Chapter 82 - Chapter 82: Moderation

"Thank you, Julian. I'll take this profit then! Hmm, transfer 200,000 to my personal account, and please use the rest to buy stocks of both ADM and AMD for me. Oh, and if Intel's stock price looks good, you can buy some of theirs too."

After realizing his own shallowness and naivety, Carter spoke with some emotion.

Before crossing over, he was just an ordinary person, albeit a small entrepreneur, but ultimately ended in failure, right? At most, he was a bit more ambitious and adventurous than the average person, but he couldn't change the fact that he had once been a failure. And as a loser, Carter was aware of it.

Only by acknowledging his shortcomings and being open to learning could he possibly shake off failure. Moreover, even as a crosser, Carter never thought that the big shots of this era were useless.

Being able to foresee events was indeed a huge advantage, even a life cheat. But if you thought that with this advantage, you could look down on the other big shots, you were sorely mistaken!

Their familiarity with the current rules, insight into human nature, and sensitivity to business opportunities could outshine him by miles. If you thought that just because you crossed over, you were invincible...

Crossers with this kind of mentality wouldn't last three episodes in reality. Even if they suddenly became rich, it would be like a child holding a jade. Whether inside or outside the rules, once these big shots of the era noticed you, you were as good as dead!

Before truly integrating into American society, before mastering or getting used to the operating rules of American society, Carter decided to hold onto the thighs:

"No rush on this one, put the 400,000 in Kiddle's account. When you think the time is right, just go ahead and make the move."

"Okay, are you planning to hold these stocks for the long term?"

"Yes, I have high hopes for the future of these two companies. I plan to invest in them, and I don't intend to sell these stocks in the short term."

Carter nodded, his originally joyful expression becoming more serious. Some cruel realities made Carter regain his composure.

As for these two companies, AMD went without saying. It was the only one in the future that could compete with Intel in the processor field. As for ADM, although he wasn't familiar with it, first, knowing that their products could be sold worldwide in the future, and second, adding to their well-established background as an old grain merchant, they should be profitable no matter what.

Therefore, Carter felt that his decision was not hasty. Anyway, not relying on stock price differentials for profit, if he held onto stocks for dividends and distributions in the long term, he just needed to focus on the development of the companies. And the future development of a company was precisely where Carter had the most say!

Forget about small businesses, the future of big businesses was something Carter had seen with his own eyes! Compared to short selling and short-term operations, this long-term investment was where Carter truly had an advantage, where he could really strike a blow against the big shots of this era!

"Okay, got it. So, ADM, AMD, and Intel, right? I'll remember that."

As Julian spoke, he recorded the names of these three companies in his notebook in front of him. Then, as if he had remembered something, after hesitating for a moment, he spoke again:

"Oh, by the way, silver, are you really going to stop here? I haven't sold yet. I think this uptrend should continue. Even if you buy in again at the current price of $23.8 per ounce, it should still rise. Do you want to join for another month?"

"The background check results of that international metal investment company have come out. In addition to the Saudis, there's also the shadow of the Hunter family. This family is not small, they're bigwigs in the oil industry. They even had experience in speculating soybeans, just over two years ago. They once controlled over 40% of all soybean futures, doubling the price of soybeans."

"You were probably only 13 or 14 at the time, maybe you don't understand. Because of this, they were even sued by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission on charges of market manipulation, and the lawsuit caused quite a stir, but it ended inconclusively. The news of their comeback has slowly started to spread."

"In my estimation, whether the outcome of this time will be the same as their manipulation of soybean trading or not, retail investors will inevitably follow suit. The Hunter family is wealthy, experienced, and even has a successful history to back them up. Silver prices should continue to rise in the short term. I'm planning to hold for a while longer, maybe even further increase profits."

After listening to Julian's explanation, Carter hesitated a bit.

He didn't know much about this Hunter family. When it came to American oil tycoons, the impression in his mind was Rockefeller, and nothing else.

In theory, they had raised the price of silver from $2 per ounce to $23.8, whether it would rise further in the future or not, this Hunter family would already go down in history. But unfortunately, he had not paid attention to it or understood it in his previous life.

Losing the convenience of foresight, Carter became hesitant. After struggling for a long time in his heart, Carter smiled bitterly and shook his head:

"Let's forget it. I'm already quite satisfied with the $600,000 in profit. It's almost 1980, and if our new chairman tightens monetary policy by then, I'll need to keep some reserve funds. Maybe I'll even have to sell some of these newly bought stocks by then!"

"That's right, you do need to keep some funds on hand. There's already some news in New York, and this Volcker, he's still as tough as before. Monetary tightening is probably inevitable. Alright, let's leave it at that, I won't bother you anymore."

"Okay, thanks again, Julian!"

After hanging up Julian's call, Carter sorted out his emotions, quietly smoked a cigarette, and prepared his mental construction, no longer worrying about the future of silver. Then he dealt with his schoolwork. Before leaving, Carter found Goodman:

"Please arrange for me to meet Mr. Mike Jones tomorrow. The day after tomorrow night, I'll treat him to dinner."

"Okay!"

Goodman readily accepted the order, not worried at all about Jones refusing the invitation. After all, Douglas was such a big place. Originally, during the time of Old Blake, they were all in the same circle. Now that Old Blake was gone, but his face remained! Out of respect for Old Blake, Mike Jones wouldn't refuse to see Carter.

The reason for scheduling it the day after tomorrow was, of course, because tomorrow Carter had to go and talk to Trifoli's side. The more people he got on board, the greater the advantage when negotiating with Jones.

This was just like when Jiang Wen was filming "Let the Bullets Fly," how he invited both Ge You and Chow Yun-fat. First, he said to Chow Yun-fat, "Fat Ge, Old Ge wants to come! Are you coming?" Then he turned to Ge You and said, "Old Ge, Chow Yun-fat wants to come! Are you coming?"

Relying solely on his family's KFC restaurant, Carter really didn't have the confidence to convince Mike Jones to invest in building a new gas station. But if he went to Jones and said, "Hey, Jones, Trifoli, O'Neil, and I are all in, but we're missing one person. Are you coming or not? If you come, we'll have gas stations, restaurants, repair shops, and supermarkets, how awesome is that!"

This effect would be completely different!
