Chapter 19 - Predators 3

"You ready?" Margret asked Billy, who still had his hands held high, completely disregarding her teacher who stood in the middle, though she didn't even seem to notice it.

She couldn't, on one hand Alpha had been injured, on the other, the wolves, even after their companions death, were still determined to prey on the humans before them. Her mind was too conflicted, the sun was already dipping down the horizon, the horrors of the night were approaching, even if they were to kill the predators before them, then what? What next?

"Sure." Billy replied, gazing at the wolf, then the ground where it stood.

It almost appeared as if the kids could communicate telepathically or had somehow rehearsed everything that was to happen or happening. They too couldn't explain it, but their bodies moved, almost as if controlled by something else.

...

Cracks on the ground, where the beast stood, begun to appear, and before it knew what was even happening roots started sprouting, binding it on the spot.

Their abilities were not that powerful yet, the roots Billy could control at the moment were like vines, weak vines. This made the wolf with it's strength and strong canines tear them apart like a bunch of loose strings.

Though that what's they'd expected. Appearing from Margret's floating yellow balls, about three meters hands slithered under the wolf that was yet to tear off from all the roots, wrapping their long fingers around it's neck.

....

Mrs Taiyo still conflicted, stood at a daze, there was nothing she could do to help, she just watched as the whole scene unfolded before her.

.....

The wolf straggled to resist, but all appeared futile, as more roots sprouted binding it's body.

Not relying on their physical strength, Margret and Billy's abilities depended on their mental strength.....

....

Sweat dripped down her face as she tightly shut her eyes, clenching her fists tighter, she concentrated on strangling the beast that still had the vigor to resist.

Billy to her right, twisted and turned his hands trying to tightly bind the wolf, his mouth open as he gasped for air.

.....

Mrs Taiyo couldn't find the words of comfort to use, the only thing she could do was hold her breath and cross her fingers.

.....

The light deeming in the Wolf's eyes, it's ferocity toned down, giving way to it's puppy eyes and low whimpers. But this couldn't save it, both Billy and Margret knew that, right at this moment only one of them could come out alive and if the roles were reversed the wolf would've teared them apart, like the beast it was.

It's strength fading, it finally stopped resisting and a final whimper, a final cry of help escaped it's lips, yet it was never answered or more like there was no one to answer.

...

At the left side of the group, the third wolf laid, it's head bashed in and it's skin burned to a crisp, as it emited a roasting aroma.

Mercy stood there, her body shaking as if she couldn't believe what laid before her, to her right stood Levy, his eyes fierless as his shoulder length brown dreads cast a shadow on his face, with a satisfied smile he gazed at the dead wolf.

....

The left side, from Alpha's group laid the forth wolf, this one seemed to have died a brutal death. Though further away from the group, one could see two of it's limbs severed as they laid about five inches away from the body.

Liam smiled deviously as he adjusted his glasses on his nose bridgebridge and gazed at the two ladies beside him, who had the same devious smiles.

....

Witnessing all this, Mrs Taiyo eyes finally landed on Alpha's group where most kids seemed to have begun gathering.

Snapping out of the daze, she hurried torwards it

....

Seeing everyone sorround him with dumbfounded expressions, Alpha forced out a smile, though his right eye that wasn't bandaged couldn't hide his pain.

"Is it that bad." Margret, standing before him, massaging her forehead as if she had suddenly experienced a migraine, asked. Her words direct as usual, though this time everyone could feel the concern laced in her voice.

"Excuse me?" Mrs Taiyo, shoving past the mass of kids, squated where Alpha sat and begun inspecting the wound.

"It's not fatal, without proper medication, it'll take about two months to heal, nonetheless it will, only leaving scars." She said, after a minute of examining it.

With that, everyone immediately calmed down, Ciru who was almost driven to tears revealed an ear to ear smile.

Margret heaved, before she begun mocking with a smug displaying on her face.

"You almost died with all those weapons at your disposal, how does that even happen?"

"Yeah man, I remember you saying you were stronger than me." Billy snered.

"You could've even created a shield."

"Yeah."

"Or a machete to chop it's limbs off."

The mocking didn't affect Alpha, as it seemed to brighten the mood for a few minutes, before all their faces became groomy and dark again.

...

Mrs Taiyo listened in on the little exchange, but no matter how she tried, the fog in her mind and the weight in her heart couldn't clear or lift. The kids even after murdering, even if they were just wild beast, she would've expected at least some kind of a reaction that was not gloating, as if they just ate a turkey. She couldn't tell what it was yet, but she knew something terrifying was happening to them.

....

The sun had already dipped in the horizon, and the four crimson moons were forming.

What awaited in the darkness was about to awaken and roam.
