Chapter 7 - Reactions

(Rhaenyra POV)

Mother was alright. She was alive, and I finally had a sibling. But it's not what Father hoped for. It is not an Aegon but a Visenya. The irony of all this is funny. The day that Mother goes into labour is the day that my great great great grand aunt, the original Visenya Targaryen and her mysterious husband come to court and save Mother.

After the Tourney was over, I ran to Father and asked about Mother's health. He told me what was going on and that Visenya was here. Someone we all thought had long died was, in fact, alive and was even helping Mother during her labour. I was scared. To think that my Father would have killed Mother just for his dream of having a son ... I am angry with him. Thank the seven that this mysterious Kisuke Urahara came to save her.

I don't know what I would have done if Mother died. I need her. The court is terrible, and I only have Alicent as a friend. We take care of each other, at least. Men only approach to court us because they are either interested in our bodies, power or both.

.

I am walking towards my mother's room with Alicent. When we reach the door, a big man stands in front of it, holding a giant sword in his hands. I can't see his face because it is covered by a hood. I don't feel so good when I see him. I wonder where the guards are.

"Who is he?" Alicent whispers to me. I can see she seems intimidated, and I am, as well. None of the knights I have met scare me like this.

"I don't know. He seems-"

"Princess." I hear someone say my name and turn around. There, I see Ser Ryam Redwyne, the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, approach with two others. He seems to be tense for some reason.

"Ser Ryam, what brings you here?" I ask him.

"I came for these men here. We don't know anything about them, but they are barring entry to the Queen's chambers. It is time to find out what has happened and get through these two."

Ryam was considered the greatest knight of his day, accomplished at sword and lance. There are songs about Ryam praising his chivalry. But he is rather old right now, and I am uncertain whether he can gain access to Mother's chambers by force.

"I would rather you didn't start a fight here in front of my mother's chambers. She or my sister may get disturbed otherwise, and to have blood flow in these halls is not something I wish to see, Ser."

"I understand, Princess. But aren't you curious as well to find out what happened with your mother? As Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, it is my duty to protect His Grace and Her Grace. So there is nothing that will stop me from making sure she is alive and well," Ser Ryam tells me.

"Ser Ryam, pardon me. But has my Father signed off on this plan?" Alicent asks from beside me. I can tell she is nervous about the situation, but she hides it well.

"Indeed he has, Lady Hightower. Lord Hand has granted us permission to use any means necessary to gain access to the room and make sure the Queen is well."

"But-"

"Pardon me, Princess. We will start now."

I watch with Alicent as Ser Ryam and the other two Kingsguards approach the single guard standing in front of the door. He is a large man and hasn't moved a single step from his position. His armour is dark, unlike any I have ever seen before, and his sword is truly long and heavy. How he can fight with this is beyond me. When I look at him, I can feel some form of presence pressuring me. He seems dangerous.

"Greetings. My name is Ser Ryman Redwyne, Lord Commander of the Kingsguard. I have been commanded to gain entry to the Queen's chambers and check on her wellbeing. Will you move aside, please?"

"None shall pass."

"Pardon?"

"None shall pass!"

"I have no quarrel with you, Ser. But we will see the Queen."

"Then you shall die."

"We are the Kingsguard of His Grace, Viserys I Targaryen. Lord Hand, Otto Hightower, has ordered us to come here. If you don't move, there will be a fight. I wish you no harm. Please move aside, Ser."

"I move ... for no man."

"So be it."

The three Kingsguards unsheathe their swords. Ser Ryman is the first to attack. He swings his sword in a wide arc.

*CLANG*

But the unknown knight blocks the attack with his own sword. The two get into a fight, and despite being rather old, I can tell that Ser Ryman is a very skilled fighter. The sounds of their blades clashing are heard throughout the halls. It frightens me to see what this one knight is capable of. He doesn't seem to swing his greatsword like the others, as it is too long for the rather narrow corridor. But he uses all parts of it, especially his armoured hands. He punches the Kingsguards and just as it seems that he would win ...

*Shing*

An arm falls to the ground, and blood splashes around. My eyes widen at the brutality, and I almost hurl. Thankfully, I managed to keep it in. It seems Ser Ryman managed to cut off one of the black knight's arms. This will undoubtedly mean victory.

"Now, stand aside, worthy adversary."

"'Tis but a scratch."

"A ... scratch? Your arm's off."

"No, it isn't."

"Well, what's that then?" Ser Ryman says, pointing at the severed arm on the ground.

"... I've had worse."

"W-worse? You liar."

"Come on, you pansy."

The black knight attacks Ser Ryman again using his singular arm, swinging his sword as if he hadn't just lost his arm. I am standing in shock and disbelief at what I am seeing. What does it take for a man to continue fighting in such a state?

*Clang*

*Shing*

*Woooosh*

And then it happens. I didn't see it again. But Ser Ryman just cut off the other arm of the black knight, now disarming him entirely. No one will believe me if I tell them this. Ser Ryman is turns around and unsheaths his swo-

*Bong*

The armoured boot hits Ser Ryman's side and pushes him to the ground. It's ... the black knight. He's still on his feet!!

"What is he?!" I hear Alicent shout in fear. An unarmed man ... literally, is kicking and pushing Ser Ryman, challenging him to continue fighting.

"Come on then."

"What?"

"Have at you."

"You are indeed brave, Ser. And while I can't say how you are still on your feet, victory is mine. Stop this madness and cease all hostilities."

"Ohh, had enough, eh?"

"Look, you stupid bastard, you've got no arms left. How could you possibly hope to fight?"

"Yes, I have!"

"Look!"

"It's just a flesh wound," the black knight says, kicking Ser Ryman with his boots.

"Stop that!"

"Chicken. Chickeeen!!"

Ser Ryman has had enough. He unsheaths his sword again and cuts off the black knight's leg, which he just used to kick him again.

*Swing*

"Right. I'll do you for that."

"You'll what?"

"Come on. I'm invincible!!!"

...

"Ahh, Alicent?"

"Yes?"

"What ... what's going on?"

"I ... don't know. It seems like the black knight ... can't die or doesn't feel pain."

The black knight hops on one leg. On ONE LEG and tries to hit Ser Ryman with his helmet. I can tell that Ser Ryman has never been in such a situation either, as he has stopped moving entirely.

"The Black Knight always triumphs! Have at you!"

This pulls Ser Ryman from his stupor, and he swings his sword again, slicing off the knight's last remaining leg. The black knight falls to the ground, his body upright, looking down at himself as if he wasn't aware of what just happened.

"Alright. We'll call it a draw."

"..."

"..."

"... A ... draw?"

"What are you?"

...

The door to my mother's chambers opens, and a young woman exits. She has silver hair and looks gorgeous—I haven't ever seen a woman look like that. She looks around the hall and sees what is going on, but instead of looking surprised, angry, scared, or confused, she just smiles.

"Hahahahahaha ... did you enjoy the fight? Hahaha, Melissa, check this out."

After a second, another woman comes outside and looks at the chaos. Then, like the first woman, she starts laughing as well.

"My name is Ser Ryman Redwyne, Lord Commander of the Kingsguard. Who are you two? Where is the Queen?"

"Haha ... oh, that's perfect. I didn't know he still did that, and to think that he would place him as a guard in King's Landing to boot. He truly doesn't see you as dangerous."

"I repeat, who are you two? Identify yourselves, or I will see you as a threat and remove you." Ser Ryman has lost his calm. I could hear the anger in his voice.

"My name is Melissa, and this is my sister, Alexandra. We are the daughters of Kisuke and Visenya Urahara. You know, the two who saved your Queen and embarrassed the Maesters? We are here to watch Aemma Arryn and ensure nothing happens to her while she recuperates. So you can forget entering at the current time."

"I am Lord Commander of the Kingsguard; I am more than capabl-"

"And if you were the King himself. No one enters here, as long as the Queen is recuperating. And that's final."

"Then you leave me no other choice."

"Heh, I'd like to see you try, old man."

"STOP!"

Everyone looks to me. I have seen enough.

"That's enough. I am not certain what happened here today, but I can safely say that I don't want any more blood to flow in these halls. Ser Ryman, I understand the wish of Lord Hightower, but I am the Princess, and this is my mother in that room. So I will be the one to go in. Would that be acceptable to you two?" I ask and look at the two women.

The two women look at me for a while and then nod their heads.

"Yes. That's fine. She has asked for you anyway. We were going to find you when we heard the noise out here. Come."

"Princess, are you sure?" Ser Ryman asks me, and I nod my head.

"I'm sure, Ser. If my mother has asked for me, then I am certain these two wouldn't harm me. Remember, it was the Urahara's who saved my mother, and we owe them gratitude and some trust at least."

"As you command. But I shall wait here for you, and if I hear something suspicious, I will enter the room."

"That's reassuring."

I walk into the room and smell a fragrance I have never smelt before. It calms me down in a way and makes my heart slow down. My gaze wanders over and there I see my mother, holding a small babe in her arms ... my sister.

"Hello, Rhaenyra. Would you like to meet someone?" I hear my mother ask.

"Mother."

(3rd Person POV)

In another room that was freed for the Urahara family while they are in King's Landing, Kisuke and Visenya are relaxing. Or at least Kisuke is. Visenya is standing in front of the window and seems lost in thought.

"Would you like to share?" Kisuke's calm voice broke the silence.

"My thoughts?"

"Yes."

"Why would you ask that?"

"I can feel when you are feeling restless or unhappy. And right now, you are a swirling mist of emotions. Would you care to share them with me?"

"You always did seem to know me. Even when we first came to know one another, you were so ... special. How do you know me so well, Kisuke? And why is it that when I look at you, a word comes to mind?"

"... What word?"

"Meleth"

Kisuke looked at Visenya without saying anything. Despite him appearing to have lost his cool when he kicked the Maesters out of Aemma Arryn's room, he didn't truly. He is older than most could hope to count and has so much experience that nothing truly scares or shocks him. But at the moment the word exits out of Visenya's mouth, he is a bit baffled. He, of course, knows that word, and he knows the language as well. But he didn't know that he would hear it again, from Visenya no less.

"What is it, Kisuke? What's that word? What aren't you telling me? Why do I feel like I am ... changing? Look at my hair!"

"It's beautiful."

"It's golden! With a strike of silver! It wasn't that way when I was born! When I talked to Viserys, I felt so calm and poised. Like there was knowledge inside my head I didn't possess before. I was ..."

"Wise."

"YES! So you do know. Tell me. Please."

"Haaah. Haha. Life has a weird sense of humour, you know. So, let's start at the beginning. The word you mentioned."

"Meleth"

"Yes. It's Sindarin ... and it means love."

A/N What's poppin, everyone. I thought I'd surprise those few of you who are still interested in this story. I have spent a lot of time studying and failing and studying again. But I wasn't idle. I created an entire backstory for our protagonist, and it even involved some romance and another world. As you may have guessed.

I will try to write more, and no, I haven't abandoned my other stories. Cheers.
