In a world not so different from our own, there is a river. On the east side of the river is a desert. On the west side there is a rainforest. At a point along this river there is a town large enough to almost be a city. In the middle of the city, there is a circular wall centered on the river so that half of the interior is rainforest and half is desert. This is Wondant College. Wondant was built here because of the Arena in the desert area of the wall. Some say the ancient Arenas were built by gods, others say they are all that remains of primordial beings, still others say that they are the lingering magic of legendary shades possessing the earth itself. Although how they came to be isn't entirely known, that mystique only enhances the people's love for their use. When soldiers aren't fighting wars, they are usually fighting in arenas. This is why most become soldiers, because there's nothing like it. The arenas are filled with magic, and each seem to have a will of their own. The purpose of these arenas boils down to the few words inscribed above Wondant's front entrance "Glory and Magic". These arenas are the public's favorite sport to watch, between the strategy, magic, and strength, that alone is a spectacle capable of seducing a god. Wondant College has had a particular habit of training some of the better Arena fighters, and for this reason, many talented fighters as well as magicians enroll seeking fame, magic, or knowledge. Almost all of the people that attend Wondant College live in Wirewood.
Wirewood, the rainforest town that bordered on the Outlands desert, and was home to the western half of Wondant College. Wirewood got its name from the thousands of metal cables that ran throughout the rainforest. These metal cables, although an ancient invention, are a masterpiece that keeps the town running. If it weren't for the web of metal wires that carried the citizens across the rainforest at impossible speeds, then traversal through the rainforest would be nearly impossible. Later, this invention would be exported to other cities and towns, but no other town was quite as enhanced by the Spiderways as Wirewood. Just as the Spiderways held a reputation for transportation, Wondant College held its own in teaching. Be it the methods, instructors, or presence of an arena, the College consistently turned out exceptional students.Â
Students fell into three main categories at Wondant. The first category is the Sen class of technical magic and general studies. This class studies general magic, which is the type of magic that everyone is able to use. It is magic like this that is imbued within the metal cables that make up the Spiderways. The second category of student is Dek. The students of the Dek class are warriors, both the most powerful and the most envied. Students of the Dek class are trained in every type of combat, but most importantly, they are trained to use their Wishes in combat. A Wish is the unique ability that every human possesses. A Wish that can be used in combat is absolutely necessary for Dek students, as it makes arena games significantly easier for those that possess rare abilities such as lightning or toxins. These are the students Wondant is known for, and for that reason, the bar for entry is by no means low. The third class is the Deka class. This class is geared towards students with either healing or support wishes. Although this class does not boast the same amount of fame as the Dek class, if their Wish has a powerful enhancement or healing ability, then they are promised no shortage of wealth in the future. The reason for this wealth is the rarity and demand for these abilities are rather high. Due to this, the number of students in this class is much smaller than the other two. Although these three classes were all useful, no one would ever even try to compare a Dek student to a Sen or Deka student; a Sen or Deka student might yet achieve a life full of magic, but everyone knew that the only ones who ever achieved both of the words inscribed on the entrance of Wondant were the Deka students. They were the only ones that achieved both "glory and magic".
