Chapter 3 - Pursuit of danger

It was but a moment of happiness, enough to fuel my heart lifetimes over. But that's all it was, a moment of happiness. Loud crashing ascended the mountain followed by a rush of heat enough to slightly the tip of my nose. I quickly rub my nose as another loud crash comes from below the mountain although this time, I didn't need a sound cue to know what was happening. A huge dome of fire covered a large area at the bottom of the mountain as bloodcurdling screams echoed up the mountain.

I gripped the girls arm tight causing her to feel a jolt of pain. "Sorry, we have to run again!" I yell as I pull her along with me down the opposite side of the mountain, away from all the fighting. We weren't running for long before Flora tripped hitting the ground with a thud, it didn't take longer than a second before I dragged her back to her feet to resume our running. The girl was constantly spitting and rubbing her face to get the mud off her. It wasn't long now till we were at the bottom.

It was my mistake; I made the wrong decision and the only one I could blame was me. I couldn't blame the girl who I made out to be mute, or the birds flying in the same direction to avoid the ongoing battle, no, I was at fault. I had dragged us to a stealth unit that was approaching from the other side of the mountain to take advantage of the ongoing fight between the two sides. The troops had seen us and approached with rapid movement up to our position. My brain moves from thought to thought, struggling to process the current situation I find myself in. Do I protect the girl? How will I get away? Is it even possible to escape with another person in tow? The Flame, will it guide me? The Flame...Yes, the Flame will lead me out of this, that's right, the only thing I ever needed was this Flame. Not a moment had passed before I let go of the girl before conjuring up the Flame with the palm of my hand, the fire rose slow, burning the skin of hand causing it to blister and burst, the pain was unimaginable, it was the first time this had happened since I began my journey to the border, but its fine, the Flame, it'll guide me.

Or so I thought, the Flame this time wasn't used for guidance, it became a magical projectile as my arm was forced to extend out straight on front of me. I gripped my arm attempting to hold back the Flame, my efforts though, were for nothing as the Flame shot forward at such an incredible speed that the purple was being left behind. The Flame hit its target dropping one of the soldiers as the body became enshrouded in the Purple Flame burning completely to dust moments later. The surrounding soldiers stared in shock before a single soldier rushed towards both me and the girl, I grabbed the girl and dropped to the ground with my body positioned to protect her from harm.

This mattered not, the soldier grabbed me by the neck sending multiple shocks straight into my brain causing my body to shut down, my sight went slowly went black as I saw the girl reach for my hand, I instinctively reach out to her too but ultimately my mind had shut off. I had finally awoken, my legs tied up and my hands cuffed behind my back.

"What have you done..." I asked the person standing in front of me, my voice shaky on the verge of crying. I looked around waiting for a response, my surroundings look to be that of a tent. A breeze blows open the tents cover showing the dark clouds and nearby rainfall. The person standing in front of me turns around, a large scar adorns her face, long black hair, dark blue eyes that make me feel like my body is going to freeze over, a black uniform with a red badge marked with unreadable symbols, her chest pushed against the tight fabric slightly highlighting her bust, long legs covered in black pants and black boots clearly designed for all purpose activity.

"Done with what? The girl? She's fine, my men have been ordered not to hurt anyone who's a civilian and by the looks of it she was merely just being dragged along by a stupid boy who couldn't find his way hmmm?" The tall soldier lady walks over to me slowly, a slight limp in her stride before she reaches me and kneels down to grip my shirt. She pulls me up off the ground, my legs dangling in the air as she pulls me face to face with her, her stare is sharp and intense. "Now, wanna tell me why that little flame of yours is fucking purple? 'cause tell ya this, that ain't fucking normal, no documented cases of purple magic has been used outside the Aster family. So, I'll ask you one more fucking time, what's with the purple shit?" The words she spoke were harsh yet her tone was calm and her voice was low, maybe this was just a lackluster attempt at getting me to speak up, but it became evident rather quickly that not even I knew why I could do certain things.

"I...I don't know, I...I was separated from my family during a blast, rubble and dirt fell from the ceiling and I was pushed away too the other side by my mother then the rest after is...blank? I just, I just can't remember" tears began to fall from my eyes, my cheeks had begun to glisten, my Mother, Father, what had happened to them, did they make it out, were they crushed by the debris? there was too many unanswered questions that were going to stay unanswered for a very long time.
