Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Will you do anything to survive?

Again, I gasped. My whole body trembling in fear as I remember what happened to me… The memories of being torn apart by the horde of zombies flooded back with terrifying clarity. My breath came in ragged gasps, my body trembling uncontrollably with each step.

"Hey, you okay?" Victor whispered as we are again currently going down the stairs Victor's whispered concern brought me back to the present, but the fear still gripped me tightly. "I'm fine," I managed to say, though my voice wavered with lingering shock. I forced myself to take deep breaths, trying to steady my nerves and push the gruesome images from my mind.

The descent felt like an eternity, each step a reminder of the horror I had endured. But as we reached the ground floor, a sense of determination began to replace the fear. I couldn't let myself be paralyzed by what happened. We had a mission to complete, and I needed to stay focused.

With each breath, I regained a bit of composure. The adrenaline fueled my resolve, and I straightened my posture, ready to face what will happen.

As we continued to walk towards the storage room, I gathered my thoughts for a new plan. But no matter what I think, it's either we're gonna get killed or the horde of zombies will tear us apart.

I let out a sighed, I guess I have no choice. "Hey…" I whispered

"Hmmm?" Victor said as he stopped to listen to me, "What is it?" He asked

I told him my plan, he find it weird at first. But since he didn't see anything to my merit he agreed. And so we approached the storage room, we didn't tell his wife about the plan.

We got to the storage room, "This is where we store our supplies. We need to get what we need quickly and leave," Elena instructed, her voice urgent.

Victor and I look at each other, with a nod we proceed with the plan. Victor open the door, but as soon as he opened it he immediately hide together with his wife behind the wall.

As predicted, the man immediately pointed his handgun towards the open space. "Huh?" He find it weird why is there no one outside? He thought

However he was wrong, he let his guard down that's the moment I strike. Waiting to the side of the wall, then immediately sneak up keeping low and went to stab his chin with the screwdriver with my right hand.

Then I immediately took out the handgun from his hand using my right hand, and kick him down. As I run and stab him in the eye with the metal pipe I was holding to my left hand.

"Hah… hah… hah…" I gasped for air, as I… finally killed him. I look at my hands, trembling in fear.

"What… have you done?" Elena asked, couldn't believe that I killed a human.

Victor and I exchanged a tense glance, silently confirming our plan. With a nod, Victor cautiously opened the door, and he pull Elena immediately as they took cover behind the wall.

As expected, the man inside reacted swiftly, aiming his handgun towards the open doorway. "Huh?" he muttered, puzzled by the absence of any immediate threat.

He let his guard down that's the moment I strike, Positioned beside the wall, I kept low and swiftly lunged forward, driving the screwdriver using my right hand into his chin with precision. As he staggered back in shock, Using my right hand I disarmed him of his handgun and with a deft maneuver delivering a forceful kick, sending him sprawling to the ground.

With adrenaline coursing through my veins, I closed the distance to him as I run and swiftly drove the metal pipe I was holding in my left hand into his eye, ending his threat. The gravity of my actions hit me as I gasped for air, trembling with a mixture of fear and adrenaline.

Looking at my hands, trembling. Elena's voice broke through the aftermath of the struggle, her disbelief echoing my own inner turmoil. "What have you done?" she asked, her eyes wide with shock and disbelief at the sudden violence.

Elena's voice hung heavy in the tense air, her disbelief mirroring my own shock at what had just transpired. As the adrenaline rush began to ebb, the gravity of my actions sank in deeper. I stumbled back, dropping the bloodied tools I had used in the struggle.

"I... I had to," I stammered, trying to justify my actions even to myself. "He would have killed us... we had no choice."

"He was gonna kill us!? How do you know that!? He was just scared! Trying to protect himself!" Elena's voice cracked as she shouted, her emotions raw after witnessing the violent act that had just unfolded, especially since the man I had killed was one of her workmates.

"Stop!" Victor's voice cut through the tension, his tone firm as he stepped in between us. "We don't want the horde of zombies running towards us, right? Then let's stop this fighting. We'll talk about this later, after we're done."

Elena clicked her tongue in frustration but eventually relented, realizing the urgency of the situation.

Victor distributed bags to each of us, and we quickly filled them with the necessary medicines and medical tools. Elena focused on gathering equipment that would be essential for our survival.

The air was heavy with unspoken tension as we worked swiftly, aware that every second counted in this unforgiving world filled with dangers at every turn.

After what felt like an eternity, we finished gathering the supplies. "There's a backdoor in the clinic. We could use that to escape," Elena suggested, her voice tinged with urgency.

We nodded in agreement and made our way to the backdoor. However, as we approached, we spotted a lone zombie standing near the door. This zombie was wearing a SWAT uniform and gear.

I couldn't help but smile. "Jackpot," I muttered softly, dropping my bag and whistling to get the zombie's attention.

"What are you doing!?" Elena whispered urgently, clearly alarmed.

"Let him be, Elena," Victor intervened, his voice calm yet authoritative.

The zombie noticed me and charged towards me. With practiced precision, I aimed and stabbed its eye with the metal pipe, swiftly killing it.

"You... monster," Elena muttered with disgust as she watched me take the gear, equipment, and weapons from the fallen SWAT zombie.

"You can call me whatever you want, but this is the reality of the world now," I replied calmly, packing the gear into my backpack.

"Let's not waste time arguing. We need to go," Victor urged, sensing the tension in the air.

As Victor opened the door, we were greeted by a chilling sight—a horde of zombies waiting just outside. These zombies were once the staff of the clinic, along with some remnants of the SWAT team, and even an armored truck.

"Oh, no..." Victor muttered under his breath, his expression grave. "Run!" he shouted urgently, sensing the imminent danger as the horde of zombies surged towards us. "To the storage room!"

With panic rising, we sprinted back towards the storage room, adrenaline coursing through our veins as we tried to outpace the advancing undead.

As we rushed towards the storage room, the sound of groans and shuffling feet grew louder behind us. The horde was gaining ground, their hungry moans echoing in the hallway. We reached the storage room and slammed the door shut, hoping it would hold against the impending onslaught.

Inside, we caught our breath, the tension thick in the air. "Is everyone okay?" Victor asked, scanning our group for any injuries.

"I think we're fine," I replied, still trying to process the chaotic turn of events.

Elena leaned against the wall, her face pale with shock. "That was too close," she whispered, her eyes wide with fear.

"We need to come up with a plan," Victor said, his voice determined. "We can't stay here forever, and we can't risk facing that horde head-on."

I nodded in agreement, my mind racing with possibilities. Then, our gaze fell upon the lifeless body of the man I had killed in the storage room.

Victor's eyes hardened with determination as he retrieved a knife from his belt. "Hey, are you serious!?" I exclaimed, shocked by his actions.

"Do we have any other choice?" Victor replied, his voice grim with urgency.

"Honey, what are you doing?" Elena's voice trembled with disbelief.

"Elena, we need to do this to survive," Victor said firmly, his hands steady as he prepared to cut open the corpse.

"But this is insane! You can't just kill a human and spill his guts out!" Elena's protests grew louder, filled with desperation.

"We don't have a choice," Victor reiterated, his gaze unwavering as he began to spread the blood and innards from the corpse onto his clothes. I reluctantly followed suit, knowing that our lives depended on this desperate ploy.

Outside, the sound of banging on the door grew louder as the horde of zombies closed in. "Elena!" Victor's voice rang out in urgency, urging her to act quickly.

"DAMMIT!" Elena's frustration boiled over, and she joined us in the gruesome task, her hands shaking with fear and revulsion.

As we coated ourselves in the blood and viscera of the dead man, I couldn't help but feel a sense of surreal horror. This was the lengths we were willing to go to in order to survive in this nightmarish world overrun by the undead.
