Chapter 1 - Prologue

As I lay in my bed staring at the ceiling, my alarm starts its round of irritable beeping. I sigh deeply and roll over hitting the off button on the top of the clock, glancing at the clock face. 5:45 AM is displayed on the face in bold, white, blocky lettering. I sigh again and glance over at the random woman in my bed. She's sound asleep, even snoring lightly, and my heart falters. I've slept with plenty of women since Alice left me, but no woman could ever compete with her. They don't even begin to fill the void that I have felt since she left.

I look away from the woman and gently stand up out of my bed so as not to wake her up and tread quietly to my bathroom to get ready for the long day of classes ahead of me. I close the door gently behind me and turn the hot water on to allow the water heater to heat up. After a minute, I quickly strip out of my boxers, and step into the steamy water to begin to rinse the filth I feel off of myself. After standing under the water for a few minutes, I finally quickly washed myself and stepped out of the shower turning the water behind me. Grabbing a towel out of my cabinet, I dry my hair and wrap the towel around my hips. I walk back into my room and open my closet to find clothes, deciding on a black Hoonigan shirt, black jogger-style sweatpants, and my black and white checkered vans.

I pull a pair of boxers out of my dresser and quickly get dressed. I grab my phone, wallet, and keys off my nightstand and my computer bag off of my desk. I walk to the door of my room and look back at the woman in my bed shaking my head slightly before finally walking out of the door.

I walk out of my house, get into my black 2022 Nissan Z, and check the clock on my dash. 6:30 AM displays earning yet another sigh out of me. I gently set my computer bag in the passenger seat before starting the car and pulling out of the driveway. To the coffee shop and then to class. I think to myself.

I pull into the parking lot of my local coffee shop, The Coffee Bean, and put my car in park. I turn the car off and make my way into the shop. As I walk in I accidentally bump into someone almost making her drop her drink. "I'm sorry. I should watch where I'm going." I say steadying her arm. "Yeah me too." She mumbles and looks up into my eyes. Her mouth falls open slightly for a second, and then she just walks away. Weird I guess. I say shaking off the weird interaction. I walk up to put my order in, a large cold brew with cream, liquid sugar, caramel, a shot of espresso, and cold foam. I give my money to the barista, and walk over to stand in the pick-up order line. Once my name is called, I grab my drink and get back in my car. I start the engine and drive away to make it to school before my classes start. That girl did seem familiar, but who is she? Probably someone I slept with and just don't remember her name. I think to myself driving down the road.
