As they all sat down around the small dining table, Aki found himself in a somewhat awkward yet endearing position.
He had already eaten earlier with Hina and Kamiya, but now, here he was, sitting down for another meal. Misa, sensing his predicament, tried to reassure her family. "Mom, shijo kun and I already had dinner earlier. He doesn't need to eat again," she said, casting Aki a sympathetic glance.
However, Minako wasn't having it. She gave Misa a stern look. "Nonsense, Misa. He's our guest. It's only proper that he shares a meal with us," she insisted firmly. Her eyes were kind, but her tone left no room for argument. With a soft sigh, Misa gave in and took a seat next to Aki. "Alright, Mom," she conceded, "But just a little. We're both full."
The table was set with a humble spread: a steaming pot of miso soup, a small platter of grilled fish, some pickled vegetables, and a bowl of rice. Aki couldn't help but feel a wave of nostalgia wash over him; this was far from the lavish meals he was used to, but it was clear that every dish was made with love. As he took a spoonful of the soup, he felt the warmth seep into his body. "This is delicious, Minako-san," he complimented sincerely, taking another sip. "I haven't had such a comforting meal in a long time."
Minako smiled, her eyes twinkling with gratitude. "Thank you, shijo-kun. It's just a simple meal, but I'm glad you like it." Suzuna, sitting across from him, was quick to chime in. "Mom's cooking is the best. Even Ne-san can't cook like this!" she teased, sticking her tongue out at her sister. Misa rolled her eyes playfully but couldn't hide the small smile tugging at her lips. "Well, I'm not as experienced as Mom," she admitted, giving Aki a side glance, "But I'm learning."
The conversation flowed easily, with Aki fitting in as if he had always been a part of their family. They spoke about everyday things: Suzuna's school life, Misa's work, and the small happenings in their neighborhood. Aki listened intently, asking questions and making sure to include everyone in the conversation. He found himself genuinely enjoying their company, the simple warmth of a close-knit family. It was a refreshing change from his usual interactions, and he couldn't help but feel a sense of peace.
As they finished eating, Aki turned to Suzuna with a smile. "Hey, Suzuna, I was thinking," he began, catching her attention. "Tomorrow, your sister and I are planning to go to an idol show. It's just a small event, but I think it would be fun. Would you like to come with me?" Suzuna's eyes widened with excitement. "An idol show ? I haven't gone to one? I'd love to go!" she exclaimed, her youthful enthusiasm shining through. Minako nodded approvingly, happy to see her daughter so excited. "That sounds wonderful, Suzuna. You should go and enjoy yourself," she encouraged.
With dinner done and the evening winding down, Aki knew it was time to leave. He stood up, bowing slightly to Minako. "Thank you for the meal, Minako-san. And thank you for welcoming me into your home," he said gratefully.
Minako smiled warmly. "You're always welcome here, Aki-kun. Please come by anytime," she replied kindly. Misa walked him to the door, feeling a mix of gratitude and embarrassment. "Thanks for everything today," she said softly, glancing at him from the corner of her eye. "And for... the groceries."
Aki chuckled lightly. "No need to thank me, Misa. I'm just glad I could help," he responded gently. As he stepped outside, Suzuna called out, "See you tomorrow, Aniki!" waving eagerly from the doorway. Aki waved back, a genuine smile on his face. "See you tomorrow, Suzuna!" he called before turning to Misa. "Take care, Misa. I'll see you soon," he said, giving her a small wave. Misa nodded, a faint smile playing on her lips as she watched him walk away. "Goodbye, shijo," she murmured softly, waving as he disappeared down the street.
As Aki left, he couldn't help but feel a strange sense of fulfillment. His desire to conquer these girls grew as he saw their smiles, their attitudes, and their beauty—things he had admired in his previous life. Now, he was on his way to fulfilling those desires.
As Aki drove home, his mind into those daydream. Which he couldn't shake off the strange mix of satisfaction and ambition he felt.
He was determined now, more than ever, to make his desires a reality. The smiles, the warmth, and even the simplicity of their lives contrasted sharply with his own, but they gave him something he hadn't realized he needed—
A purpose beyond his own ambitions on this animated world that's written by other imaginations. He was determined to break free of Those so call plot chains.
When Aki finally arrived home, the house was quiet. The moonlight streamed in through the windows, casting long shadows on the walls. He opened the door softly, not wanting to disturb the peaceful silence. He noticed a dim light flickering from one of the rooms on the ground floor. Peeking inside, he found Selly already asleep on one of the beds, curled up like a child. She looked peaceful, almost vulnerable, and for a moment, Aki felt a twinge of something he couldn't quite identify—perhaps a mix of protectiveness and guilt. He closed the door quietly, leaving her to rest.
Aki made his way upstairs to his own room, his steps slow and deliberate. Once inside, he immediately went to his desk, where his laptop and notes were scattered. He took a deep breath, knowing that he had more work to do before he could finally rest. He powered up his laptop and opened the document containing his latest novel. His fingers danced over the keyboard as he continued writing and uploading his novel, his thoughts pouring out like a river that had been dammed for too long.
Hours passed in a blur. The only sound in the room was the quiet tapping of his keyboard and the occasional rustle of papers as he flipped through his notes. The clock on his desk ticked steadily toward midnight, its hands moving with a kind of inevitability that made Aki anxious. He knew that once midnight struck and he fell asleep, there was a chance he could swap bodies with Mitsuha again. The thought made him pause, his fingers hovering over the keys as the final minutes of the day ticked away.
Aki glanced at the clock again—it was 11:59 PM. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, whispering a silent prayer. "Please, not tonight. I have too much to do tomorrow," he murmured. The last thing he needed was to wake up in someone else's body with someone else's responsibilities, especially when he had plans to further his own goals. He needed to stay focused, and body-swapping with Mitsuha was a distraction he could not afford.
When the clock finally struck midnight, Aki exhaled slowly. He looked around his room, then he turned off his laptop and stretched, feeling the tension of the day leave his body. He turned off the light and crawled into bed, pulling the covers up to his chin. He allowed his mind to drift, hoping for a dreamless sleep. The darkness of the room wrapped around him like a comforting blanket, and soon he was lost in slumber, hoping that when he woke, he would still be himself.
