As Misaki and Aki sat in the back seat, the atmosphere felt surprisingly comfortable. The illuminating streetlights cast a gentle glow, and the streets were mostly empty due to the late hour, with only a few cars passing by occasionally.
The passenger seat and driver's seat were separated by a glass partition, creating a sense of isolation between them and the outside world, as if they were alone in a void.
As the tension built, the car came to a stop, and the partition opened. Alex, the driver, spoke, "Young master, Miss Misaki has given her home address. We've arrived."
"Um, okay," Aki replied.
Both of them got out of the car and stood in front of Misaki's house. Aki observed the rundown condition of the place with a sense of amazement. The paint was peeling, the iron gate was corroded, and parts of the wall were falling off. The windows had no glass, only covered with sheets.
Seeing Aki taking in the state of her house, Misaki felt a wave of shame. She hurried to get inside as quickly as possible. "I'll be going in now. Thank you for everything," she said, trying to usher him away, not wanting him to see more of her living conditions.
She didn't know why, but she really didn't want him to see her this way.
"Oh, is that so?" Aki said, snapping out of his daze. He looked at Misaki with a gentle expression, understanding her discomfort.
Aki sighed to himself, Even in my previous life, my parents' house was in better shape than this. He looked at Misaki and could instantly read her thoughts.
She wants to get rid of me, he thought, feeling a pang of disappointment as Misaki urged him to leave.
Instead of complying, he stepped closer to her, gently took her wrist, and pulled her into his embrace. Misaki was caught off guard, her mind racing with confusion. What was happening? She couldn't react in time.
Aki pressed a gentle kiss on her lips, a fleeting touch that sent a jolt through her mind and body. She instinctively tried to punch him in response, but this time, Aki was ready. He dodged her punch effortlessly.
"Not this time," he said softly, holding her gaze. He had anticipated her reaction this time, unlike before when he was caught off guard.
Misaki's emotions were a whirlwind. She felt a mix of surprise, anger, and something else she couldn't quite name.
"What was that for?" Misaki shouted, frustration and confusion evident in her voice as she tried to punch Aki again, demanding him not dodge.
Each punch she threw was effortlessly avoided or deflected by Aki. Every time she swung, he responded with a quick flick on her forehead, a tap on her lips, or a light touch on her nose.
As Misaki's anger mounted, she intensified her punches. Five minutes passed in a blur, and she found herself gasping for air, leaning against the wall, staring at Aki with a dangerous glare.
"Don't look at me like that," Aki protested, making a puppy face. His girlish features and long hair, now loose around his face, softened his appearance and made him look cute to Misaki.
She sighed heavily, catching her breath, and asked, "Why? What was that for?"
"Oh, those?" Aki chuckled, his tone light. "Consider them my revenge. The first one was for punching my nose, and the others were for attempting to punch me again." His playful smirk didn't fade, despite Misaki's serious expression.
Misaki wanted to shout at Aki, but before she could say anything, he had already jumped into his car. He slid the window down and blew her a flying kiss. "Don't forget to call me!" he suggested with a playful smile.
Watching him give her a flying kiss and then wave his hand with a wink aimed at her window, Misaki felt a mix of emotions.
"Why is he waving up there?" she thought, and she looked up, only to see her sister and mother peeking out of the window.
Her heart sank. Since when, she wondered, had they seen everything? Her head couldn't handle any more events today.
"I want to rest," she sighed, "but I need to explain to them. But how do I explain those kisses?"
"Mom! Suzuna!" she shouted, shocked to see them staring at her. "What are you both doing there?"
Storming into the house, she knew she needed to explain the misunderstanding as soon as possible. Her heart pounded as she prepared to face their questions.
(Inside Ayuzawa household)
Suzuna was doing her school assignment when her mother called, "Suzuna!"
"Yes, Mom?" Suzuna responded, heading downstairs. She found her mother looking worried. "Do you need anything, Mom?" she asked.
Suzuna looked a lot like her older sister, Misaki, with shoulder-length black hair tied in two low ponytails and amber eyes. She had a natural beauty that made her stand out, often considered a raw diamond. With her average height, she was dressed in a simple yet charming outfit: a pink blouse and a yellow parka.
Suzuna looked at her mother, Minako, who appeared worried. Minako, a young woman with black hair tied in a messy bun, had bangs framing her face and large amber eyes that mirrored the concern she felt. Despite looking sickly, Minako had a beauty that matched her daughters'.
"It's not much, but I am worried about your sister. She called me an hour ago and hasn't returned yet. Should we go find her?" Minako asked, seeking her younger daughter's judgment.
Suzuna, although equally worried about Misaki, tried to remain calm. "Don't worry, Mom. Sis is strong. She'll be alright. Let's wait a little longer," she comforted her mother, hoping to ease her stress, especially given her illness.
Minako sighed, nodding slightly. "I hope you're right, Suzuna. I just can't help but worry."
After comforting her mother, Suzuna headed upstairs to her room. Just as she reached her table, she heard a car pulling up. Peeking out the window, she sighed with relief when she saw her sister, Misaki, stepping out.
However, just as Suzuna was about to head downstairs to inform her mother and open the door for Misaki, she noticed a man getting out of the car as well.
Bewildered, she stayed at the window, wanting to investigate further. Just for research purposes only.
As she watched their interaction, the door to Suzuna's room opened, and Minako walked in, carrying a plate of sliced apples. "Suzuna, what are you doing?" she asked, setting the plate on the table.
Curious, Minako joined her daughter at the window. "Who is that?" she asked, looking out the window to see what had captured Suzuna's attention.
"It's sis," Suzuna replied, "She's finally back, but there's a guy with her. That guy is dropping her off." She turned to Minako, her voice filled with curiosity.
"Oh, it's Misaki. But I don't recognize any male friends she has," Minako mused, recalling the previous call where Misaki had stated she was at a friend's house. She had assumed it was a female friend since Misaki had always expressed a strong dislike for men and didn't have any male friends.
"That's the problem, Mom. She doesn't have any male friends, but a man is dropping her off," Suzuna pointed out.
Minako's confusion turned to surprise as she observed the interaction between Misaki and Aki. When she saw Aki kiss Misaki, she blushed deeply. "What... what are they doing in the street?" she exclaimed, feeling embarrassed for her daughter.
Suzuna's eyes widened in disbelief, but she couldn't help but glance at her mother. "Aren't you an adult, Mom? Why are you feeling embarrassed over a kiss?" she thought but kept silent. Instead, she continued to observe the scene intently, seeing it as an opportunity to understand more about her sister's unexpected relationship.
As they observed, Suzuna and Minako felt like third wheels, spying on a couple's intimate moment. Misaki, true to her fiery nature, tried to punch the man, but he dodged effortlessly, responding with more kisses. Suzuna found herself thinking, "They're a match made in heaven. There's really someone who can tame my sister."
Suzuna glanced at her mother, Minako, who was equally captivated and embarrassed. "Where does Misaki get her toughness from?" Suzuna wondered. She had only ever seen her mother's innocent and gentle side.
As they continued to watch, Shijo got back into his car, ready to leave. They sighed in relief, relaxing slightly as they anticipated questioning Misaki. They quickly released the sheet covering the window, thinking their spying session was over. But to their surprise, Shijo noticed them. He waved and winked, sending a jolt of surprise through them.
Suzuna's heart skipped a beat, and Minako's face flushed with embarrassment. "Caught in the act," Minako thought, mortified at being seen spying on her daughter's romantic encounter.
Suzuna, trying to compose herself, felt her cheeks burning. "I can't believe he saw us," she thought, the mortification sinking in. Did sis saw us to?"
They quickly stepped away from the window, trying to act casual as the front door opened and Misaki stepped inside, looking flustered and tired.
Suzuna, trying to compose herself, felt her cheeks burning. "I can't believe he saw us," she thought, the mortification sinking in. "Did sis see us too?" She asked her mother, wondering if Misaki had caught them spying on her.
Minako sighed softly, her own embarrassment evident. "I'm not sure, Suzuna. Let's hope not."
They quickly stepped away from the window, attempting to act nonchalant as the front door swung open and Misaki hurried inside, looking flustered and tired.
The sound of Misaki's footsteps made Suzuna and Minako tense up, expecting her to explode in anger. But instead, Misaki surprised them.
"He was just a friend!" Misaki shouted, slamming the door shut behind her and rushing to her room.
Both Suzuna and Minako exchanged surprised glances. They couldn't believe how much Misaki had changed in that moment.
Suzuna's mind raced with questions and concern for her sister. "What happened out there?" she wondered silently, her thoughts filled with a mixture of curiosity and worry.
Minako placed a comforting hand on Suzuna's shoulder. "Let's give her some space," she suggested gently. "She'll talk to us when she's ready."
Suzuna nodded, still processing everything she had witnessed. "Yeah, you're right, Mom," she agreed quietly.
They stood there in the hallway, the air heavy with unspoken questions and the lingering awkwardness of their unintentional intrusion into Misaki's private moment.
