hua's Shrimp. Ye Chen had long wanted to bring his parents there because his mom loved shrimp. However, they rarely bought shrimp because it was expensive.

Even when they did buy it, it was only when Ye Chen came home, and his mom would give him all the shrimp meat, claiming she liked the heads better.
