Aki parked his bike in the parking lot of one of Kyoto's finest private hospitals, owned by none other than his mother. After securing his bike, he made his way inside the hospital, heading straight for the reception desk.
Spotting a nurse engrossed in paperwork, he called out, "Hello, I'm here for room 05. It's a private room under the name Yuki Masachika."
The nurse looked up from her work and replied, "Please wait a moment. I need to verify your details before granting access." After checking the visitor list and finding no names, she looked back at Aki. "Sir, could you please identify yourself? What is your relationship to the patient?"
Aki sighed in mild frustration. "Do I really have to?"
"Yes, sir. It's protocol," the nurse explained kindly. "Only the guardian, parents, relatives, and doctors have free access. Other visitors need approval from one of those parties."
Resigned, Aki nodded. "Alright, I'll call someone to give me permission."
He stepped away from the counter to call his mother, but after a few rings, he heard, "The number you have dialed is currently switched off."
"Of course it is," Aki muttered to himself, annoyed. "She's probably on her plane by now. Why does she always have to act so low-key? She could've just taken a private jet instead of a public flight."
Shrugging off his frustration, Aki returned to the receptionist. "Miss, could you inform your superior—or maybe even the CEO of this hospital—that Aki Shijo, son of Tamayo Shijo, has arrived?"
The nurse's eyes narrowed slightly, betraying her thoughts as she processed the situation. Despite the name "Shijo" being well-known, she seemed to s
Not know what it represents and suspect that Aki might be some kind of prankster or simply delusional. Nevertheless, she quickly nodded and responded politely, "Of course, sir. Please wait a moment." She picked up the phone and calmly called for security, "Hello, security? Please come to the front desk."
Aki, expecting the typical first-class treatment reserved for those with his last name, was momentarily stunned. He blinked, staring at the nurse like a puzzled child, his arrogance evaporating in the face of unexpected resistance.
Sighing, he slumped into a nearby chair, a mix of frustration and amusement bubbling up inside him. "Dealing with new employees is such a hassle," he muttered to himself, unsure whether to be angry at the nurse for not recognizing him or to laugh at the ridiculousness of the situation.
As he sat there, contemplating the absurdity of it all, Aki reflected on the differences between his parents. "Mother, I get why you like to keep a low profile," he thought, smiling to himself. "But I definitely inherited Father's love for showing off. So face slaping became my trend haha."
Aki watched as the middle-aged man, whom he recognized from childhood, and a young, puzzled security guard rushed toward him. So,he Casually wave at them, he noticed the sudden halt in their steps. The young guard looked to his senior in confusion, trying to understand why they had stopped so abruptly.
"Aniki, what's wrong?" the young guard asked, noticing the senior's fearful expression.
"Nothing, I was just surprised to see him again," the senior guard replied, his voice carrying a hint of nostalgia as he walked toward Aki, with the young guard following closely behind.
The older man gave a respectful nod to Aki and smiled warmly. "Young master, you've grown quite a bit."
Aki returned the smile. "Of course, I'm 15 now, and already in high school."
The older guard chuckled. "Time sure flies. But what brings you here today? Are you here to see Madam?"
"No, my mom's on her way to Russia. I'm here for some other business," Aki replied, shifting his gaze toward the nurse who had called security on him. The older guard quickly understood the situation and moved to speak with the nurse, leaving Aki alone with the younger guard.
"Are you new here?" Aki asked, noting the tension in the young guard's stance.
"Yes, sir!" the young guard replied, clearly nervous, piecing together from his senior's behavior that Aki must be someone important—probably the son of a high-ranking doctor or another influential figure.
Aki chuckled softly at the guard's anxiety. "I thought so too... Let me give you a little advice. If anyone—literally anyone—mentions the name 'Shijo,' it's no longer your business. You better call a superior, like the CEO or the chief executive."
The young guard, still puzzled, couldn't help but blurt out, "Why?" But as soon as he realized he'd spoken out of turn, he quickly covered his mouth, eyes wide with regret.
Aki didn't seem to mind. Instead, he laughed and responded simply, "Why? Well, it's because the Shijo family owns this hospital."
The young guard's eyes widened even more, and he quickly bowed his head in apology, understanding the gravity of the situation. "I-I'm sorry, sir! I didn't know."
Aki waved it off, still smiling. "No need to apologize. Just remember for next time."
The older guard, having settled things with the nurse, returned to Aki's side. "Everything's sorted, young master. You're free to visit room 505 now. A chief executive will come and escort you personally."
"Thanks, old man," Aki replied, giving a nod to both guards before heading toward the man running toward him. Recognizing the man as a hospital executive, Aki guessed that he would be the one to escort him to his destination.
As he walked, Aki couldn't help but smirk, enjoying the unique experience of blending in and stepping out of the shadows of his family's influence whenever he pleased. There was something amusing about playing both roles—the anonymous visitor and the powerful heir—depending on the situation.
The executive, slightly out of breath, reached Aki and quickly straightened his tie. "Young Master Shijo, I apologize for the delay. I'll personally escort you to room 05."
Aki nodded, his smirk fading into a more serious expression. "Lead the way."
As they walked through the pristine hospital corridors, Aki noticed how the staff subtly shifted their demeanor as they passed. Some seemed nervous, others curious, all clearly aware of who he was. But Aki, with his usual nonchalance, paid them little mind. He was here for a reason, and everything else was just background noise.
The executive maintained a respectful distance, but his presence was a reminder of the influence Aki wielded without even trying. "Is there anything else you might need during your visit, sir?" the executive asked, his tone deferential.
"I'll let you know if I do," Aki replied, keeping his tone light. He didn't plan to stay long—just enough to fulfill his mother's request.
When they finally reached room 05, the executive opened the door for Aki with a slight bow. "Here we are, Young Master. However, before you proceed, there's a protocol set by Madam Shijo that you need to follow."
Aki paused, curious. "What protocol?"
The executive smiled politely. "Nothing too demanding, sir. Just a few precautions to ensure the patient's well-being. You'll need to clean up, change into the new clothes provided by the hospital, and sanitize thoroughly before entering the room. The patient has asthma, so we take extra care to maintain a sterile environment."
Aki nodded, understanding the need for such precautions. "Alright, I don't mind. Makes sense, given the circumstances."
The executive led Aki to a nearby room where he could wash up and change into the fresh clothes provided—a simple set of hospital scrubs. After cleaning up and sanitizing his hands, Aki felt more prepared to meet the patient.
Once he was ready, Aki returned to room 05, where the executive was waiting for him. "All set?" the executive asked, noting Aki's compliance with the protocol.
"Yeah, let's get this done," Aki replied, his demeanor shifting to one of focus as he prepared to meet the young girl his mother had entrusted him to look after. With the precautions in place, Aki was ready to fulfill his mother's request and spend some time with the patient.
