Aqua and Ruby... both are the main characters of Oshi no Ko," Aki thought, the realization sinking in as he looked at the two people in front of him—Amamiya and Sarina. "That means they're the son and daughter of Ai. But the twist was that both were reincarnated fans of Ai."
He replayed the memories from the story in his mind. "They were these people in front of me—Amamiya and Sarina. But their death timelines were different. Sarina died when she turned 12, which means two years from now. And Amamiya… he died when Ai was pregnant. Wait... wasn't he the one who delivered Ai's children? This is confusing. But he did die the day Ai delivered."
Aki furrowed his brow, trying to make sense of it all. "Even with that much time difference, both Amamiya and Sarina became Ai's twins... There's no theory or answer why something like this would happen, but as now I'm preventing Ai from falling into the hands of that man. What would happen if both of them die?"
He paused, considering the weight of the situation. "Well, I want to know, but..." Looking at the innocent girl and the respectable doctor before him, Aki sighed. "Well, it's not like I'm heartless enough to let an acquaintance die. And Ruby… no, Sarina… even if I can't save you, I'll at least assist Amamiya in helping you enjoy this beautiful world while you can."
"Hmmm, have I really reached the age where I want a daughter?" Aki mused, deep in thought. "I'm 16 now, but in my previous life, I was 24. So if I add those together, that makes me 40… No, no, no! That can't be right!" He shook his head, feeling flustered. "I haven't even been in this body for a full year yet, so those 16 years shouldn't count!"
He continued his self-reflection, trying to justify his confusion. "Even though I was 24, I lacked social skills. I was always a bit immature for my age. I mean, sure, I worked, but I was a lone wolf the entire time. That's probably why I still feel like a child inside." Aki sighed, realizing. "I have social skill niw because my consciousness got mixed with Aki's, not because I actually am."
Then, shifting his focus, Aki thought about his complicated feelings of wanting a harem towards the girls. "But what about those girls? I'm 24 in soul, right? Shouldn't I feel weird about wanting them?" He pondered. "But maybe because I watched them when I was the same age as them, I still see them as my peers, even if they haven't aged."
He tried to make sense of it all, reasoning with himself. "Yeah, that must be it. Even if I grow older, they won't age like they did in those 2D and 3D relationships I used to obsess over. But now... now that we're in reality, everything's different."
He paused, feeling a strange sense of relief. "And the best part is, we're the same age now. Even if there's a slight age difference, it doesn't matter. We can grow old together. It's a strange logic, but it works," he concluded, convincing himself of the new reality he was living in.
While Aki was lost in his own thoughts, making a series of expressions—sadness, joy, and everything in between— Sarina whispered to Amamiya, "Sensei, is he also a patient?"
"That..." Amamiya hesitated, unsure of how to respond, but Aki snapped out of his internal monologue.
"Little girl... Was that intentional?" Aki asked, a vein pulsing on his forehead.
"Um, I don't know what you're talking about," Sarina replied innocently, tilting her head.
"This girl... she was intentionally acting weak, barely making any noise, and now she purposefully said that out loud so I would hear it." Aki's expression darkened as he realized what had happened.
Sarina, sensing his frustration, curled up closer to Amamiya, hugging his arm with fake tears in her eyes. "Sensei, I'm scared," she whimpered, giving Aki a quick peek before hiding her face again, playing the role of the frightened girl perfectly.
Aki couldn't help but be impressed. "Wow... she really lives up to Ruby's character. What a level of acting skill."
Sighing, Aki turned to Amamiya. "Sensei, I've enjoyed my time with you, and I've learned a lot. For today, I'll be heading back to... well, my mother's room. Thank you for everything you taught me. Goodnight." He began to walk away without waiting for a response, but Amamiya called out.
"Aki-kun, wait..."
"Yes?" Aki turned back. "Is there anything I can help you with?"
"It's not much... well, actually, it is something," Amamiya said, hesitating. "I want to ask a favor."
"What favor?" Aki asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Could you accompany Sarina when you visit Yuki over the next few days? Sarina would like having friends around her age," Amamiya requested, his tone hopeful.
"Yuki is nine... and she's ten," Aki thought, but he knew that, technically, a one- or two-year age difference wasn't much. It could still be considered close enough. "I don't mind, as long as Miss Drama Queen here stops being dramatic," he teased, winking at Sarina.
Sarina pouted, but Aki smiled. "Then tomorrow, okay?" he said, walking out of the room with a wave.
As Aki left, Amamiya let out a sigh. "Sarina, you shouldn't be rude like that," he gently reprimanded her, tapping her forehead lightly.
"But I don't like him," she replied immediately, her voice soft but firm.
"Eh? Why though? You've only just met him," Amamiya asked, surprised by her reaction.
"Yeah, but—" Sarina paused, her thoughts swirling. 'How should I explain? Hearing him talk about my death like it was just a fact… about my remaining life as just 'extending my death day'... It made me sad. I really want to live more, enjoy life, make friends, and sing like birds every morning... It's not that I hate him, but what he said really hurt me.'
After a long sigh, she shrugged, "--it's nothing. His face was just ugly," she muttered, though the words didn't quite convince even her. The real reason for her sadness was deeper than she was willing to admit.
Amamiya looked at Sarina, then glanced at the door Aki had just walked out of, then down at himself. If that kid is ugly, then I must be even uglier, he thought, chuckling internally.
'Sigh, kids these days...' He was amused by her childish reasoning but kept the thought to himself. Seeing the medical file on the table, he decided to shift the mood. "Alright, it's bedtime already. I'll check your report first, then I'll read you a story. After that, you should get some sleep."
"Um," Sarina nodded, her earlier frustration fading. She lay down, closing her eyes as Amamiya sat beside her, reviewing her medical report. There was a quiet trust between them, as though these bedtime routines had become a comforting ritual in her difficult live.
As she waited for him to finish, she smiled slightly, knowing that even if her life was uncertain, moments like these brought a small sense of peace.
