With a fierce look, Raphael leaped to his feet, his blue eyes locked onto Amaya's.
He took a step toward her and muttered the word.
Mate.
He had his head turned toward the sky and was howling loudly in the air.Was this how Raphael was going to approach girls now? The other students appeared unaffected by the howls and continued to concentrate on their food.
The same individuals who were taken aback and worried when Kailan chose to take a seat here were ignoring the awkward situation.
While continuing to mutter the same word, Raphael ran to embrace Amaya tightly.
"Mate...Mate...finally, I found you."
Mate? Was she a close friend? Perhaps he is excited to see Amaya because she was a long-lost friend, but does he really need to howl like that?
Raphael gave her the tightest hug their bodies would permit, causing Amaya to wince in pain. She tried to yank him away, most likely due to breathlessness.
"Did I hurt you, mate? I am so sorry." Gently putting his arms around her waist, Raphael made me furrow my brow because, for the first time in my memory, my dramatic brother seemed kind and concerned to a girl who was not me.
It seemed he was really fond of her.Perhaps his early crush or love interest. In any case, I was happy to have Amaya in the family.
"Congratulations, Maya," Shimmer said, joyfully giving her friend a hug without showing her teeth.
When does she ever smile?
"Kailan, what brings you to the Omega's table?" A furious expression swiftly replaced the once-happy one.
Seated beside him on the seat that Raphael had hauled out for her, Amaya set her bag down on the table.
"Amaya!!!!" Shimmer was furious enough to yell at the top of her lungs—in fact, she had called her by name.
"With a sour expression and a puckered mouth, Amaya apologized sincerely to Shimmer but I have to sit with my mate."
Shimmer. She was not at all fit for that name; it was too harsh an adjective to apply to her. She ought to have been referred to as anger or grumper.
She was clearly still in shock, or rather, what I like to call completely flabbergasted Gobsmackedness, because she was still standing there looking shocked and stunned and had her mouth hanging open.
"Calm down, Shim, it is just for a while until Ashira settles down," Kailan said with a sigh.
Shim. He called the impolite girl by a nickname, which demonstrated how close they were.
Hiss.
I did not understand why he had not given me a nickname since we first met, but his concern for Shimmer really hurt my feelings.
"Kailan recently got to know you, Ashira. He must have known Shimmer for a very long time." Once more, my conscience was putting me in my place.
Well, whatever!
My brothers gave me affectionate and unique nicknames, so it was not depressing to not hear Kailan use one.
"Until you believe it, tell yourself a million times over!"There was a hint of mockery in the voice I heard in my head.
Aargh!!!! Why in the world does this thing keep talking to me in my head?
Shimmer glanced in my direction as I bit into some steak fragments while keeping my eyes glued to my plate.
She scoffingly muttered, "Human..." before abandoning the table, heartbroken and furious.
As if I were not a human, why were they all calling me that? Was not Shimmer also a human?
"You are really beautiful," Amaya said with a smile as she placed a rose flower next to me that I had no idea she had.
I replied, "Thank you," pondering how a girl could be simultaneously so sweet, graceful, and natural. I am delighted Raphael finds her endearing, and I believe our friendship could work. We truly do share a great deal of similarities.
My gaze strayed to Kailan before focusing intently on Amaya. These two bore an eerie resemblance to one another; they appeared more like siblings than friends.
"Are you both related?" I could not contain my curiosity "Like by blood relation."
Kailan stated bluntly, "We are twins," as if he did not think much of their relationship, but I could tell he cared deeply for Amaya. Placing the empty glass at the end of the table in front of his sister, he filled it with the fantasy choice yoghurt.
She winked at him and said, "Thanks, starfish," as she took a sip of the yoghurt.
Starfish. She was calling her brother, a dimwitted individual.
*Chuckle* They were fairly similar and close.
My attention was drawn to the siren's loud blare. The siren was this loud—why the fudge? The sound nearly killed me!
Oh my goodness! The siren started blaring louder than before, so I had to cover my ears with my palms to at least lessen the next blare.
Fear gripped every student; some even abandoned their stuff and fled the classroom as if a monster were on the way.
My friends Kailan and the others seated at the same table as me were furiously packing their belongings.
Raphael was saying, "Ashira, get up, we have to go now!" while his face was as pale as a ghost. Raphael was not even fidgety after Jayden's surgery the last time he looked this scared, which was a few days ago when I was kidnapped.
Hold up! Was the town under attack by the wolves she had seen earlier that day?
Her wrists were grabbed by someone, and they dragged her along. Amaya, she surmised.
A few people were gathered in groups of twos and threes talking about what seemed to be a hot topic outside the cafeteria where we were all gathered.
The once-quiet school grounds abruptly took on the energy of a marketplace. Muffled sounds and whispers surrounded me.
What is happening?" Still wondering why we were all staring at the massive black gate as though the angel of power was going to appear through it, I questioned a tense Anita.
Her words were, "The Amazons are here."
The Amazons. What the fuck were they, who the hell was that, and why in the world was everyone shaking as if the rapture was about to happen?
"Oh my gosh!" Shimmer was coming toward us with excitement. She was giggling with delight and staring at the gate, expecting whatever the Amazons might be. "I can not believe the Amazons are here," she exclaimed.
When Shimmer smiled, her teeth were perfectly aligned and as white as snow, and the Amazons forced her to show them off.
Curious to see what was making Shimmer smile widely and the students tremble, Ashira narrowed her eyes and peered at the wide open gate.
Abruptly, the air was filled with the squealing of tires and loud horns. Three large, brightly colored motorcycles roared into the compound.
All of them were bowed down, heads nearly touching the floor. They were bowing down to these people while standing up.
I sensed Amaya's icy, unsteady hand attempting to pull me down.
With a crisp voice, she said, "Ashira, bow down."
With my eyes still on the riders, I chose to ignore her. They proudly approached her after taking off their helmets.
