Chereads / Disease System: Infecting Everything / Chapter 15 - First Rewards

Chapter 15 - First Rewards

Turns out that I was the one who would regret allowing them to enter my house.

The sheer chaos that spread from the three--namely Kari and Ariel--was corrupting.

Whenever they were over, I had to be working inside of the living room, but that wasn't the big issue.

I can handle a little relocation every now and then, but it was what they did while I worked.

If I didn't seem to be paying attention to them for the slightest second, I would be shaken out of my work because someone was bored.

I kept on retorting against their nagging saying things like, 'If you're bored, go home or find somewhere else to be'.

Or I would bring up their flaws, 'I am working on something that makes me money, shouldn't you have a job to do at this age?'

It wasn't always the most effective thing, but it seemed to confuse them enough to leave me alone.

I don't know if they didn't know what a job is, or if they just found it so stupid that their brains short-circuited.

It made no sense that they wouldn't know what a job is because Juliana casually handed me 1,000,000 Yoli, but it made even less sense if they knew what job was, yet they couldn't understand the importance of me working.

It made no sense how mentioning working would be the most effective strategy to get bored girls off my back.

All I know is it bought me a minute to finish up whatever project I was doing, so I could get some Yoli.

The million that Juliana gave me wouldn't be enough to last for a whole year in most of the places, and I didn't really care where I went.

That random aspect was the reason I needed to earn more money.

I could move somewhere across the globe, but in the end I still needed money to live there.

1,000,000 Yoli was enough to buy a good house, but it wouldn't last that long when it came to materials that I needed.

I had already stored up my own million Yoli, and I had gotten the unexpected gift from Juliana, so I would be set for at least a month.

While I worked over a multitude of coding projects for various companies, the girls would just lounge around the common area.

If they got really bored, they would start to nag me, but they never left without an urgent reason to leave.

It would last for about twenty-hours a day, and it nearly drove me insane.

The only reason I hadn't was because of the earlier half of the week where I was completely paranoid.

One thing about when I was more paranoid is that it pushed my mental tolerance.

Thanks to the constant unease, when I was thrown into these two days of torture, they didn't annoy me as much as I thought.

It certainly was annoying at times, but it was far less than when I was entering High School.

I was edgier than I was now, and looking back on it, I was a complete loser.

I was alone, didn't want to do anything than kill Acno, and avenge my Father.

(What the hell are you?)

Oh, you're here, I noted the system and continued reminiscing.

I walked around school by myself and only talked to the staff because they were the only ones that would help me in my quest.

I ferociously conquered my studies, and I only had a break for one hour once a week.

(Yeah, what the heck are you now)

(What is separating you from then to the you now)

Oh, now I just don't care about half of it, I told the impatient system, if you waited long enough I would've just told you.

(So you have only gotten depressed)

(You're completely different from the you before)

I smiled at the system, Glad to see you understand that.

(No I don't, you confuse me on way too many levels)

(I was SARCASTIC when I said that)

(You're just a narcissist now)

(Before you were a complete loser, but now you're somehow worse)

Wow, I guess I am just better than all the other kids, I thought, now what are you actually here for?

(I won't forget this, so be prepared for me to revisit this, but for now I will get to business)

(The bacteria are returning)

OH YEAH, I internally screamed, I can finally get stronger.

I grew an evil grin, If this is as powerful as you've made this out to be, I'll be able to take on all three of those girls at once.

(You won't be able to take on all three, but you could probably man handle at least one of them)

Are you doubting me? I asked the pessimistic system.

(No I am not)

You're lame, I did all of that research about what systems are, and you are somehow none of them, I groaned.

I had done some system research, and beyond the definition--which it kind of fit--it was something completely unexpected.

Systems that could turn people into deities roamed the internet, and ruled over their fans' minds.

They ranged from just a screen, to a full blown goddess, but they were mostly 70% Machine, and 30% human.

If anybody but the creator of their stories wrote their dialogue, I would be surprised enough to give them a Yoli, but I would never know.

Somehow, this system that monitored the bacteria on my body, was more personality than machine.

It would show me my stats, but it wouldn't show me anything else under the premise that I'm 'too weak'.

I would accept it if this stupid system left it at that, but he would always add on these st-

(Do you want to hear what you gained from the three girls?)

Yes please, I thought with a childish grin on my face.

(Well you'll love it)

(You got a plus two to every stat)

Huh? How big of a change is that? I was confused, wouldn't that mean that only Od doubles while the others just go up by like 15%?

How is that supposed to help me wipe the floor with those three, I demanded to know.

(That is just from Kari you nitwit)

(From Ariel you only got an increase of 8 in Od)

(There was more, but it was contributed towards Juliana's to make it a very..impactful reward)

Doesn't that mean that my Od has gone up by 600%? I jumped out of my seat, and did a quick lap around the house, I won't have any issue going forward with any stat!

(Not really, your Od stat is currently useless because you haven't been able to use it once)

(That is currently the biggest waste, but the reason I even let you gain the Od was because it will be useful to have when you start learning your magic)

(You should be more happy with what you got with Juliana)

Are you seriously teasing me? I confronted the annoying system.

(No, I am just trying to hold back the fact you have been given a skill book, and a rat)

"You are so annoying at times", I muttered under my breath.

(You're welcome, I'll just drop these off her and disappear)

A book and a tarp covering a cube appeared on my desk without any sound, nor any destruction.

(I'll be back tomorrow--when the rest comes in)

Before you leave just show me my stats and talent

Why the hell is my name there, and why is the date there too, I tried complaining to the system.

It didn't respond, but that didn't slow me down.

I quickly got to doing a few light body weight exercises like handstand push-ups to get a feel for my new stats.

Needless to say, I felt great.

The new stats, were freeing, and I could do a lot more with my body than I could before.

Sadly, the rush of getting new stats ran out very quickly, and I was soon staring at the cubic tarp.

The system said it's a rat, but what type of rat? A Bandicota rat? A Kangaroo Rat?, I pondered while staring at the still tarp.

I still hadn't unboxed the rat for a multitude of reasons one being that I didn't even know what I would even do with it, and a second being that it was outlawed to have one by law without signing a whole year's worth of paper work.

It was probably going to be killed under the assumption that it is an Ihron, and that I am an Acno supporter which ends in death for those proven guilty.

Then I remembered the book that the system had sent me.

I had read in my research that when the system would give out skills, it would just be learned by my body, and I would need a book, but there were always exceptions.

There was a relatively famous research paper that was based around the subjects ability to gain skills through touching books, and absorbing them, learning the skill in the process.

I quickly grabbed the book, and waited for the book to react to my touch.

I expected it to ask if I'd like to absorb it, or if I'd like to learn a skill, but it never came.

I stood there, with my hand on a book, and waited for something mystical to happen.

After standing there embarrassingly for a good five-minutes, I just gave up, and opened up to read it like a normal book.

The cover was a musty green, and the pages were old and torn.

There was no title on the hardcover, so I had no choice but to open the fragile book.

I opened the book careful to not rip anything, and I was greeted by a sticky note.

The sticky note didn't have anything on it, so I just ignored it, and turned to the title page.

"How To Take Care of Your Rat Legion"
