Chapter 5 - Villa in the City Center

Ye Chen didn't bother to tidy up; he simply stuffed his bag under the bed and headed out. The security team's quarters were in the basement, even two floors below ground level.

Emerging from the basement, Ye Chen followed the address provided in the property documents.

Although Ye Chen was a native of the Capital, he had hardly ever been to the city center. Even if he had, the city was so vast, and he had only been to a few places. Therefore, he was quite unfamiliar with this area.

But unfamiliarity wasn't an issue; after all, the mouth is right under the nose, so he could ask for directions. Asking a few people along the way, Ye Chen eventually arrived at the location of the property.

However, upon seeing the place in front of him, Ye Chen was astonished. This was within the Second Ring Road, and even within the Inner West Second Ring.

But what surprised him wasn't that; it was the fact that there was a villa area within the Second Ring Road.

Yes! Ye Chen was currently standing at the entrance of this villa area. He had no idea how large the villa area was because it wasn't discernible from the outside.

But from the surrounding high-rise buildings, it could be inferred that the central area wasn't very extensive. It was logical; such a large villa area wouldn't be situated within the city.

The name of the villa area was Fengsheng Court, located on Fengsheng Lane, just about three hundred meters westward from Fengsheng Lane.

Of course, despite being called Fengsheng Lane, it wasn't actually an alley; it was a six-lane road.

Fengsheng Lane was likely just the name of the place, similar to Lingjing Alley not far to the south.

From the East Tower where he worked to here, the straight-line distance was only about one and a half kilometers. Even taking the route, it wouldn't exceed two kilometers.

It was quite close, to be honest. However, upon reaching the entrance of the villa area, Ye Chen hesitated a bit. He wasn't sure whether he should enter or not.

But after just a few minutes of hesitation, Ye Chen decided to go in because he needed to figure out what was going on. Therefore, he must enter.

As soon as he reached the gate of the villa area, Ye Chen was stopped by a security guard.

"Hello, sir! May I ask what brings you here?"

Ye Chen initially wanted to say he was looking for someone, but who would he know here? He had no choice but to say, "I am the owner here."

It wasn't entirely untrue. After all, the property was under his name, and he had to say so to find out what was going on.

However, the guard scrutinized him and asked, "Sir, may I ask which villa you own?"

Ye Chen knew that he couldn't blame the guard. After all, he was a security guard himself and understood the challenges they faced.

The people who lived here were either rich or affluent. However, judging from Ye Chen's appearance, he probably didn't have more than five hundred yuan worth of clothing and accessories.

"I own Villa 6."

"Villa 6?" The guard was taken aback when he heard Ye Chen's answer, then looked at him in surprise.

Ye Chen didn't understand why the guard was so surprised, but he still handed over his ID card and said, "Here's my ID. You can check."

The guard took the ID card, glanced at it, and handed it back to Ye Chen, saying, "Let me take you in."

"Oh, okay."

Although Ye Chen didn't understand why the guard's attitude changed so dramatically, he could only nod in agreement.

The guard instructed a few other guards, then led Ye Chen inside.

Once inside, the entire villa area came into view. There were only sixteen villas in total, and Villa 6 was located in the middle of the villa area.

The reason for the significant change in the guard's attitude was because Villa 6 seemed like an ownerless villa.

Ye Chen had been here for four years and had never seen anyone move in. Even if someone did come, they only delivered things and then left. However, in the past year, even the delivery people stopped coming, and the property management fees were overdue for a year.

"Sir, have you never been here before?" The guard asked when he saw Ye Chen standing at the gate of the villa without entering.

"No, today is my first time."

"Um... then you..."

"Can you help me open the gate? I want to go in and take a look."

"I'm sorry, I can't. But if you're really the owner here, you can call the police and have them open the gate for you."

Seeing the thick layer of dust on the gate, Ye Chen knew that no one had lived here for a long time. Otherwise, there wouldn't be so much dust.

Originally, the guard just casually said so, thinking that if Ye Chen was really the owner here, he couldn't possibly not have the key.

But unexpectedly, Ye Chen nodded and said, "That's the only way."

Ye Chen was testing the waters. If he was really the owner here, the police would definitely help him open the gate. Moreover, with the police present, things would be easier to handle.

Ye Chen took out his phone and dialed 110. The police arrived quickly, within five minutes at most.

"Who made the call?" A policeman got out of the car and asked.

"I did." Ye Chen walked over and said.

"What's the matter with your call?" The policeman glanced at Ye Chen and asked.

"I am the owner here. This is my ID, but I didn't bring the key, so I can't get in." Ye Chen pointed to the villa behind him.
