Chapter 25 - Champion of the Earthling race

Pov Silent Shadow (Ethan):

After introducing the catgirls to Eva, I decided to take a well-deserved rest in my luxurious bed.

(It's a good thing Eva doesn't dislike cats), I thought as I looked at the two catgirls accompanying me.

They were the little one with golden hair and the older one with silver hair, who, unlike the others, didn't go out to play in the yard.

(Now that I think about it, I haven't named them yet...), I remembered. I've never been particularly good at naming things.

In fact, even my nickname 'Silent Shadow' came from some cartoon I watched in my childhood.

"Let's see... your hair is golden... Lumira? Yes, let's go with that. Your name will be Lumira," I said to the golden-haired catgirl.

(There was a character like that in my old favorite game... Lumira, the sun paladin), I nostalgically recalled my hours of addiction to 'War of the Worlds 7'.

Curiously, the tech core updated with the new information.

[Super Luxurious Beast Collar 02:

Name: Lumira 'Silent Shadow'

Female

Growth Stage: Infant

Species: Panthera Auratrix

Race: Native to the Tower

Talents: Feline Cunning, Royal Dignity

Skills: Feline Agility (F+), Wild Strength (F+), Stealth (F+), Wild Senses (D-), Great Roar (E)

Status: Healthy

Overall Rating: E]

(Hmm? My name is her surname now or something? And... that talent). I can understand Feline Cunning, after all, she's a catgirl, but Royal Dignity?

"Seems like you were born to be great, ha ha," I said while petting her.

After some brief petting, I turned my attention to the other catgirl with me.

"Now it's your turn. Let's see... actually, I have many possible names for you, but let's go with Selene," I decided for the silver-haired catgirl.

(Selene is the name of a lunar goddess, right?), I remembered from my literature classes.

[Super Luxurious Beast Collar 01:

Name: Selene 'Silent Shadow'

Female

Growth Stage: Adolescence

Species: Panthera Auratrix

Race: Native to the Tower

Talents: Great Intuition, Natural Leader

Skills: Feline Agility (F+), Wild Strength (F+), Stealth (F+), Wild Senses (D-), Great Roar (E)

Status: Healthy

Overall Rating: E]

And with that, her status window updated.

Low purring

But she didn't seem as happy when I petted her.

(It's not hard to guess why. It's because of Eva, isn't it?)

Being the oldest among the catgirls, it's natural that Selene was the former matriarch or at least the leader, as her talent indicates. She's probably feeling down about being replaced.

Petting

"Don't worry, it won't be long before you're the matriarch of your sisters again," I assured her while petting her.

Purring

(Yes, after all, I've invested a lot in those collars and bracelets, so it would be a waste not to use them), I thought while petting Selene.

Purring

Thinking about what Eva said, she's right, having more of these girls is very beneficial.

(Especially for me)

Even if these girls have limitations in their learning capacity...

(My children won't), I recalled that muta-gen, which makes my children not only superior but also have prodigious minds.

As for Eva, she will take a higher position once another race of beastmen integrates into our ranks.

"Though I'll have to wait for them to grow a bit more first."

--

After naming the two catgirls, I planned to take a nap, but I still had some pending things to do.

First was food.

(No problem for now), I remembered that I had a lot of food in my inventory (courtesy of certain players).

"Though I suppose I'll have to buy more food and maybe hire a maid," I said distractedly.

As for where they'll sleep... it wasn't really difficult.

"Together, without fear," was what I understood from Selene. Apparently, these girls always slept together, very closely together...

All I had to do was remove some mattresses from other rooms and set them all up in one particular room.

(It helps a lot that the rooms are ridiculously large), I marveled once again at the mansion's size.

Once the main tasks were done, it was just a matter of teaching them some trivial things: the mansion's boundaries, how to use the bathroom, not to enter the muta-gen or R&D labs carelessly, etc.

(Fortunately, cats are quite intelligent).

Curious, yes, but for that, there's the collar.

"I guess that's all for now," I said as I sat on the couch.

Purring

With Lumira by my side.

(Now that I'm more relaxed, let's check the notifications I missed).

[Kill streak of 20 enemies!

The leaderboard for enemies killed is now officially open!

Brave Warrior, your feats will not be forgotten by the tower!

You have been awarded the temporary title: Champion of the Earthling race]

[Kill Scoreboard:

1. Silent Shadow with 30 kills (Current Top Champion)

2. Luke with 1 kill

3. Killer Mon with 1 kill

4. Darth Rise with 1 kill

*Note: Only those who have killed more than 20 enemies without dying are worthy of the title 'Earthling Champions'. To move up the leaderboard, you just need to surpass the marks of the top rankers. (Only the top 10 will earn the title)]

"Interesting but expected," I said upon seeing this leaderboard.

What MMORPG doesn't have a leaderboard? Also...

(There are only two others besides me and Luke... not sure if this is good).

It's only been a day since the server opened, but only 4 people have killed our main enemy.

Though if you think about it, our race becomes more powerful over time, as technology is our main evolutionary path for now.

(I guess I'll worry about that later).

"Let's see... what's special about this title?" changing my focus and intrigued, I opened the description of this 'title'.

[Title: Champion of the Earthling Race (S) (Temporary)

Effect: Every time you kill a member of the enemy race, you earn 50% more credits for their elimination. Additionally, every 20 kills, this bonus increases by another 50%, with no limit.

Current Bonus: +50%

Negative Effect: If the Champion of a race is eliminated, the enemy will receive 500% more credits for their elimination. Additionally, this increases based on the bonus the Champion had accumulated.]

(Phew!, definitely a title to fear).

On one hand, you can get rich much easier by killing enemies, but on the other hand...

(If I get killed with a huge bonus...)

That lucky person will definitely become a threat to be feared.

[You have a private message!

Sender: Luke]

My thoughts were interrupted by this message...

(It's not hard to guess what he's going to say, but oh well. Remember Ethan, imposing yet elegant).

[Luke:

Luke: "Congratulations, partner! Now no one will doubt your power."

Silent Shadow (You): "I got lucky."

Luke: "Yeah, only you would say that after killing 30 of those goblins without dying."

Silent Shadow: "29, the first one was yesterday, remember."

Luke: "Right... Anyway, changing the subject, I've got good news! Remember Frederick? Turns out he found a lead mine relatively close to a deployment point."

Silent Shadow: "... Seems like he got lucky, but if you're telling me... it means he needs something, right? These things aren't shared with others, even if we're in the same guild."

Luke: "Correct, correct. It turns out this mine was occupied by the enemy, and well, many of Frederick's recruits died in an ambush, so he's requesting our help."

Luke: "He said he'd give us a percentage of the mine's production. It goes without saying how beneficial this would be on a personal level and for our race, right? Just look at the leaderboard you're topping to know that."

Silent Shadow: "You contacted me before he did... do you have something in mind?"

Luke: "As expected of the great Silent Shadow, always perceptive. Turns out I need the old man to owe me a favor, and what better way to do that than by getting the grand champion of the Earthling to join his cause? Don't worry, I'll compensate you well, you know me, right? I'm a man of my word."

Silent Shadow: "... Very well."

Luke: "Great! Then see you tomorrow, when Frederick's dogs revive. Also, don't forget to bring a coat, the weather there is completely different from the jungle."

Silent Shadow: "Understood."]

Purring

"Playing with friends is always more fun, isn't it?" I exclaimed into the air, while petting Lumira.

(Not like I can go back to the jungle anyway, not until I get more people or a more powerful toy), I recalled the number of enemies waiting for me there.

"I need a toy with area damage..."
