Chapter 4 - The regret of a leader

[Flashback]

The demon lord, Alphard, was seated on top of his throne, looking down at the three demons who were bowing in front of him.

One the leader of the vampire clan, the second, was the leader of the witch's council and the last was the leader of the demi humans.

Slowly raising her head, the vampire leader uttered with a sad look, "Are you sure about this my lord?".

"You doubt my decision, Elizabeth?" Alphard spoke out.

"I dare not my lord, but… if you die, the demon race will seize to have a leader." She added, "We cannot survive without your guidance and leadership. I beg of you to reconsider".

"I agree." Said the female demi human leader.

"If my lord dies, then my people will only follow, till death do us apart." Chimed in the female witch.

Alphard chuckled, "You need not worry, I am the demon lord of the burning legion, my death has not been written in the book of fate".

His words echoed throughout the castle and still, not a single soul could predict what was yet to come.

...

'Traitor. That must be what my subjects thought of me when I died, and it's no surprise, I did betray their trust and led them into a corner'.

'When all is said and done, I only wanted what's good for my people… nothing else. And now that I know my generals are still alive, I should also brace myself for the fact that they won't hesitate to kill me on the spot'.

Slowly, Ethan began to open his eyes.

'And when that time comes, I need to be ready to show them, I'm still worthy to be their leader… even if I have to set my pride aside'.

The first thing he saw were the huge trees that surrounded him. He could also feel the soft texture of leaves under back.

All he could remember at the moment was passing out after he intended to kill the remaining people who had hands in his kidnapping due to his body giving up on him.

Wasting no time, Ethan sat upright and noticed he was lying on a stack of leaves. In front of him was a campfire and two tents to his left.

He sighed, 'Of course I ended up somewhere I have no clue about …' He thought to himself.

And just then, there was a rattling in the bushes to his right. Turning his gaze there, he noticed a wolf girl, walking out of it, with a basket filled with different fruits.

Before he could even say a word, the girl froze up, shock on her face before she slowly started growling, going low like a wild animal ready to defend itself.

She has long black hair while beautiful black eyes. Dressed in a skin outfit, that has used to cover her boobs and butt; and also a necklace made of bones around her neck.

'A demi human?'.

That was the first thought that crossed Ethan's mind. Turning around fully, he began examining the girl to see if she looked any different from the demi humans of his time.

And he was right, the only slight difference was the fact she seemed less scarier than the subjects he remembered.

"Are you perhaps the one that helped me?" Ethan asked.

Grrrr!

The wolf girl growled even louder.

"No need to get all hostile. I just need to ask you a couple of questions, that is all." Said Ethan, slowly walking towards the rock near him to sit down.

Seeing this, the wolf girl calmed down a bit, although she didn't move an inch from where she was.

"So, what is your name?" He asked.

The wolf girl stared at him for a while, before she then replied, "What is name?".

"Yes… your name…" Ethan repeated in the same manner.

"Ohhhhh…." A sad look dawned on her face before she looked to the ground, "No name".

'I see… I shouldn't be all that surprised. She must have been surviving in this forest for who knows how long, it's no wonder she can't even speak well.' Ethan thought to himself while looking at the girl.

Gbam!

Ethan punched himself on the cheeks.

This action startled the wolf girl, causing her to leap back and return back to her threatening aura, growling at Ethan.

Blood dripped from his mouth while his gaze was fixed on the ground. His white hair fell on his face while he simply remained seated there, in deep thoughts.

He recognises that his decision led to the downfall of his people, and although he knew that was the only course of action that could save his people, he never expected this to be the outcome.

And since he has lived in the present before the soul merge, Ethan knew how the demons were treated and how the angel was supposedly missing. All these had already been resurfaced into his memories.

"If only she was alive…" He said out loud, the image of the angel appearing in his head, "Just maybe, I wouldn't feel the need to bear this much anger and regret".

He slowly raised his head to look at the demi human- without saying a word, he stood up from the stone and walked up to her.

This only made the wolf girl even more nervous, as the first thing she did was leap forward, using her sharp claws to scratch him on the face.

Blood splash from his cheeks and the mark of the nails digging into his flesh showed, but even then, he still remained calm.

With a neural expression, he stretched his hand towards her and uttered -

"Hit me as many times as you want. I deserve it. Your leader has failed you, and this seems to be the only fitting punishment, that being said-"

He went low, his hand patting the head of the demi human, who was first reluctant about it, but then slowly began to give way to his soft touch.

"I promise to restore back our honor, that is a promise I would never go back on, not again." A grin showed on his face as his eyes glowed red, "I'll burn them all to the ground… I command it".
