Chapter 1 - A dream

"Kiya! A voice shrieked but the frightened woman didn't stop, she kept running away through the neverending hallway as she held in one hand a little boy. She was breathing like she would faint. I could barely see her face. But I could see around me and I could see her chin and I could feel her hands wrapped around me like a fuzzy blanket but I couldn't tell where I was. What was this? Some sort of dream?

Splisssssh!

A sudden cold sensation slapped me back into reality and I jerk up like a leaping lamatoad. I yelped in exasperation. Water? Did she have to do this every day?

I looked up in putrid annoyance and there she stood, one hand to her hip and another yielding her deadliest weapon, a wooden bucket. My sister Freya.

"Get off your butt Azel. The chores aren't going to magically do themselves you know!

"Ugh. I know, I know but do you really have to do that every single day? I grumbled crawling off my bed.

"I wouldn't have to if you didn't oversleep everyday like a pregnant cow. Were you having another dream about Charle again? She mused with a finger to her lips and my face turned red.

Charle was the chief's daughter, someone in my class at school and someone I've had a pitiful crush on like forever even though she didn't even know I existed.

"I wasn't dreaming about anyone. I was just ….."

Then the strange dream came to mind again. It was true. I had been dreaming about someone for a while now but I just didn't know who it was.

"You were just what?

"Em…nothing, it's not important"

I slipped out of my night shirt and wore a new one. I had barely turned when Freya threw a bucket and a mop at me. The mop stick of course thought it would be hilarious to land on my face instead.

"Damn it, Freya. Can't you be a little more careful?

"Can't you whine less? It's not manly" She said with a snort and moved out. I followed like a helpless lamb and so my day began. With chores. Mopping felt like hell. If felt more worse than Mr Fruta's history teachings. I was sweating like I was about to be skinned alive. I wiped the sweat off my brows as I saw my sister come in with a hoard of bags and items. Bags even I couldn't lift even if I trained a hundred years. Well, it wasn't a surprise though as Freya's soul stone power was super strength and speed.

"Hey Freya, can't you just use your powers and you know get the work done really fast?

"Do I look like a donkey to you, turd? She snorted and dropped all the bags by a corner. I sighed.

"It's just I have to catch up with my friends Aimee and Hannes before noon. At this rate I won't be done till midnight"

"You want me to help you so you can run off with a couple of delinquents you call friends? Uh uh. You'll just have to do it yourself"

"Come on. I'll give you all my stew shares for a week!

"No"

"My pruned beans?

"No"

"I'll take out the trash for a week?

"No"

I sighed.

"You are so impossible" I muttered.

She threw a shirt at my face and I gasped nearly stumbling.

"Sir Caes….." She started off.

"I heard he'll be passing through river lake village. Get him to put a sign on that shirt and you may have as well paid your debt"

"Uuhhh….sir Caes? The sir Caes? How am I supposed to get him to sign this? Ink is like a darn luxury and how in the world am I supposed to approach him anyway?

"You want my help or not? She snapped and I gulped.

"Oh em…yeah yeah. I'll do just that. Thanks sis!

I scurried off.

"Be back before mom comes!

I heard her scream from behind and I gave a frantic wave.

"I will!

As I ran, I passed by some kids playing leviti ball, a fun game where kids tried to kick a levitating ball through their opponents defence gate. It was a game which encompassed both body and soul and one every boy was passionate about but for a boy with no soul stone power, it was pretty much close to plain hard or impossible.

When a person is born, they are born with a soul stone located in the body. The location mostly depended on what sort of powers they possessed. Freya's soul stone was located in her chest. Her heart was stronger than the average person and could make a 500 beats in a second depending on how much energy she was using. This made her extremely strong as blood was always pumped to her muscles and organs a 100 times faster than an average person.

My friend Hannes had his soul stone on his palms. He could make anything he touched weightless. He had been the king of leviti ball when we were kids. Aimee on the other hand had his soul stone located in his stomach. He could eat anything in the universe and tell what it was made out of, even poison and not get hurt. It might seem unimpressive at first but he was sure to land a food tasting job wihin the royal palace in the Sky realms. Everyone was born with one or another amazing power which reflected who they were. Those powers differed a bit from one realm to another but as all realms were all together and under the leadership of the great Sky nobles it could be safe to say the world was nothing but a world of eccentrics but then there was a me.

The only kid born without a soul stone.

It was rare. I wouldn't kid myself, it was impossible. From the beginning of time as far back as human history could remember every kid has been born with a soul stone but I didn't have any. A lot of people said I was cursed. Some said maybe I was a genetic anomaly but I wouldn't blame them. It never happens. I've heard of some rare cases where some kids were born without soul stones but got them later on but then when I crossed thirteen, my mum and teachers lost all hope. I didn't lose hope though. I've been studying researching and looking for a way to get my soul stone and unlock my powers. That's why I have to meet up with my friends for some intensive training and experiments. I had to get my soul stone and I had to get my powers because without it, I wouldn't be able to join the Silver brotherhood knight's guard.

The Knight's guard was a group of elite warriors who protected the realms. The silver brotherhood were more than elite. The silver brotherhood was a group of knight guards whose expertise, experience, skill and powers surpassed every other level you could probably think of in the universe. They were indomitable. Captains and leaders and generals. They were unmovable and unlike normal knight guards, they had the supreme duty of protecting the people.

I wanted to become a knight and become part of the silver brotherhood. I wanted to protect people like they did. Why did I admire them so much?

When I was younger, our village was attacked by a group of merciless rebels. They had broken into our house. Mom had tried to protect us but her soul stone power, illusion didn't quite cut it, especially since it was never fostered for combat. She had taken a hit to the head and Freya had been left to protect the both of us. She was so brave and kept fighting back at the enemy while a pathetic me cowered by our mom. She was strong but it was only a matter of time before she was battered and almost killed but just then they burst into our house. Sir Caes and Kale of the silver brotherhood. They defeated the rebels with so much ease and saved us. That day had felt more like a dream and I had been scared. I had wondered what would have happened if they hadn't showed up? We would have been killed and I would have died a pathetic weakling knowing I couldn't protect my mother and my sister. They were amazing especially sir Caes. They always stretched their hands out to help those who were in need.

That was what I wanted to do. I wanted to protect people, I wanted to stretch my hands to them and tell them everything would be okay. Like someone had done for me.
