Chapter 179 – The First Step Towards Recognition
"There's something wrong with that book?" Saul asked with some surprise.
"No." Golza's voice remained gentle, "It's just that you can't use this book."
Saul gripped the only remaining book in his hand.
Normally at this point he would have offered to hand the second book to the tower master, but for some reason he just couldn't reach out.
The heavy sound just now was like a knock on his heart.
With the appearance of the Tower Master, the faint sounds of conversation outside the library disappeared without a trace.
"There is no need to be afraid." The Tower Lord winked at Sol, and his hand once again appeared from under his cloak, with a surprisingly small, half-burned red candle standing in his palm.
"Did you make this one yourself?"
Saul was stunned, wasn't this the red candle that was swallowed by the bronze gate?
Could it be that behind that bronze gate, it was connected to the place where the tower master was?
"Yes, I used a little bit of the candles in the storehouse, about as much as a fingernail cap, and I prepared the rest of the materials myself."
Having already been discovered, Saul couldn't lie.
Admit it honestly and fight for leniency.
Golza wasn't angry, or at least he didn't show it.
"Well, in the past, Kaz often appointed talented apprentices to guard the storehouse. However, we found that the more talented the apprentices were, the faster they consumed the materials in the storehouse. They tended to be too confident, and quite a few died in experiments that were beyond their control. That's why I suggested to Kaz that we replace him with someone mediocre to look after the storehouse. In the first few years after you took over the storehouse, the rate of material consumption really slowed down, and the apprentice who watched over the storehouse dutifully survived until now. But now that you've been replaced with you, it's only been a few days and you've dared to lay your hands on my candles~ It's not going to be possible to keep the materials in the storehouse."
Sol was momentarily confused as to whether the tower master was praising him or lecturing him.
"I'm sorry, Tower Master."
Gortha's eyes narrowed and his hand retracted, not returning the red candle to Sol.
"There is no need to apologize; by giving you the opportunity to watch over the storehouse, you are by default allowed to use the materials within. The reason I replaced mediocre apprentices to watch over the storehouse is because while the previous geniuses were keen on experimenting, they were either not very creative or the direction of their experiments was not what I expected. That would certainly be a waste."
"But you're different, I liked the first sorcery prop you made. It seems that I still underestimated your ability and talent, only by giving you a bigger platform can I see greater rewards."
"Now I'll give you a choice."
Golza walked slowly towards the depths of the library, the white mist gradually obscured his figure, but his voice was still clear as in his ears.
"If you are willing to accept this gift of knowledge, come in with me; if you fear the risk of the unknown, leave the library."
Saul was carrying a lot of trouble on his back now.
The Nightmare Butterfly that he didn't know if it could be sealed for long;
The secret of the body melting mutation;
The arm that has not yet solved the problem of electric shock and therefore remains white bone;
And the conspiracy about resurrection from Vinnie's mouth ...
Saul let out a long sigh, and then ... followed with a face of excitement!
"Debts don't itch! This is a gift of knowledge, just hearing the name makes my mental body boil! If I miss this opportunity, I'll regret my bowels in the future!"
Thor clutched the book tightly in his arms, and with goosebumps of excitement and a heart that was apprehensive to the point of beating wildly, he took a firm step into the white mist where Lord Golzatha had disappeared.
When Saul's entire body was wrapped in the white mist, he could no longer distinguish the direction, and could not even remember the direction of the road he came from.
There were no bookshelves around, no walls to be seen, and even the light was a blurry halo.
Just when Saul was stuck in place for being lost and not knowing what to do, a voice rang out.
"Follow me."
Golza's silver eyes appeared in the white mist in the distance.
Like a searchlight, they pierced through the endless night.
Sol hurriedly followed.
Vaguely, he felt as if he was climbing upwards.
Looking down at his feet, his feet were also hidden in the mist, and the only thing he could see was the book he was holding in his arms.
After walking fast for nearly five minutes, the white fog in front of him suddenly disappeared, and his vision opened up. In front of Saul's eyes, is a long curved corridor, the corridor on both sides of the row full of wooden bookshelves through the roof.
The bookshelves looked very ordinary, with some flower and leaf-like decorations carved on them.
Each layer of bookshelves was filled with a lot of books, but they were not overflowing, they looked carefully arranged and had a cozy feeling of enjoying life.
These books were placed there without any concealment at all, and seemed to be in no danger.
Golza stood at the end of the corridor, and Saul did not dare to delay, and hastened to follow at a quick pace.
"The books in the corridor are all miscellaneous books I used to collect from my travels around the world, and are generally of little use. But once in a while I'll take a look, it's quite interesting."
Golza stood in front of a large white door with golden sorcery spells painted on it, so ornate that it looked like a nobleman's gold jewelry.
"In this room is a record of nearly all the topics related to the study of souls. You will have to be careful when you enter to discern what knowledge you can read and what you cannot. I will give you a key, only you can enter, anyone else coming will be swallowed by the door ..."
Gortha turned back around and looked down at Thor, "Just like the apprentice who was devoured yesterday did."
"Yes, my lord."
Since the tower master had gotten the red candle, he must have known that Ferguson was likewise inside the bronze gate. But he came out with the red candle but didn't bring Ferguson out, so it meant that Ferguson was dead?
"Used to using your left or right hand?"
The topic changed abruptly, but Saul still answered immediately, "The habitual hand is the right hand."
"Well, then put out your left hand."
Saul raised his left hand, still a white bone hand.
"Still no clue about the transformation of Spirit Ester?" Golza casually asked, while suddenly raising his hand and breaking off one of Sol's little ... thumbs.
Sol: ?
Golza took the tip of Sol's left pinky and turned around and inserted it into the locking eye of the white gate.
After waiting about five seconds, he withdrew his hand and pressed the already deformed white bone back into Sol's left hand.
Saul stared at his hand in awe as the tip of his left pinky became elongated, like the sharp claws of a wild animal.
He also stretched out his right hand and plucked it twice, and the pinky was firmly attached to his hand, with no sign of falling off.
"In the future, remember to use the key before opening the door. By the way, get ready for your trip out at the end of May."
It was now the beginning of May, and there were still more than twenty days before the end of the month.
"Okay Tower Master, where to go?"
"I don't know, the coachman will take you there. To solve a trouble left over from two years ago. It may be a bit dangerous, so it is recommended that you bring extra life preservers."
Saul thought for a moment, "Can I bring other companions with me, Tower Master?"
Golza looked at Sol and suddenly smiled slightly, "Some things are best not shared."
"This mission is not simple, if you are afraid you can also refuse."
"I accept." Saul didn't think about it, he accepted the mission calmly.
Although the Tower Master did not explicitly say so, Saul knew that this was one of the Tower Master's tests.
If he refused, he might as well have refused all future opportunities.
Sure enough, after hearing Sol's reply, the Tower Lord's eyes curved up.
After explaining his mission and ordering Thor to act on his own, Gortha entered the brown room next door to the white room door.
Behind that door was supposed to be the Tower Master's sitting room, and Sol glanced at it, with a comfortable couch and a small table containing food.
But Golza apparently had no intention of inviting Saul to enter with him. The scene of the sitting room flickered and was quickly cut off by the closed door.
The trip home today had not gone well at all; the original train had been canceled due to icy tracks. It took half a day of wasted effort to find another channel to get home.
I'm physically and mentally exhausted and haven't done anything, so I'll make up for today's update, but I'm going to take a day off tomorrow. Sorry, sorry, sorry!
