Chereads / Marvel: Starting in Knowhere / Chapter 22 - A MOMENT WITH FIONA

Chapter 22 - A MOMENT WITH FIONA

I took Fiona to the best pastry shop on Knowhere, and to say it was expensive would be an understatement, but I think it's worth the cost... The taste was just awesome, but was it better than the donuts from Earth? Hell no, there were no parlor donuts compared to the donuts and pastries made on Earth.

We hung out, talked a bit, and enjoyed the moment together. Talking to her, it almost seems as though our past arguments never happened. After all, it was only a stupid dispute over misunderstandings. We walked through the marketplace and stalls selling a bunch of various trinkets, spices, and alien vegetables.

Fiona has already emptied that big box of donuts. She ate all 12 of them in like what... Less than thirty minutes. I have no idea how the heck she managed to do that. Perhaps being an alien does increase their body metabolism or something.

"What?" She raised an eyebrow when she saw my expression and noticed me staring at her.

"How did you eat all 12 of them in less than 30 minutes?" I asked with an astonished and shocked expression on my face.

"Practice. Long story."

"How so?"

"No idea. Not important. Now let's grab a couple of drinks, I know a place nearby... They have great stuff," She grabbed me by the wrist and started pulling me in the direction, where she wanted to take us. I smiled, didn't bother to struggle, and followed her.

I guess, she's just a foodie. But drinking now? It isn't even the time for a drink. Wtf is she thinking?

A few minutes after we left the market, Fiona pulled me towards a cafe. There she chose a large milkshake with some kind of red berries for her and looked toward me, "Pick your poison." She signaled at the display glass, filled with a variety of delicious-looking drinks, which looked good to me.

"Wait! You were talking about milkshakes when you said 'drinks'?" I asked, just wanting to make sure that she didn't plan to take me into one of those bars showing on the posters that I saw when I was walking around after this.

"Duh! You thought I would take you to a bar? You think I'm that insane to drink in the middle of the day? Besides, I don't drink except for very rare occasions," She rolled her eyes and rolled her eyes at me with a silly smile before sipping the milkshake in her hands.

"I see. I'm good. Not hungry," I swiped the card on the payment terminal on the counter, making it light up green to accept.

"Hey, why did you pay?" She questioned with a cute pout while biting the tip of a red straw sticking from the large cup in her hand. It felt a bit wrong, and a small naughty voice inside of me was already telling me to attack and push her against the wall behind us and rip all those clothes off while devouring her body... Fuck, focus!

"Do I need a reason to treat my date?" I replied while ignoring my internal perverted voices as they cheered and were whispering lewd fantasies to me... Fuck! Stop it, horny little voices.

"Da-Date?!" Fiona exclaimed in surprise and then realized that she had shouted in a high-pitched tone while I was just standing in front of her with a small teasing grin on my face and eyes filled with delight as I looked at her beautiful eyes. "Wipe that smile off your face!" She quickly recovered, "This is just a friendly stroll, nothing else, got it?"

"Haha... Yeah, I got it. Don't want any rumors spreading like wildfire in the academy, right? Fiona finally got a boyfriend~ Oh my God! How is she going to bring him home and introduce him to her folks?! Look! That student she was hanging out with is her new boyfriend. My, how adorable! But, how did Fiona get such a handsome boy? Wasn't she a loner and always angry or mad at something..."

As I finished reciting and mimicking various exaggerated comments with an incredibly shrill tone, acting as if I was a high-school gossip-loving b*tch.

"Hmph, stop!" Fiona turned her face aside in shame, unable to even look into my face and simply said, "It's not like I want to introduce you or anyone else as my lover or boyfriend to others..."

We walked out of the shop while continuing our conversation. Man, it's so fun to tease her. The serious and tough Fiona is blushing and acting so shy, hahaha... It is so funny watching her act so adorable in embarrassment.

"Yeah, I understand."

"You do?" Fiona asked with a relieved smile and turned back to me while nodding slightly, and I responded in a confident tone as we started strolling around once more.

"Yeah, of course, I get it. You can't possibly introduce someone stronger than you to your family as your boyfriend... I mean, you got an image to maintain, right?" I teased her even further with a cunning and mischievous smirk while holding my lips as if trying my best to prevent my laughter from erupting.

"Phew!" She took a deep breath and calmed down her nerves, "Not gonna fall for that trick again. I've learned to control my anger." She said with a smile that would make anyone think five times before bothering her again because even someone as bold and daring as me felt a bit reluctant to dare push her too far in fear of retaliation. It was as if she was telling me, one more nonsense and you would lie in the next alley with a hole in your head!

"Damn! I thought it would work and I would get a reaction out of you. Seesh... Don't tell me you took those anger management classes they always offer, do you?" I said jokingly.

"You think I need anger management therapy after spending all that training session with you?" Fiona's right eyebrow rose in doubt.

"What did I do?" I was genuinely shocked. Me... Make Fiona angry? Hell yes, I did it so many times I lost count after the hundredth time.

"Yeah, yeah, keep that up, jackass. As I would waste money and go take that course. By the way... What you said about 'date'... You serious or just, you know, joking?" She looked into my eyes, searching for something in them... Possibly for answers, I assume.

"Depends..." I evaded the question and countered with a response that could mean anything, whether it's yes, no, or something entirely different.

"Ugh, don't be that vague, and just... You know. Seriously," She wanted to ask again with that word seriously at the end.

"I'm planning to move to Xander," I stopped in my tracks, preventing her from pushing the topic further.

"Why?!" Fiona also stopped when I did so.

"Just need a change, I guess. After everything that happened... I almost got myself killed while saving Gamora. I was this close..." I pinched my finger, putting only a tiny little space between my index finger and the thumb. "I was this close to death. I wasn't afraid back then... I remember, slicing off those bastards with a smile, but now that I think about it... Yeah, I guess, I'm kinda afraid. If I wasn't lucky, then... Haha. Man, it's so embarrassing. You must be thinking, he's acting all tough and all but inside just a scared little man."

"..." Fiona remained silent for a moment before speaking, "Only fools don't get scared after a life-and-death battle. I had a similar thing happen... Well, not quite similar, but close. I won't tell you the details but after that... Yeah. I was shaken and became slightly paranoid. I decided to not make any friends and raised a wall around me. But you..."

She lightly punched my chest with a smile, "You jackass shattered that wall. Hah, and I couldn't even be mad at you. Thanks to you, I got past my trauma. I still have a long way to go, but yeah. I sleep properly at night and my mom says, I smile more nowadays, even Dad has noticed, and told me to go out and make friends. Imagine that, haha."

"Wow! I did all that?!" I was really surprised. Fiona had been known in the academy for having an explosive temper that would force anyone to avoid her just to prevent a random violent confrontation and after going through her traumatic incident she became that much more fearsome to the point she almost never smiled and always looked tense and worried.

Now after getting to know the real person and seeing how sweet she could be...

"To answer your question, yeah, I'd like to really date you. But you know I'll be on Xander and you here..." I rubbed the back of my head sheepishly after managing to spit out the words I was finding so hard to speak of. A long-distance relationship is not a thing for me, at least that's what I think.

"Well... I'm actually from Xander. I'm here for... You know... Change of scene and all that. My therapist said I needed a vacation and a change in environment, so here I am, going to the academy, shooting in the range all day, and eating lots of donuts," Fiona revealed with a simple and nonchalant expression on her face as if it was something trivial. She then emptied the milkshake pack and threw it in the garbage can near us. "Maybe, I'll go back home. It's been a while since I met my parents and I miss them. Holographic calls are good, but you know... Maybe I just miss home."
