Chapter 157: The Icy Truth
Saul was almost about to throw a strike necrotic.
Only after remembering that the dark figure hadn't shown any obvious malice last night did he put away the idea of going up to fight.
"Who are you? Why have you been following me?"
That black shadow gradually solidified and became clear, with a slender figure that seemed to be wearing a skirt. However, it still couldn't see its facial features, only a pair of eyes, which were getting redder and redder.
"Why?" The black shadow jumped to the table in two steps and sat down, the books on the table went through her body, but he was able to sit steadily on the tabletop, "If Golza hadn't asked me to keep an eye on you, do you think I'd be willing to follow you?"
"The Tower Master? You ..." Sol suddenly recalled two images.
One was the equinoctial-sized black shadow that he had seen in the Soul Fluctuation Sensory Instrument at the entrance of the Drooping Hand Valley, where he had stood in the midst of a group of human-headed monsters.
At first he thought he was seeing an evil spirit, but Nick reminded him that the Perceptron was not on.
Secondly, on the sailboat, while resting on the deck, he again saw the same black shadow in his perceptron. Rejecting his suspicion that the black shadow was Morton the Evil Spirit.
"You're the spirit that appeared in the Perceptron? You've been following me?"
"Yes," the black shadow wiggled its feet, "I've been following you ever since you left the Wizard's Tower. That includes you being swindled by that Nick into Mill Sail Town, that includes you bullying a little girl and gouging out her eyes, and that includes you teasing that no-good apprentice in that tower."
Saul's mind tightened as he thought back to whether he had said anything about the diary when he was alone.
But it was a good thing that Saul relied on telepathy to communicate with the diary, and outsiders couldn't detect the diary's presence except for the fact that they would find his demeanor a bit strange.
"Tower Master, are you being asked to protect me?"
"Ha!" The dark shadow gave a short laugh, seemingly mocking Saul's whimsy, but opened his mouth as a disguised acknowledgement, "You can interpret it that way. After all, he also said to try not to let you die."
"So, both times you appeared in the Perceptron, it was to save me?" Saul asked, but he didn't even wait for the black shadow to answer and immediately said, "I can return to the Sorcerer's Tower, and I really have to thank you for your help."
Regardless of whether what the black shadow said was true or not, thanking him first would never be less than a piece of meat.
But Saul couldn't let the Black Shadow follow him all the time, or else many of his experimental researches wouldn't be able to go on.
"Although I didn't help in the Drooping Hand Valley ... then you should also thank me! Why else do you think Golza showed up?" The black shadow's voice was a bit muffled at first, then it became justified.
At the same time, she actually saw through Sol's intentions, "Are you trying to drive me away? Hmph, you think I want to stay next to a boring guy like you? Look at the contents of those you're researching, they're simply too low-grade to be true!"
The dark shadow's voice raised slightly, "It's just that Golza asked me to stay for a while to answer your questions about Morton."
Thor snapped his head up and looked into the other man's eyes overflowing with bright red, and hastily rummaged through his body to pull out the puppet doll the tower master had given him.
The doll's eyes were even more bright red at this point.
"You? You? You are Mrs. Yura?"
Is that what Golza meant when he said that Lady Yura was special?
This bizarre form was indeed not quite like a normal spirit. The personality is also like a little girl.
Who knew that the black shadow's voice immediately turned cold as soon as she heard Yura's name. Even though she couldn't see her face, she could feel her gloominess.
"I'm no Yuura!" She spoke harshly, "I'm nothing more than a replica created by Golza to revive his wife."
Sol sucked in a breath, "Manufactured souls?"
"Forget it, what are you talking to a second level apprentice. You can call me Vinnie, anyway, not even half a character related to Yura!" The spirit who called herself Vinnie shook her finger at Sol.
This black shadow was lively one moment, gloomy the next, and her personality was rather as temperamental as that of a malevolent spirit.
"Well, let's not talk about that." Vinnie clasped her hands to her chest – though she couldn't see them if she did – "What do you want to know about Morton?"
"Does being possessed by an evil spirit have a lasting effect on my body spirit?"
According to Byron, not only did Saul's hands dissolve and fall off after defeating Morton, but even his body nearly waxed and melted all over.
Although later on, somehow, Saul returned to normal, this incident still worried Saul.
"There are, most people who are possessed by evil spirits will be left with very serious effects." Speaking of this matter, Vinnie cheered up again and seemed to be interested in the topic.
"You get possessed by a full-fledged sorcerer-level evil spirit, it's reasonable to assume that even if you're saved, you'll be sick for a few years or just go crazy. That level of contamination is no joke."
Vinnie jumped down from the table and walked around Saul with her hands behind her back. "But the spirit ester on you pretty much blocked most of the dangerous soul energy for you, and the parts you couldn't absorb strangely dissipated after the evil spirit died."
She walked behind Sol, her black silhouetted arms pressing behind Sol's head.
Icy cold gradually froze the skin and muscles along Saul's pores, but a second glance back revealed that it was just an illusion, and his skin was still intact.
"Your mental power is extremely strong, plus that spell that affected Morton's consciousness. I'm guessing that's why you survived."
"But strange is also strange here. Although the evil spirit's consciousness was crushed by you, he should have had a chance to escape. But surprisingly, it disappeared cleanly, with no semblance of residue."
Vinnie's black shadow walked in front of Sol again, and her black silhouette arm moved from behind her head to Sol's forehead.
Saul looked up at Vinnie, his eyes calm, not flinching.
"It's like what was originally a difficult bone has automatically turned into rice porridge. Not only did it not leave behind any residual thoughts to affect your cognition, it also took the initiative to help you boost your spiritual power a little. Is this an abnormality of Morton's, or are you special?"
Clean and dry?
Saul closed his eyes, then it must be the diary's work!
The diary wasn't interested in soul energy or soul fragments, except for the fact that it liked to keep dead consciousnesses in a small dark room.
If it wasn't for the existence of the diary, if Saul had been possessed by such a powerful evil spirit, even if he could have survived, he would still be in a state of insanity right now, and he might even be left with lifelong repercussions.
Vinnie doesn't know about the existence of the diary, after all, it's not like she participated in Saul's war in the brain.
Puzzled, she withdrew her fingers thumb and forefinger gently rubbing them in a circle.
"Is this your gift? No wonder Gortha thinks so highly of you. A soul as clean and pure as yours is what the living should have."
Sol also had a guess about the tower master's experiment.
Was it possible that the body of consciousness of Lady Yura after death had been contaminated. Therefore to resurrect Lady Yura, it wasn't as simple as finding her a physical body.
Removing the contamination on the soul must be difficult and dangerous.
Both to ensure the integrity of the soul and to get rid of the contamination, Golza had already studied it for a long, long time, and struggled to find a way to do so, which was why he had started cultivating Saul, who had a talent for souls, from a young age?
But given that the Tower Master's cultivation of Sol was more of a state of release, it was more than likely that even the Tower Master wasn't sure just how much Sol's soul talent could help.
So apart from giving some guidance on the general direction, he would hardly sway any of Saul's decisions.
"Alas-" Sol sighed and lowered his eyes, "Lord Golza Tower is truly a good man. He has guided me in my studies and allowed you to guard me. To think that he is trying to resurrect his lady ... this wizarding world isn't as cruel and cold as I thought it would be."
Who would have thought that after hearing Sol's words, Vinnie would actually start laughing maniacally.
She laughed so exaggeratedly that she even covered her stomach and bent over.
The sound of laughter echoed in the second storehouse, gradually shrill, causing Saul's hair to creep out and his brain to tingle.
"Mrs. Vinnie?" Saul painfully covered his ears with his hands.
The laughter had begun to take on a lethal quality, and Saul's hand was not giving out, it was all seams.
It didn't take long for a hot stream to run down his ear.
"Mrs. Vinnie!" Saul had no choice but to call out to the other man.
Vinnie finally stopped.
She turned around, her bright red eyes darkening, as if infused with a watery glow.
"You are too naive! The world of witches has only cold laws and the even colder supremacy of profit! All emotions are nothing more than mutual investment and influence of power."
Sol was silent as he lowered his hand and looked at Vinnie without speaking.
Seeing Saul's look, Vinnie knew he didn't believe it.
"Sure enough, you're still a child!" She let out a light laugh, "Then I'll tell you another truth."
Vinnie didn't have a mouth, but this time the sound she made was slow and gentle, as if she was imitating Gortha's tone.
"Golza's wife, Yura, was killed by his own hand! And Golza's so-called resurrection was nothing more than a way out for himself."
