"I'll move to the left side; keep advancing." Dominic ran toward the area where more walkers were infiltrating and where the defense was weakest.
It had been a long time since Dominic was in a dangerous situation; was there even a moment like this before? He couldn't remember. From the beginning, he had always been focused on his goals.
When he realized he was in this world, all those known and unknown events put a heavy pressure on him to do something. He had to be smart at everything he did. He didn't have time to consider feelings; he used everything he had to both kill and survive.
Many people relied on him; from the beginning, he made sure his intentions were interpreted that way. He could confidently say that before, he didn't care about dying; somehow, he would die. After all, he was just a simple human, aging day by day.
There were times when he was tired, not knowing exactly which path to take to move forward. Was he really rebuilding humanity for personal desire or just to do something?
But then he met Alicia, a girl who was forced to be strong. She was very similar to him in many ways, and after months of surviving in this world, she wanted to create a safe place where no one would have to run anymore.
With that in mind, she endured the toughest situations, learning everything necessary not to leave him alone. Many people were now in Dominic's life, and he began to feel again the warmth of friendship, love, and, of course, protection.
In his previous life, he had protected an entire country, making sure it was done regardless of the results. And here, living another life, he was about to do the same, but this time he cared about the results.
He had to see with his own eyes the outcome of all his efforts, so he couldn't die.
...
"Idiot, not in that direction."
Boom!
Dominic, who was at the frontline where the tanks were, was thrown when a soldier incorrectly fired a grenade launcher projectile.
The rocks from the makeshift walls were scattered around the impact zone. The sound of the walkers could still be heard as the ones that didn't die approached quickly.
Dominic's figure was motionless on the ground; no stone had caused much damage, so he was intact. But his body didn't move, as if he were still processing his condition.
Cough Cough
Dominic coughed twice before an electric shock alerted him to his dangerous situation. After grabbing his weapon, which he hadn't dropped, he changed the magazine and lifted himself off the ground.
"Zz... Commander, respond!"
Dominic didn't respond immediately; he looked at the dust raised in the surrounding darkness and checked his body. Besides some pain from the fall, there were no open wounds, which relieved him greatly.
After taking his headphones, he connected them to his radio and spoke, "Zz... I'm fine. Focus on eliminating walkers, and don't abandon your posts under any circumstances."
"Zz... Yes, sir!"
Now, how could a soldier make this directional mistake?
He didn't know how it was possible. Looking around, all those walkers had been crushed or had their limbs broken by the explosion and couldn't walk.
But their roars could still be heard nearby, and without paying attention, Dominic walked with some difficulty and looked at the ground. There was no need to illuminate the place, as the light coming through the building's hole provided enough light.
"Did they try to kill me?"
Dominic couldn't concentrate on that because he soon saw roots spreading on the ground.
He looked at the greenish roots on the floor; he knew them well and had seen them in the reports he received from Birmingham about roots that somehow connected with special walkers.
After walking slowly backward, he looked around and saw how the wall made with provisional materials as a barricade was being invaded by these roots, which were slowly causing the wall to crack.
Moving through the debris, Dominic kicked some walkers' heads, crushing many along the way. He couldn't afford to shoot just to eliminate one walker since his P90 magazines were too few to safely leave this place.
Roar
Immediately after hearing a walker heading his way, Dominic raised his P90 and shot once in the walker's head.
Bang
The walker's body fell to the ground. Dominic then walked to a more open area where he could see walkers crawling by the tanks.
Dominic frowned and initiated a direct confrontation with those figures. For him, going through this whole situation was truly exhausting.
After eliminating those walkers, Dominic felt a strong grip on his leg. His hand movement stopped, and he turned to look at the person attacking him. With a sneer of contempt, Dominic shook his leg and, after the walker lost its grip, crushed its head with ease.
"Ah, damn it, this is exhausting!"
The pain came from all over his body, and at that moment, Dominic just wanted to leave this place full of dust and corpses. But even though there were interesting things around, he had no time to think about such things.
"Zz... sir, we can send a squad to your position. What are your orders?"
At that moment, Stuart's voice came over the intercom, and Dominic stopped. He thought about his situation for a moment and said, "No, this place is full of walkers, and I don't think it's good to mobilize."
Dominic was retreating from the tank defense line, walking backward, and without realizing it, a human figure slowly approached from the side.
The figure held a gun, raised it, and aimed at Dominic, who was unaware he was about to be killed. But at that moment, a loud thud was heard, and Dominic, turning around, saw Negan smashing that man's head.
"Ha, ha, ha, I didn't think you'd be right when you said they could come to kill you at any moment."
Dominic frowned, about to thank him, but then a harsh metal sound scraping against something sharp came from the side of the formation, followed by the dull, heavy sound of footsteps from that dark place.
This movement caught Dominic and Negan's attention, who had been too alert for a while, staring at what was behind that smoke curtain.
Boom... boom... boom...
Each step that thing in society took, as if it were stepping on gravel, seemed to crack the ground, and that's when Dominic's heart began to pound. He didn't know what was making that sound, but it was definitely not good.
"What the hell is that thing?" Dominic muttered as he changed his magazine, still having a few cartridges left. But that decision was the best he could make; he definitely wouldn't risk facing something unknown with seven cartridges in his magazine.
Boom
With a loud noise, one of the Humvees on the side was thrown.
Bang
At that moment, Dominic's wide-open eyes could see a swollen figure over two meters tall walking slowly toward him, its right arm gigantic and ending in enormous claws.
As soon as that disgusting figure saw Dominic not far away, it let out a terrifying roar heard by everyone nearby.
"Rooaarrr!"
"Mother of God, what the hell is that thing?" Negan raised his rifle and aimed at the thing beside them.
