Chapter 13 - Chapter 13

I closed my eyes, swinging into the dark before me. The lights fled the sight of the hooded figure. 

Time began to slow as I waited for the impact of the bat. However, it was not the impact I expected. I felt its hand catch the bat mid-swing, ripping it from hands. I hadn't dared open my eyes yet, my body trembled before the figure.

"I will never force you, Wren. The choice is always yours," the voice whispered dangerously close.

"Ch..choice…?", I trembled, digging deep for an ounce of strength. "What choice is this? I am plagued with thoughts of you everyday. Constant reminders that you are a figment of my imagination taking shape in people I meet. I can no longer tell where the lines blur."

My breath was ragged as I waited its response. Thunder startled my eyes open long enough to see I was alone. Not a shred of light illuminated the room as the wind howled outside.
