Chapter 144: How Did They All Transform
Just as Saul was about to rush up and join the battle, Morton, who was surrounded and impatient, suddenly roared.
"You bastards, don't mess up at this time!"
His arms suddenly swelled and morphed, sprouting fur and sharp claws like a wild beast.
As soon as he grabbed Herman, he lifted him up high and slammed him hard on the ground.
There was a loud bang, and the round platform shook along with it, as Herman struck the stone with his brain, and his head was knocked directly into his chest cavity!
This powerful hammer blow immediately shook everyone, including Saul.
Even the other souls' attacks on Morton stalled.
However, Morton, who had shocked all the souls, looked down at Herman, who had been smashed by himself to an incomparable degree, and a wisp of madness actually surfaced in his eyes.
Both pupils plummeted like the tips of needles, trembling at an extremely high frequency, the corners of his mouth slowly rose from an angry downward flare, and his purple tongue stretched out as he slowly licked each of his razor-sharp teeth.
Saul could see that the excitement of killing had surprisingly made the evil spirit follow suit and lose control, forgetting all about absorbing the surrounding debris as quickly as possible.
The Evil Spirit suddenly threw back its head and whistled, its mouth opened, generating a huge gravitational force, and fiercely absorbed the surrounding soul fragments without distinguishing between the enemy and itself.
Morton no longer wanted to distinguish those soul fragments in the air, he only wanted to complete the fusion quickly, and then tear apart all these disturbing remnants within his own consciousness!
If he was allowed to absorb all the soul fragments ...
Suddenly, a figure suddenly flew forward, and Saul jumped high over the heavily dulled souls and punched Morton in the jaw!
Morton, who was trying to absorb the fragments with his mouth wide open, had his mouth closed by the blow, and leaned back on his upper body, taking two steps straight back, one foot even exiting the center circle.
Saul drops down and lands right in the center ring.
In this instant, he regained control of his body.
Saul understood in a trance that within this remodeled space of consciousness, entering this circle was equivalent to becoming the body's main consciousness.
When he snapped his eyes open, he saw Byron, who was standing across from him and looking at him vigilantly.
Byron looked at Saul, whose expression was suddenly calm, and just as he was about to speak, he saw Saul quickly raise his index finger and block it in front of his mouth.
Now, even Nick, who was far away, realized who was facing them now.
The faces of the two longtime facepalmers both showed varying degrees of joy.
Unfortunately, before Saul could show anything more to Byron, he was sent flying out of the center ring by a punch from a returning Morton.
Saul's small frame spun straight through the air several times before finally landing hard on the ground.
He endured the pain and immediately got up to defend himself against the next attack.
Only then did he realize that because of the attack he had just made, the silence was broken and the other souls acted once again.
This was what gave Saul the chance to take a breather.
He felt his head to make sure that no piece of it was dented, and then he sighed in relief.
And outside the space of consciousness, Byron, who had discovered that Saul was indeed alive, suddenly turned his head and gestured at Nick.
Seeing this, Nick glanced at Saul, who was standing in the phalanx, his expression once again grim, and turned around to adjust the parameters of the manipulator.
...
Saul rushed back, nearly stepping on Herman, who was sprawled on the ground, halfway across the room.
The guy's head was still in his chest cavity, but his hands had begun to wave back and forth, and he looked like he could still fight.
Saul hurriedly crouched down, reached in along his neck, gripped Herman's hair, and yanked his head out with one hand!
"Ugh!!!" Herman let out an extremely agonizing scream, and his gaze at Saul became unkind.
Saul did his old trick and hid behind Herman, holding his head so he could sit up and face Morton, "That's your enemy!"
Herman's eyes reddened and he roared again, swinging his fists and charging.
But the guy was quickly knocked out again.
Saul frowned, "Only Bill, Herman, and the other three third level apprentices in this group of guys have some fighting ability, the others can't even tickle Morton."
Suddenly, Saul saw Morton grab Bill and lift him into mid-air as well.
This time, Morton did not slam Bill to the ground.
He plunged his hands hard into the small of Bill's back, and with a forceful rip, he directly tore Bill in half.
However, just when Saul thought that Bill would be the first victim, Bill's entire body suddenly changed to purple, and then softened into a ball of purple foam that slid off of Morton's fingertips. After falling to the ground, the two masses of purple foam rolled together and changed back into the purple Bill.
"What is this?" Saul looked at Bill, who had turned into a purple man, and then to Morton, whose arms were like beasts, "Why can their forms turn into this? Can I?"
Before Saul could figure it out, he suddenly saw Herman, who was running past, seemingly inspired by Bill as well, surprisingly covering his entire body with a layer of silver metal as he ran.
And the changed forms of Bill and Herman were obviously much stronger than the original.
Herman punched over, even Morton could no longer carry it hard.
"Both Bill and Herman's forms are the same as their true bodies' best sorcery, could it be sorcery constructed within the spirit's body?"
But Saul quickly dismissed this speculation, because the other third level apprentices hadn't changed a bit.
"What could affect their conscious forms? Sorcery? Meditation? Or a locator?"
Before Saul could figure it out, the battle ahead took another sudden turn.
A blizzard suddenly descended from the sky, and countless soul fragments poured down. These fragments changed their original characteristics of being eager to welcome and rejected, and took the initiative to drill into Morton's body.
As the fragments merged in, Morton's eyes gradually clouded over, and the mutations in his body were exaggerated, as his entire body began to transform into a full-bodied beast.
At the same time the movements of the Evil Spirit's limbs began to become stiff.
Seeing the Evil Spirit's movements begin to slow down, the few remaining intact souls around them tore into them.
They desperately tore into Morton's body, surprisingly actually allowing them to bite off a small fragment.
Yet even as the missing pieces began to appear on his body, Morton didn't show any signs of pain.
With the addition of soul fragments, such damage was quickly patched up.
Bill, who was closest to Morton, suddenly pounced on his neck from behind, reached out to hold Morton, and took a bite out of Morton's skull.
Seeing Bill's teeth close to the back of Morton's head, a tail instantly grew behind Morton, and the sharp tail transformed into a shadow, piercing through Bill's chest and drilling out of his mouth.
But Bill also turned to foam in an instant.
But before Bill could flow away from Morton's tail again, Morton's head unexpectedly also underwent a huge change, a mouth protruded in front like a giant crocodile, twisted his head and opened his mouth, even with his own tail and the purple foam hanging on it, biting into his mouth.
Only a small amount of purple foam "snapped" fell to the ground, not moving.
Not waiting for the others to react, Morton turned his head back and took another bite of a third level apprentice's soul.
In the other party's cry of surprise, the head and even the forehead were swallowed by Morton.
Seeing that the souls of the crowd were about to be unable to withstand the crocodile-transformed Morton, Saul did not have time to ponder over the reason for the transformation.
He rushed up and tucked a foot onto the root of Morton's tail before Morton tore into another spirit.
Morton wobbled a bit, losing the prey in front of him.
He turned back to see who had sneaked up on him, but all he saw was a shadowy figure quickly ducking behind Herman.
Herman's consciousness had long since become blurred from the constant fighting, with nothing but rage and madness in his eyes, knowing only to kill the enemy in front of him.
He took advantage of the Evil Spirit Devouring's distraction, and his metal-covered hands acted like two blunt swords, smashing Morton's chest out of shape, and nearly forcing him out of the center circle.
However, at that moment, Herman suddenly saw Morton swaying for a moment before jerking back and turning back quickly, his reddened eyes staring behind him.
He didn't realize what was happening, but only saw Morton twisting his long mouth and flinging his head to bite at himself.
Herman instinctively tried to duck, but the next second someone kicked him hard in the back.
Unsteady on his feet from the sneak attack, Herman flung himself forward.
Morton's long mouth grazed Herman's shoulder, creating a new crack. As Herman moved closer, the two collided directly into each other.
Saul, who was hiding behind, immediately jumped up, stepped on Herman's back, and punched Morton hard in one of his eyes.
With one blow, Morton's eye was instantly scrapped, while Saul quickly rolled over and ducked back behind Herman, using this large hunk of metal, blocking Morton's counterattack.
