Chapter 27 - Night Shift Mode

"We're done playing. It's getting late. Let's get ready to eat. Starting tonight, we'll be on the night shift."

"Huh? Captain, isn't it our turn for the night shift?"

Captain Li Gang glanced at Fuzhu and said, "You're right. Normally, it's not our turn yet, but the weather is getting warmer, and there are more people out at night. For safety reasons, our team and Team Eighteen will be on night duty together for a month. After that, we won't have night shifts for a year."

"What? A month!" Fuzhu exclaimed again.

This guy was too lazy, which explained why he was so fat. Hearing that they would be on night duty for a month, he immediately protested.

"Yes, a month. Our team will be responsible for the perimeter and the underground parking lot, while Team Eighteen will handle the interior."

"It's actually not bad," Ye Chen chimed in.

"Huh? Chen Ge, isn't night duty tough?" Fuzhu looked at Ye Chen in confusion.

"It's not bad at all! Think about it! The weather is relatively cool at night, only around fifteen degrees..." Ye Chen stopped himself from saying more.

Sure enough, upon hearing Ye Chen's words, Fuzhu's eyes lit up. "Yeah! It's better to do night duty now than in winter, hehe."

"Alright, get ready, let's go eat first, and then change clothes."

"Captain, I..." Zhao Peng looked at Captain Li Gang.

Although he didn't continue, Li Gang understood what he wanted to say. "You'll team up with Ye Chen. You two will patrol the perimeter."

"Yes, Captain!" Zhao Peng exclaimed excitedly.

"Lower your voice, I'm not deaf." Captain Li Gang pretended to tap his ears.

"Captain, what areas are considered the perimeter?" Ye Chen asked at this moment.

Since he had just arrived here, he hadn't done night duty yet, so he didn't know what the perimeter entailed.

"Chen Ge, I know," Zhao Peng quickly said.

"Alright, that's settled then."

Ye Chen didn't mind either way. Whether it was night duty or day duty, he didn't really care. After seven years as a security guard, he had experienced minimal night shifts here because the place only opened during the day. Hence, the emphasis was on daytime security, and the night shifts were the same as daytime shifts in terms of workload.

After six teams washed up and had dinner, it was still early for their shift, but meal times were fixed, scheduled right after the day shift ended.

Night duty started at ten in the evening and lasted until six in the morning, also eight hours, followed by a day off.

Many people disliked night shifts because they had to wake up at noon to eat. Of course, they could choose not to wake up, but then they'd be hungry.

Moreover, there was no meal provided during night shifts. Of course, they could buy some snacks, but they'd have to pay for them out of pocket.

After dinner, Fuzhu lay down on his bed, saying he wanted to take a nap to avoid feeling sleepy later at night.

The real reason was laziness; otherwise, he wouldn't be so fat. Truly living up to his nickname, Fuzhu, which meant "rotten bamboo shoots" — sleeping after eating and eating after sleeping.

But no one bothered him. It wasn't time for work yet, so if he wanted to lie down, let him.

At nine fifty in the evening, the five members of Squad Six left the dormitory together. At this time, the other teams on break were either still playing or resting.

One good thing, however, was that the security guards didn't spend much time on their phones. Even during breaks, they would only play cards at most.

Unlike other young people who walked around with their phones, becoming part of the "head-down" generation.

As for Ye Chen, unless there was a call or message, he wouldn't take out his phone all day, except to check the time.

"Chen Ge, why are we patrolling from here to there?" Zhao Peng pointed to the other end of the mall.

"Huh! We're just patrolling this area?" Ye Chen was momentarily stunned.

Because what Zhao Peng said referred to the area from the south to the north of the mall, which was only about three hundred meters. The mall was adjacent to the main road, meaning their patrol route covered only these three hundred meters.

"Yeah! There's no need for us to patrol inside. Team Eighteen handles that."

"Alright then, let's get started."

"Yeah!"

While patrolling, Ye Chen noticed that Fuzhu was in the guard booth at the exit of the parking lot, Wang Yong was at the entrance of the parking lot booth, but he didn't see the captain.

There was no need to say; the captain was patrolling the underground parking lot, which also included the above-ground parking lot.

"Chen Ge, let's patrol together tomorrow too?"

"Huh? Why?"

"I... I'm scared to patrol alone."

"You... are really..." Ye Chen didn't know what else to say.

This guy was too timid. Only the perimeter patrol required two people. For places like the underground and above-ground parking lots, only one person was needed for patrol duty. Similarly, only one person was needed for guarding the entrance and exit of the parking lot. Therefore, whether it was patrolling the parking lot or guarding the entrance and exit, it could only be done by one person.

"Okay, I don't mind, but it depends on whether the other brothers are willing or not."

"Chen Ge, patrol duty is the toughest. Of course, they'll be willing."
