Chapter 3 - First Venture

I woke up to the noise of my mom in the kitchen and my second sister getting her kid ready for school. Because of how small the apartment was,I could practically hear all movements in the house like it was right next to me. I looked at the time on my broken phone and it was just six am. After watching some cheesy funny videos for a while I could tell everyone had left the house. I came out to see I was the only one there and decided to first fetch from downstairs in the compound since we didn't have running water in our apartment and then run through all I had to do in the bathroom before settling down on the bed in my room and calling up the Newbie giftbag in the inventory.

[Congratulations to the host for acquiring the skill 'Brainstorm '. This is more effective the higher your IQ gets. It helps you focus more on problems or text and derive the essence of anything. ]

'So are you saying this skill can be applied to books and real life situations?'

[Yes host]

'And the higher my IQ the better the skill works?'

[Yes host]

Oh that's so cool. I could tell this was a gift that kept giving. Now that this was out the way I had to come up with something to make money off. As I kept thinking I saw my skills tab and it clicked that I could start off writing novels and it didn't make if it would take off as far as I tried hard enough. Not wasting time I put on some clean clothes and headed to the Public library. I stopped to get some stationery items on the way before I got there. I was lucky that it was a weekday and most people were at work or school in the morning so I got a computer to myself. After logging into the computer, I registered an author account on a popular book called Firefly Publishings and tried to decide on what to write. After sitting for a while I decided to get some comedy documentaries to get some inspiration to write a comedy novel because I felt that I could make much more progress on it than other genres. After walking around for a while, I finally chose one comedy documentary and two accounts of the shows of some comedians I found funny.

After settling down, I began glancing through the books to get a feel for the content and after jotting down some notes in the book I bought that morning, I was finally ready to start writing a book of my own. I wrote about a boy who everyone found very funny but he couldn't tell himself. Actually all his teen life, the boy was depressed and wanted to confide in the people around him about the trauma he was facing in his home but everyone thought it was a joke until one day he jumped off a bridge and his body was found a week later. Now things were no longer funny and upon digging into his life via the neighbours, it was confirmed that he was abused almost all his life and he was a sad boy growing up until he started school and made friends. His friends suddenly realised that he truly was trying to talk to them but they never listened. It caused them trauma which in time bonded them together and anytime his funeral date came these friends would gather and pay respect at his grave and then meet after. This continued until their old age then they passed it on to their grand kids.

Actually I couldn't finish the story on that day and had to keep coming back to the library for two weeks until I finally got done. It came down to two hundred and forty chapters with each chapter containing a thousand words which made the total words in the book a little over two hundred and forty thousand words. It was very impressive and I had to reference at least five more books when I was stuck. Also I was writing and updating the chapters on the account excluding Sundays and I had quite a few people following the book. I wrapped up the book today being Friday and it was noon. After the people following my book reached a thousand on Tuesday, I applied for a contract with the booksite and had yet to hear from them so I just logged off the computer and headed straight home because at this point I had nothing in my account. Dead broke at the moment, I couldn't afford to get anything outside and had to opt for off brand cereal with milk. As I was having my struggle meal, I had a spam call which pissed off and after hanging up,I had yet to even touch the spoon before I had yet another call. The first thing that came out of my mouth after picking up the call was 'piss me off and see what happens' . There was silence on the call for about three seconds before the guy on the phone said, ' I take it you are having a bad day Mr. Watson?'

After hearing the professional tone the man spoke with, I realised it wasn't what I thought and I immediately apologised. He replied, 'Not to worry Mr. Watson, we all have those days. I am calling from Firefly Publishings about your request for a contract'

That immediately got my attention and I asked about it. He let me know that the contract was approved and because of the draw of readers to my novel in its first week alone, if I accepted an exclusive contract with them, I can get a better offer. I agreed because until I sighed a contract with them, I wouldn't receive the system reward from the money counter. They emailed the contract to me and I went to the cafe in the neighbourhood to print, sign, and sent a scanned copy back to them. It was at this moment that the system finally reacted.

Ding!
