Chapter 162 – I Like Your Eyes
Even though Mentor Rum didn't look very happy, he let Sol go.
However, shortly after Sol left, there was another knock on Rum's room door.
"Mentor." It was Nick's voice.
With permission, Nick entered.
He kept a smile on his face, very different from his usual expressionless look.
Rum looked at Nick for a few moments to understand the other man's current state, "The potion has been pretty much absorbed?"
The smile on Nick's face became wide, "Yes, Mentor, I can feel my emotions getting more stable now. No need to suppress myself all the time like before."
Who expected Rum to sigh, "The fact that you stayed at level two for a long time has always made me wonder if this path is really suitable for you."
"This is the path I chose for myself, mentor need not worry." Nick said with a sudden change in expression, unexpectedly unable to hold back the tears that began to flow.
Rum was not surprised and knew that this was a necessary ordeal for Nick's promotion.
Except for certain heavenly prides, no one's promotion was easy.
In the wizarding world, every stage of promotion was dangerous, yet promotion was necessary.
Once one chooses to follow the path of a sorcerer, one must keep moving forward, and stagnation for a long period of time can be a dangerous enough danger to be fatal.
Rum's hand tapped lightly on his belly, bouncing off a ripple.
"I hear the Tower Master saved you halfway through the day and took Thor with him?"
Nick calmed down a bit and raised a hand to dry his eyes, "Yes."
He thought for a moment and then volunteered, "Byron had said in the Valley of the Drooping Hand that Saul was a student of the Tower Lord. Though he explained later in the day that it was an impromptu fabrication to fool his enemies, I now think that perhaps Byron was telling the truth."
Mentor Rum nodded slowly.
He nodded minimally, for when he did, his chin pressed against the fat of his neck.
"Perhaps Saul's work within the tower was also arranged by the tower master himself. It's a shame ... he would have been well suited to major in light."
In this wizard's tower, no one could disobey Tower Master Golza's orders, not even the high and mighty mentors.
Rum suddenly changed the topic, "Have you been to Mill Sail Town?"
This quest Nick had already registered in the registration room to turn it in, but did not mention that it was Saul who completed the quest for him.
He had a personal interest in this mission, and only wanted to hide the role he played in it as much as possible.
However, when Rum asked about it face to face, Nick was in a state of emotional instability of the promotion, he didn't dare to hide it, and could only say in an evasive manner, "Before I arrived at Mill Sail Town, I received the news of my father's death, and entrusted someone else to complete the task for me. Now the Grinding Sound Fruits there were basically destroyed due to the barbarian invasion, and I'm afraid that I won't be able to pay tribute to the Grinding Sound Fruits in the future. I have already proposed to the registry room to withdraw my asylum from Mill Sail Town."
"There's no need for that trouble." Rum laughed softly, "Mill Sail Town has completely disappeared."
Nick looked up in shock, the expression of surprise on his face completely hidden, even with a few hints of fear.
Rum was unconcerned, "It's good that you've already begun your promotion, you don't need the Grinding Sound Fruit to help you suppress your emotions anymore."
Nick, however, acted a little strange as he pursed his lips. The muscles at the corners of his mouth were constantly trembling, and his pair of pupils were finely shrunken like needle eyes.
It was as if he had heard some incomparably terrifying news.
Rum suddenly stretched out his hand and pressed it on Nick's head.
"There's no need to be so scared, Nick. You're one of my favorite students, and even if you make the occasional little mistake, I won't eat you right away."
Nick fell to his knees with a "plop" and tried to beg for mercy, but his throat trembled and he couldn't speak.
Looking at Nick, who was so emotional, Mentor Rum's head slowly slid down from the top of his body to near his belly, staring at Nick's forehead, which was beginning to ooze beads of sweat.
"Forget about the matter of Mill Sail Town. You don't need to worry about Saul's side either." Rum's hand stroked gently over Nick's head, and as he did so, strands of brown cephalophora fell to the ground and then dissolved as if corroded.
"Yes, Mentor." Nick looked up at the hair on the floor and couldn't stop the tears from falling.
"Even though this is the Golsa Witch Tower, I am your mentor after all. If you really don't want to be a part of this, then just keep doing your research honestly."
"As a student that I value, your position is naturally predetermined. Don't always think of pleasing both sides."
"Yes, yes, Mentor ...," Nick's teeth began to chatter, his voice choked and blurred.
"Seeing as you're about to be promoted, I'll spare you once. Go to the room across the hall and wait until your emotions have stabilized."
"Yes."
Nick crawled backwards out of the room separated by a curtain.
By the time he left, all of his hair had fallen out, revealing a bald head that wasn't very flat.
Rum's head paddles upward, back to the very top of his body.
"It doesn't matter to that." As if answering someone's question, "It's the lack of movement at all that makes people suspicious. Bill's dead anyway, isn't he? Rather saves you from having to make another move."
"Heh heh heh ..."
Laughter echoed through the room, obscured by the heavy parting curtains, not a trace of it traveling out.
...
Saul, who had left Rum's room, didn't realize what price Nick had paid for his small-mindedness. His attention was completely drawn to the conversation of the passing apprentice.
"It's rumored that the second level apprentice who took the Dead Man's Flower quest last time voluntarily gave up."
Two second level female apprentices stood between the twelfth and thirteenth floor ramps exchanging words.
Saul, who was pushing the cart, slowed down at once.
"Is this a difficult task?"
"I don't think it's hard to solve the problem, what's hard is to find the person who created the problem. The last time Sari took the mission, he squatted for a few days without finding anything unusual, only to have another servant die in the early hours of yesterday morning."
The other female apprentice laughed disdainfully as she rolled her eyes, her full head of braids raising the tips of her hair like a cobra.
"Lucy, why don't we take this quest? Since someone has already abandoned the quest, the reward credits for this quest will surely be raised again."
The apprentice called Lucy sniffed with intent, "Good, then let's go now, don't let anyone beat us to it!"
The two of them agreed at once, and hand in hand, they quickly disappeared at the turn of the ramp.
Saul, who had already been moving in small steps for a long time, only then took a step.
"Sure enough, my second dream is happening in reality as well."
As he passed the twelfth floor, Saul glanced inward.
The dead flowers that once stood in the corridor had long since been cleared.
"Let's hope they can solve whoever's behind this, I'm still trying to get a good night's sleep."
There were no public classes for second level apprentices, but of course, if they really wanted to listen to them, they could go and dabble in the classes of first level apprentices.
After entering the second level, there would be a more noticeable gap in everyone's field of knowledge and tier. Forcing them to gather together for lessons would instead drag down everyone's progress.
Therefore, after advancing to the second level, an individual's learning would be based on self-study, and they could receive guidance from their mentor every few days.
Lest the apprentices go further and further down the wrong path and accidentally blow themselves up.
Level 1 apprentices were required to test the progress of their studies (or work, as it was called) once a month, which became every six months at level 2.
Only Saul had just been promoted to second level, and had a year of preparation before his first test.
For a long time, he didn't have to worry about his testing.
Thus, after getting used to the work of the second storehouse, Saul began his new round of research.
There were many materials in the second storeroom, and a small portion of them were not marked with any serial numbers. It was stated in the rulebook that all of these materials could be used by Saul, as long as they were not squandered and wasted at will.
The contents of the storeroom could only be used by himself, and could not be taken out of the storeroom and given to other apprentices.
So despite the tediousness of the job and the lack of large amounts of time to learn and study, it was still a source of fascination for many.
Although there was no big man in charge of guarding outside the corpse room here, the three metal doors were not just for show.
There was some sort of connection between them and the summoning pen, which could automatically determine which materials were within the scope of the quest's requirements and which were not.
Once a material that was out of range was on the body, there was no way to push open the metal doors.
At the very least, Saul didn't.
After two days of organizing the materials in the storehouse, Saul was again tasked by Mentor Katz.
This time, there were dozens of quest materials, so it was fortunate that Saul was already halfway through his retrieval sheet, or else it would be difficult to complete the quest on time.
On his way to cart away from the depot, Saul met someone halfway.
That person was wearing a long, heavy cloak like the tower master, with a mask on his face, and came out of the corridor on the left.
"He should be the person in charge of the first treasury." Saul stopped where he was, thinking about whether or not to strike up a greeting.
However, the other party walked straight past Sol without stopping for half a second.
There was even no intention of exchanging pleasantries.
Saul smiled to himself.
Being around the outside world and having a few friends around him had made him almost forget that the Wizard's Tower was actually a cold place.
However, before Saul's smile could dissipate, the person in front of him suddenly stopped again.
Immediately alert in his heart, Saul also stopped, the two of them maintaining a distance of two meters apart.
The other person did not turn around, but instead lowered his head deeply.
As he lowered his head, a crack unexpectedly appeared at the hat on the back of his head.
Under the crack, an ugly woman's face was revealed.
It was like the most eerie witch in anime.
"I like your eyes, can I have them?" The woman asked in a hoarse voice.
"Sorry," Saul's face went cold, "I have a use for it."
