Chereads / Who Will Fall First? / Chapter 36 - 36

Chapter 36 - 36

For a minute, I was too stunned to move, too stunned to push him off. But, after a minute, I realized I wasn't going to be pushing him off of me anytime soon. I slowly started to kiss back, then I tangled my hands in his hair, playing with it. His one hand was still holding my wrist while his other was on my waist. The kiss was warm, passionate, comfortable. It was everything I'd ever wanted. Suddenly, my panic took over, and I pushed him away, panting. "What's wrong?" He asked, brushing a strand of hair from my face. "I-I-" I sighed. "This...this isn't right." He frowned at me. "What do you mean, this isn't right?" "Your a villain. I'm a hero. We can't be in love like this! I can't love you like I do! I'm not supposed to! I can't-I-oh, jeez-Im a mess-Why did I kiss back? I shouldn't have kissed back, I shouldn't have this crush on you, I shouldn't, I shouldn't...I shouldn't..." I was getting hysterical, losing myself in my anxiety attack, feeling like I couldn't breathe, couldn't think, couldn't move. Like my body was there, but I wasn't. "Hey, hey! Shelby, look at me. Look at me!" Slowly, I looked up at Connor, still lost in my anxiety attack. "Indentify three objects, three sounds, and move three fingers." He cupped my face, and lowered his, resting my forehead on his. Looking directly into my eyes. "Ok? Can you do that?" I nodded. "Good. What can you see?" "B-blankets, pill-ows, a-and you." "That's it, Shelby. What can you hear?" "B-breathing, silence, and your v-voice." "That's perfect. Now, can you wiggle your fingers?" I moved my pointer finger, my middle, and my third. "You did it. Do you feel better?" I stood there for a minute, trying to fish out my feelings. But there wasn't a heavy weight on my chest anymore. I wasn't hyperventilating. I wasn't rambling on and on. I managed a small nod, closing my eyes. He kissed my hair, and wrapped his arms around me, muttering sweet nothings in my ear. I didn't cry, but I did hug him back, burying my face in the crook of his neck.
