Chapter 1 - Tale of The Gods

In the beginning, there was peace. Creatures of all varieties were created by the God's as they practiced how to manipulate their powers. The very lands would be morphed to help these creatures thrive and live peacefully. All of it was to make a world the God's would be proud of.

But not all thought of peace.

One God wanted a warrior to call their own. One who stood at the pinnacle of all of God's creation and protected them from any threat. The other God's were skeptical about this at first, but came to enjoy such an idea and began their work. This is where the first Monsters were born. Though less intelligent than the other creatures, they were fierce and followed the one order set by the God's to make things interesting.

Feed.

Unlike what the God's thought would happen, the warrior the God's held on their pedestal fell within the first few years after the Monsters creation.

Then, Calamity began.

Creatures who knew not how to fight were slaughtered relentlessly. With the very lands the God's cherished so much now flowing in an endless stream of blood, the God's finally came together for one last effort. The Monsters they had created were to much to handle, but they still couldn't clean the slate due to their pride. Instead, the God's sent out a call to any God's that would listen to them. They begged for help in balancing the world that would soon end.

It was then, She approached. An old Goddess, much older than the rest, pitied the younger God's and decided to lend her aide. She helped to guide the God's and showed them all the paths they must take to properly rule this chaotic world.

The first God was Suldan, God of the Sun and the Pantheon of Day. He would help the peaceful creatures survive by allowing the Sun's light to help their crops grow and know when it was time to be awake.

The second God was Merdal, Goddess of the Moon and Pantheon of Night. She would give light at night with her gaze and watch over the peaceful creatures as they hid from the Monsters.

The third God was Yennifer, Goddess of the Earth and Pantheon of Life. She controlled the lands the creatures walked on, dictating what grew where and how the animals would move to meet their needs in different climates.

The fourth was Hemet, God of Water and Pantheon of The Seas. He would control the very waves that covered the world and separate the lands from the seas. He decided when rain fell and how the tides would turn. He worked closely with Yennifer and made continents that were separated by his seas. This would keep the most dangerous of Monsters locked away and allow the peaceful creatures to thrive.

The fifth God was Afnir, God of Steel and Pantheon of Battle. He would teach the peaceful creatures how to use Yennifers blessings to mold metal into weapons and use them in various ways. Most peaceful creatures decided to use these gifts to better harvest the lands and make their own villages, while some stepped up to learn how to fight and defend these villages.

The sixth God was Iffit, Goddess of Ice and the Pantheon of Death. She ruled over the souls of those Monsters and peaceful creatures who perished. She decided on the soul system and how it would operate, keeping the corrupted souls of Monsters from taking the new born vessels of the peaceful creatures, and vice versa.

The seventh God was Urial, Goddess of Wind and Pantheon of Change. She would carry the rainclouds sent by Hemet and bring water to those that needed it. She would also use her winds to gently caress the lands to allow the birth of new crops and cool the hotter lands Yennifer made.

The eighth God was Ferdun, God of Fire and Pantheon of Heart. He would bring warmth to the peaceful creatures and allow them to see in the night. He worked hand in hand with Afnir to allow the creatures to mold their metals and make defenses against the Monsters that threatened them.

As the Goddess looked upon the God's, she felt something was missing. Even as villages and cities were made by the peaceful creatures, they still stood no chance against the Monsters that threatened to destroy the peaceful creatures. It was then she found the God who wanted to make the Warrior he'd dreamed about. With a warm heart, she approached and made an offer to him. Instead of one warrior, why not help all peaceful creatures grow powerful enough to defend themselves?

It was then, the ninth God was named Ushed. God of Magic and Pantheon of Knowledge. He allowed the use of magic by all creatures and made a system for the creatures to follow. Though peaceful creatures used this system easily to grow and learn more about magic and the weapons they used, He would find that some Monsters were able to use this power as well.

The Goddess said this was all to keep balance. Monsters will not be able to eradicate the peaceful creatures, and the peaceful creatures would be allowed to grow as they pleased. She then told the God's to allow faith to build, and to take in those souls that not only grew to be as powerful as they could be, but followed their authorities with kind hearts and strong determination.

Thus, the God's began to get the help they needed. Under each God, nine people were sent to assist them and better to better balance the world. The God's were ever grateful, and looked to the Goddess and ask if they could do more. But they found she had disappeared without a word, leaving them to hold the balance of the world and slowly change things as they saw fit.

"But where did she go?" A child asked from under the covers of her bed, looking up at the old woman who was reading to her. On her head was a pair of cat-like ears that popped from the top of her head. While her face looked Human, her Beast-Kin traits came out in her yellow cat-eyes and jet black hair that covered her head and ears.

"No one knows. Some say she is wandering this world to assist the God's in her own way, while others say she has gone to another world to help other desperate God's." The old woman spoke softly as she caressed the child's head. Unlike the child, she was just an old Human lady, with greyed hair and wrinkles that showed off her years of smiling. She had a scar on her cheek from an old wound, but that was during her early years of life when she lived as an adventurer.

"Grandma, have you ever met a God or their Angels?" The child asked with tired excitement, giving her eyes filled with wonder.

"I've yet to meet a God, but the Angels are not so uncommon as you would think. If there is danger, they will descend and choose champions to help bring balance to the world." She chuckled softly as she tucked the little one in. "Now Ember, it's time for sleep. We have a busy day tomorrow, and you don't want to sleep through the Ceremony now do you?"

"Do you think I'll get a Blessing like yours, Grandma?" Ember asked excitedly, bouncing a little in her bed.

The old woman gave another chuckle and leaned in to kiss her head after moving her hair away. "I pray that you get to live a free life. One not chained down by anything, and allows you to do everything you wish to do."

"I wanna be an adventurer like you were Grandma. I wanna meet a Dragon, explore dungeons and find treasure, or even travel the seas to find new lands." Ember started energetically, but soon found herself yawning and rubbing her eyes.

"Yes yes, after the ceremony tomorrow, we will see what kind blessing you get and decide from there. For now, you must rest and prepare."

"Yes Grandma. Goodnight." Ember yawned as she stretched under the cotton covers. As the child began to fall asleep, the old lady slowly stood and snuffed the small candle on the nightstand next to the bed.

She slowly crept out of the room until she reached the door. Stopping, she looked back at the sleeping figure and felt a warm smile spread over her face. After a sigh, she stepped out of the house into the cool breeze of the night. The village was a small one deep in the mountains. There were only 15 buildings in total, making the village count quite small.

As the old woman closed the door, she gave a soft sigh and straightened her back. "Adrian." She welcomed the figure that was leaning against the building with his arms folded over his chest. Her hand found the hilt of her sword as she closed her eyes.

"Lilly, it's time for you to join our side." Adrian spoke softly as he pushed himself off of the building. Holding his hands behind his back, he stood at attention and gave the respect the old woman deserved.

"I believe Afnir has allowed another week." She snapped in a whisper, causing the man to shiver a bit. Though this old woman was still a mortal, she was a highly sought after soul and feared soul. From a young age, the God's had watched this woman as she cleaved through hoards of Monsters and their own kin. She was powerful, but her blade was held justly.

"The time is approaching faster than first thought. You know what is to come, so why waste time on this child?" Adrian asked as cautiously as he could in a soft whisper. His gaze went to the door that held the child he spoke of, making him clench his hands.

"If Afnir hasn't told his most trusted General, then there is no point in me telling you. Just know that she is the change we need." Though Lilly was old and bundled up in a bunch of cloth and fur, that did little to hide the muscles and scars she had recieved from her years of battle.

"If it's as you say, I will heed your warning. I will allow two more days with your child before I come to fetch you. We have no more time to waste after that." Adrian ordered before giving a bow with his arm over his stomach. He then disappeared in a small glow, spraying shards of Mana everywhere as he left.

Lilly stood there and gave a sigh. So long has she been pestered by the God's and their Angels. It wasn't that she didn't want to join them, but she never expected to come across that child in the Dark Forest all those years ago. It hurt her to have to leave, but she felt the child would somehow be safe, even when she was gone.

With these thoughts in mind, she straightening herself again and made her way to the temple. Though she would be leaving, she would give everything she could to the child she called her own, even if it was an afront to the God's.
