Chereads / Isekai Roguelite / Chapter 5 - Just one wack

Chapter 5 - Just one wack

Lucielle hovered above the clouds, the starry sky above her which usually would be a pleasant sight was set aside by her turbulent thoughts.

Below her in a building isolated by wards and nature was the Safehouse.

It was a building specially made to house the otherworlders, quality materials and experienced mages helped with the construction to make the place as safe as possible.

But, even with all these measures she couldn't help but worry.

She saw a shadow flicker in the corner of her eye. Immediately, she swooped down into the forest, landing next to an unsuspecting tree.

"Is it your turn already?" Lucielle asked with a small smile.

Rhea Moon, who was both [Demon Hunter] and sister to Lucielle stepped from behind the tree. The same red eyes that she had now gazed at her, and it always reminded her why people found it so hard to look her in the eye.

"I'll watch over them for the next two days." Rhea affirmed.

She dumped a sack? of clothes from her shoulder and onto the ground. Which turned out to not be a sack at all, but Acela Ray - the first one to cross the boundary - sprawled on the ground.

"She was a feisty one." Rhea said with a hint of approval.

"It wouldn't hurt you to be gentle you know." Lucielle said disapprovingly.

The Demon Hunter ignored her. "Cast a healing spell on her, though her mental defenses should be fine. She recovered almost as quickly as the dark haired one."

"You mean, May? …the one who used a bit of charm magic." She continued when she saw the blank expression on her sister's face.

Rhea nodded.

While strong mental defenses weren't a necessity, it was rare enough that it should be taken a note of.

Lucielle leaned against one of the trees, she always seemed tired these days.

"It's a cruel thing they're making us do, making weapons out of children." Lucielle lamented.

Rhea looked miffed. They had been over this a couple times already, and while Lucielle had already made her peace with the necessity of the situation, she still couldn't help but still feel it was all so wrong.

"Last I checked, most of them had already seen eighteen Star Storms. Not to mention they will be fully into adulthood by the time the war comes around again." Rhea said.

A Star Storm is a celestial phenomenon that happens once a year, during which all magic phenomenons are enhanced. The last one occurred during night before, during which the ancient summoning ritual was completed.

"We could have won this war by ourselves, if we allied with them and convinced the elves…"

"You, know exactly why we can't do that." Rhea said gritting her teeth.

"She wouldn't have wanted this…" Lucielle winced, realizing the mistake she had made.

*THUNK* Rhea slammed the tree behind, it creaked and shattered leaving a deep imprint.

"Don't speak of her to ME" Rhea growled. And the silence that followed was tense.

Lucielle turned away, preparing to leave.

"They will keep sending foes against us to probe us. They know we're hiding something, but they don't know what." Lucielle said again, her tone a bit softer now but still laced with worry.

"Let them come." Rhea said curtly. "With the two of us guarding them? They would have to dig their own graves first before they provoke us."

They were one of the few people on this continent with S-Tier Classes, and there were few things they couldn't deal with together.

Lucielle shaked her head unconvinced and left quietly into the night.

********

Rey had to face an ugly truth once again.

Not only did he have the weakest class, but he was untalented at combat weapons to boot. It was like one weakness after another had been piled up on one character build, resulting in the wondrous creation known as Rey Skylar.

He tried using a sword, but the instructor quickly informed exactly how untalented he was at it. He had kept nagging about how bad his form was, and how he kept losing his grip - which he demonstrated by knocking the sword out of Rey's hand every chance he got.

Rey's hands were so red, that Billy had to spoon-feed him for a few days.

He wanted to cry.

Most of the other students had awakened their classes or found something that suited them. Clark was personally being taught by the royal blacksmith and May had awakened her class by them creating a personal altar for her to pray to.

Levi was a reliable scout and partnered up with Adonis and some others to explore the forest and kill some of the weak monsters. They were even being protected by the [Demon Hunter].

'I wish I could see her face one more time.' Rey sighed.

The rest of them were being trained by Brutus, who was Lieutenant General of the Army. Apparently, he was the second in command of the Military Organization.

He personally recommended he switch to a spear. But, Rey realized another important fact when he was given a mud golem to practice on.

'I can't strike with the intent to kill. So, this might as well be useless to me.'

Rey realized as he pierced the mud golem, where the heart would usually be for a human.

When he told Brutus he couldn't kill anyone, he seemed utterly baffled. His first suggestion was to give up on combat like Sydney and go for another support class.

Sydney originally had a pretty decent combat class, but after she kept shivering each time she held a weapon and seeing how she couldn't keep her cool during any dangerous situations, even if her life depended on it made her switch to a less dangerous but weaker class.

It was only after he pestered Brutus for a different idea, that he suggested using a club. Since he could just knockout the enemy out instead of killing them.

So, Rey took a wooden club and started practicing some swings on some golems.

It was admittedly quite fun, knocking over the stupid golems one by one. Brutus was satisfied with his performance enough that he upped the difficulty a bit.

After training for a few more hours, he finally acquired the E-Tier skill [Basic Blunt Weapon Knowledge]. The skill made his swings smoother and more practiced; it was if he replaced weeks of work and instantly acquired the experience.

"It always amazes me how fast the otherworlders grow, skills that usually take a week to learn was learned in a day, even by the weakest of you." Brutus commented.

Rey had force himself not to glare at Brutus for the off-handed comment. He didn't want to be gifted another 'personal training session'.

After a week in this world, this is what his status screen looked like. He was able to access it the next day after he was summoned here.

[Additional Information]

It was a bit different from the games and novels he was so used to.

The Strength stat actually made his whole body stronger not only his attacks. So, he was able to put more strength in his legs and jump further and dash faster.

Agility didn't really increase his movement speed but instead increased the speed of his reflexes and made him more flexible.

Only, Strength and HP increased with levels normally the rest of the stats could only be acquired through classes.

And even his Awakened [Commoner] Class only gave an additional +1 HP with every level.

It was when Lucielle personally took them for a tour around the nearest town and that he was fumbling around for a coin to toss to a beggar, that he realized how broke he was in this new world.

And as if a sick joke was played on him, his [Commoner] Class awakened giving him his three class exclusive skills.

They were pretty useful… if you were weak trash that was.

[Commoner: Friendly Fire], prevented allies from accidentally killing you and [Commoner: Survival] made sure that you didn't die from one hit at least.

From what Lucielle explained to him, the skills go away as soon as you advance to an E-Tier one.

Speaking of E-Tier classes….

Damn, was jealous of Acela. She had apparently acquired the rare E-Tier Class [Genius]. E-Tier classes are usually preparatory and just prepare the user to advance to their next D-Class, they are usually [Student], [Apprentice], [Maid]...etc.

But, [Genius] was a special case that allowed you to skip D-Class if you were lucky enough and directly enter C-Class.

Acela had taken to the spear, like a fish took to water. Taking down numerous amounts of golems for an hour straight until the instructor finally upped the difficulty.

It was quite a surprise\ when she was carried by Lucielle through the air unconscious. She took a day to recover, and just slept in all day. Since, everyone went their on way - it was Heba who looked after her.

And now here she was, her stormy eyes measuring her new opponent… me.

It seemed Brutus thought it appropriate to play a cruel joke on him, when he saw him taking a break and tried to talk with Billy who was diligently training.

If him having to get beaten up by Acela wasn't enough, Billy being the wonderful friend that he was decided to call Trisha and Eric to watch as well.

'That bastard.' Rey thought.

Rey tightened the grip on his club, all he had to do was wack her with it… right.

Brutus raised his sword as Acela dashed towards him.

She had already acquired the D-Tier skill[Dash] on her third day of training and Brutus was so impressed that he personally trained her and Billy whenever he got he chance.

Rey raised the club and dropped to the ground, just in time to avoid the spear throw. The pointy part had been taken off but it would have still hurt like hell.

But, now he was on the ground with his back fully open to attacks, so he rolled over but it was too late and he got a *WHACK* on his back, which made him fall back on his stomach.

"One point for Acela." Brutus announced.

Rey gritted his teeth, but got up and readied his stance again.

Acela that bitch just grinned at him, looking like she was having all the fun in the world.

Rey didn't want to win any more, he just wanted to wack her once.

Just once.

Really, really hard.

So, when Brutus lowered his sword again, Rey made the first move. He dashed towards her, but she dashed a beat later. Arriving behind him so fast that he could barely see.

'NO, not again' Rey thought angrily.

And when Acela readied her spear to end him, Rey made the - stupid decision - to throw his club at her. R

She paused in surprise and her eyes widened right before it hit her right in the face with a *THUNK*. She dropped her spear as well, as he had tried to block it with her arms.

The club fell onto the ground, and Acela glared at me clutching her now bloody nose.

Trisha snickered. "Hell, that's a dirty move."

Billy looked confused if he should be supportive or appalled and Eric looked like he was having fun.

Acela was mad.

She wiped her nose with her arm and bent down to grab the spear. She clutched it back and held it tighter than she did before.

Brutus with a disapproving grunt, announced a point for Rey and gestured them to get in position for the third round.

… and Acela beat him black and blue without holding back this time.
