Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

Chapter 8: The Reward of Subversion

"Young man, could you please take another look? Is there any problem with our certificate?" Ye Feng stepped forward, took out a bag, and handed it to the doorman.

The certificate from the Spirit Hall branch couldn't be fake. The doorman had been working there for four years, so how could he not distinguish truth from falsehood?

Every year, new students entered the Junior Spirit Master Academy in Notting City. As the saying goes, it's easier to get by than to deal with the devil. As long as you give the doorman a little something and make some arrangements, he'll let you register.

Old Jack, a simple man born in the countryside, didn't understand these principles at all.

The doorman took the purse from Ye Feng, opened it slightly, and weighed it in his hand. He smiled, bent down, and picked up the certificate he had just dropped on the ground. He then looked at it seriously and smiled, "Grandpa, I was wrong just now. After further inspection, I found that these two certificates are real. You can go in."

"Ah?"

"Ah?"

Old Jack and Tang San stood there dumbfounded, staring in astonishment at the doorman, whose attitude had suddenly changed 180 degrees. This truly fit the saying that money makes the world go round. If it doesn't work, it's because there isn't enough money.

"Ding Dong!"

"Congratulations, you have subverted a storyline in the original plot. Bonus attribute point: 1 point."

"Congratulations. Since this is the first time the host has overturned the storyline, the system will award you 10 extra attribute points."

"Attribute points? System, what are attribute points?" Ye Feng asked curiously.

"Attribute points have the same effect as spirit rings and can increase various attributes of spirit masters. For example, strength, agility, spirit, and defense. Unlike spirit rings, the attribute points rewarded by the system can precisely enhance specific aspects of your abilities." The system's voice continued, and a holographic photon screen appeared.

Name: Ye Feng.

Spirit power: Level 30.

Martial spirit: Xuanyuan Sword, Nine-Hearted Mysterious Tang, Eye of Hell.

Spirit ring: None.

Spirit skills: None (at the stage of comprehending the unity of man and sword).

Additional Strength: 0.

Additional Agility: 0.

Additional Spirit: 0.

Additional Defense: 0.

Allocable attribute points: 11 points.

...

"System, when you mention extra strength, agility, spirit, and defense, do they refer to amplifications the system grants outside of my body?" Ye Feng asked thoughtfully.

"Correct. The system kindly reminds you that each time the host adds points, they cannot be changed again." The system responded.

"Attack is the best defense, let's add strength!" Ye Feng ordered without hesitation.

As soon as Ye Feng's voice fell, eleven streams of warm energy flowed through his body.

Ye Feng looked at his hands and could feel the significant increase in strength. As for how much it had increased, actual combat would be the best way to test it.

At the same time, Tang San's expression shifted. He vaguely sensed that Ye Feng had changed, but he couldn't pinpoint exactly what was different.

"You three can go in," the doorman said with a smile.

"Grandpa Jack, Tang San, let's go in," Ye Feng said with a smile.

"Wait a moment!"

A somewhat hoarse voice suddenly sounded from behind Tang San, Ye Feng, and Old Jack.

The doorman was stunned for a moment, then quickly hid the purse Ye Feng had given him behind his back. He bowed and nodded to the newcomer, saying, "Master, you're back."

Ye Feng, Old Jack, and Tang San looked at the middle-aged man.

This man looked to be about 40 or 50 years old, with short black hair parted in the middle. His appearance was plain, his hands were behind his back, and he carried himself with a special temperament, as if he had received an aristocratic education. However, his eyes always carried a hint of laziness and decadence.

Ye Feng immediately recognized him as Yu Xiaogang, the Grandmaster.

"Old sir, could you show me the proof from the Spirit Hall?" Yu Xiaogang politely extended his hand to Old Jack.

Old Jack, being the village chief, was skilled in reading people's expressions. From the doorman's attitude toward Yu Xiaogang, he could tell that Yu Xiaogang held a high status in the academy. He promptly handed over the certificate.

Yu Xiaogang examined the proof and then glanced at Ye Feng and Tang San. His heart raced, but his face remained calm. After being a failure for decades, he had learned how to stay composed in difficult situations.

"Old sir, I'm a guest of the academy. Please leave the children to me. I'll take them to register." Yu Xiaogang said in a calm tone.

"Okay. Xiaosan, Ye Feng, follow the master inside. Remember to be obedient, especially you, Ye Feng." Old Jack instructed earnestly.

Following Yu Xiaogang, Ye Feng entered the Junior Spirit Master Academy in Notting City. The next step would undoubtedly be for Tang San to become Yu Xiaogang's disciple.

Ye Feng hadn't forgotten that he had just subverted a storyline and received a bonus of one attribute point. If he managed to subvert Tang San's apprenticeship to Yu Xiaogang, how many attribute points would he get as a bonus?

Ye Feng walked at the back of the group, observing Tang San and Yu Xiaogang, but in the end, he dismissed the idea.

"Once a teacher, always a father. You've received such a great gift from me."

Soon, a familiar scene unfolded.

After an argument with Yu Xiaogang, Tang San was deeply impressed by the man's knowledge and talent, and became his disciple.

"What about you, Ye Feng?"

Yu Xiaogang had accepted Tang San as his disciple, and now his gaze fell on Ye Feng.

To Yu Xiaogang, Tang San was indeed excellent, but Ye Feng was even better. Tang San's innate full spirit power was level 10, while Ye Feng's innate full spirit power was level 20.

Of course, this was what was written on the certificate from the Spirit Hall.

To Yu Xiaogang, the person he truly coveted was not Tang San, but Ye Feng.

"Me? What?" Ye Feng paused and then asked thoughtfully, "Don't you want to take me as your disciple?"

"Are you willing to let me guide your martial spirit?" Yu Xiaogang continued, "You are the fourth person to awaken twin martial spirits in the past hundred years!"

"What? Twin martial spirits?" Tang San was stunned, staring at Ye Feng in surprise. "Teacher, you said Ye Feng also awakened twin martial spirits?"

"Yes," Yu Xiaogang affirmed, looking at Ye Feng with fiery eyes, as if he saw a mountain of gold. He had "eaten and drunk for free" in Notting College for so long, what was his purpose? It was to find outstanding students and prove his own worth through them.

Yu Xiaogang never imagined that he would find two such talents at once. In his mind, Ye Feng would undoubtedly become his disciple, just like Tang San.

Faced with Tang San and Yu Xiaogang's expectations, Ye Feng didn't deny it, tacitly agreeing. However, he didn't have twin martial spirits—he had triple martial spirits.

"Are you willing?" Yu Xiaogang asked.

"I don't want to," Ye Feng replied.
