Chapter 1 - He who loves cheesecake

"Zephy, wake up! We're late! Come on, man, today's the entrance exam. Everything will be ruined if we don't get there on time," Ken shouted repeatedly, but Zephy didn't move. Ken had no choice but to grab a bucket of water and pour it on Zephy. Sarah, William, Carl, and the other kids brought a bucket of water and splashed them on Zephy. He jolted awake, shocked. "Ken, what the heck, can't a guy get some good sleep in this orphanage?"

"Yeah, a guy can sleep, but not when he has a darn entrance exam today," Ken retorted. Zephy got up, got ready, and they all left for the exam center. On the way to the exam center, Ken stopped at a few places to feed the stray cats and dogs in the neighborhood. He felt a warm sense of compassion as he gave them food and water. Meanwhile, Zephy stayed focused on revising everything for the exam. He hadn't studied before, so he knew he needed to catch up quickly.

They arrived at the examination center just before time ran out. Zephy went to his assigned block and started the exam. Since he wasn't well-prepared, he struggled to find answers and glanced around for hints, but didn't find much. Despite the trouble, Zephy managed to finish the paper and left the exam room to meet Ken. There was a mix of relief and anxiety on his face as he exited.

After the exam, both headed back to the Greenwood train station to go home. "Man, I messed up really bad again. Let's hope the examiner is lenient this time and passes me," Ken said with a worried tone. "The train for Fernhill will arrive on Platform number 2," announced the lady over the speaker. Greenword train station was located just outside the central district, so it had all the major features a train station should have. However, it lacked some security features, like barricades between the platform and train tracks. This made it more vulnerable to accidents.

Zephy and Ken waited for the train on platform number 2, bickering amongst themselves. Suddenly, just a few meters away on their left, some delinquents accidentally pushed a blind lady with a baby stroller towards the train tracks. Because she couldn't see, the lady fell onto the tracks. The delinquents panicked and ran away, leaving her and the baby in danger. "Help, please somebody, pick my baby up!" she shouted as she stood up. Her voice trembled with fear as she called out for assistance. Ken and Zephy felt shocked when they saw the helpless mother and her child on the tracks. Without hesitation, they rushed to help. Zephy jumped onto the track and handed the baby to Ken, then helped the lady climb onto the platform. The train was approaching fast. "Zephy, come on, get up! The train is coming, both of them are safe," Ken shouted anxiously.

Meanwhile, Zephy struggled to get the baby stroller off the tracks and onto the platform. Meanwhile, the guards came running from the platform 1 cabin to platform 2 to see what was causing the commotion. When they saw Zephy, they shouted for him to jump to the platform's opposite side because he might not be able to climb up onto the platform. Their voices carried urgency and concern as they tried to assist in the situation. Just in time, he succeeded and leaped to the opposite side as the train passed by. Both Ken and Zephy felt relieved that they had managed to save the mother and her child.

The train left the station, and Zephy returned to platform 2, where Ken and a crowd of people were gathered. Impressed by the boys' bravery, the lady awarded them 10 Sions as a token of gratitude. Before saying goodbye, Zephy went to the baby stroller, shook the baby's hand, and then bid farewell to the lady. There was a mix of relief and appreciation in the air as they parted ways.

Upon reaching Fernhill, Zephy mentioned he was going to Cafe Dellure to buy his favorite cheesecake with the money he got from the blind lady. There was a sense of excitement in his voice as he looked forward to indulging in his favorite treat. Such treats were a rarity for the people at the orphanage, so it was a special occasion. "Okay, but make sure to come back before dinner. Master Ryan will be angry if you're late," Ken reminded him. "Yeah, don't worry. I'll be back in no time," Zephy reassured Ken before heading off to the cafe. He felt excited as he looked forward to bringing back a special treat for everyone.

After buying the cake, Zephy exited the shop and took a left turn instead of the right, because left was shortcut to the Maen Orphanage. The left street was shady, with dark corners and inadequate streetlights. As Zephy happily made his way through the flickering lights, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his chest. It hit him so suddenly and intensely that he fainted within seconds. The cake fell to the ground, and Zephy collapsed onto the pavement. There was a sense of fear and uncertainty in the air.

A mysterious figure wearing a hoodie appeared behind fallen Zephy. With one swift movement, he grabbed Zephy and then vanished into thin air, as if they were never there. The splattered cake on the ground was the only evidence of what had just happened. The drunkards and homeless people who lived on that street watched the scene unfold with fear. One of them cursed quietly to himself, "Damn those otherworlders. If only I could be one of them, then I wouldn't have to live this miserable life on the streets." He took another gulp of alcohol, his words tinged with frustration.

Meanwhile, Ken arrived at the orphanage and was greeted by the kids. Sarah was the first to notice Zephy's absence and asked, "Where is big bro Zephy?" "He should be back in half an hour with our treats," Ken reassured her. The word "treat" filled all the kids with excitement and happiness. They eagerly went about their daily chores, preparing the dining hall for the upcoming celebration. There was a sense of anticipation and joy in the air as they awaited Zephy's return.
