The moon cast its pale glow over the serene scene as Thane sat before the pond of mysterious green liquid, methodically reapplying a coating of poison to the tip of his spear. His movements were precise, his demeanor calm, as if he had done this countless times before. As he worked, a tranquil whistle escaped his lips, blending with the quiet night air. In this moment of stillness, he couldn't help but entertain the thought that soon, all of this would hopefully be over.
Despite the availability of more efficient methods to deal with the monsters, such as draining the pond or luring them into traps, Thane opted to confront any remaining creatures directly. There were several reasons behind his decision.
Firstly, he saw it as an opportunity to gain valuable combat experience against these creatures. Secondly, a deep-seated anger stirred within him, subtly directing his actions as he sought retribution against Bead, the others and for his own predicament in this strange world. But above all, Thane believed he was ready for the challenge, confident in his preparations and abilities to face whatever dangers lay ahead.
As Thane checked the position of the moon once more, he estimated that only about ten minutes of the night remained. Aware that the creatures would soon descend upon him in full force, he brought his gaze down from the celestial bodies to survey his surroundings.
In the distance, he could discern approximately ten of the monsters lurking amidst the trees, their movements slow and deliberate. Trusting his instincts, Thane could sense an additional fifteen creatures hiding nearby, their presence palpable in the air. Despite their hesitation, he knew they wouldn't remain still for long.
Rising to his feet, Thane drove the base of his spear into the ground with a resolute thud. After a brief pause, he extended his hand in a beckoning gesture toward the creatures. Whether they comprehended his intent or not, one of the smaller monsters was nudged out of its hiding place by its companions. Recoiling momentarily, it hesitated before tentatively inching towards Thane. Intrigued by the creatures' behavior, Thane observed with keen interest as the creature cautiously approached him.
As the creature drew closer, Thane couldn't help but draw a parallel to a gladiator facing a wild beast, with unseen spectators egging on the confrontation. Yet, in this scenario, Thane realized he was the perceived beast. Chuckling softly at the irony of it all, he noticed the clicking noises in the distance growing louder, urging their brethren to cease their timidity.
In the next moment, the creature gathered its courage and dashed toward Thane, its appendages outstretched as if ready to seize him at any moment. Just as it seemed on the verge of reaching him, Thane swiftly spun around on his left heel, completing a 180-degree turn. Caught off guard by Thane's sudden movement, the creature, propelled by its own momentum, couldn't halt its charge. As it lunged past Thane, he deftly extended one leg, causing the creature to stumble and fall.
Glancing around, Thane observed that none of the other creatures had budged from their positions. Turning back to the creature he had just tripped, he flashed a wide smile before taunting, "Seems like your friends are eager to see what I'm made of. Tough luck for you, hahaha." His laughter tapered off as the scene before him evoked memories of his own initial encounter in this enigmatic realm, mirroring the current situation. Although unintentionally, Thane had utilized Bead to gain insights into the creatures. Soon, the smile vanished, replaced by a sinister frown.
In a cold, determined tone, Thane uttered, "I was planning to have some fun, but you've ruined my mood." Retrieving his spear from the ground with purposeful strides, he approached the struggling monster. As it turned to face him, the spear's tip found its mark, piercing the creature's black eyeball. A shriek erupted from its eerie mouth, quickly stifled by an object thrown inside.
In one swift motion, Thane retrieved his spear from the monster's eye and drove its sharp edge straight under its chin. The spear tip punctured through the top of the creature's head, and releasing his grip, Thane let the monster fall. However, the spear acted as a stabilizer, keeping the creature upright. Helpless and immobilized, the monster's lower jaw began to bubble. It gazed at Thane, seemingly pleading for mercy. Disdainfully, Thane spat in its direction and kicked the bottom of his spear, causing the creature to collapse as its stability was compromised. Retrieving his spear once more, Thane waited a few moments before the creature's entire body exploded in a faint flash.
Turning back to the surrounding forest, Thane bellowed at the top of his lungs in anger, "IS THAT ALL YOU'VE GOT?! SHOW ME WHY YOU'RE THE KINGS OF THIS PLACE!" His words echoed through the silent night, met only by the quiet rustle of leaves and the distant clicking noises of the creatures. Though they remained still in the distance, Thane sensed their growing agitation, their communication evident in the increasing intensity of their clicks. He knew it wouldn't be long before they were forced into action, as he had effectively blocked their only means of safety during the daytime.
After a short while, all the remaining monsters emerged from the surrounding forest into the open clearing where Thane stood. He estimated there were about 24 creatures left, assuming no other stragglers lurked nearby. The monsters began to encircle Thane and the pond, closing in on him from all sides. One of the creatures edged closer to the pond on the opposite side, away from where Thane stood. Noticing this, Thane retrieved another pouch from his belt and tossed it a short distance away onto some dry bushes he had arranged. In mere moments, the entire perimeter of the pond was engulfed in a blazing wall of flames.
As the creatures redirected their attention towards Thane, their hissing grew louder, and their eyes started glowing red. The mesmerizing hue momentarily stunned Thane, but he quickly shook his head to clear away the hypnotic effect. Sensing that their intended effect hadn't taken hold, the creatures appeared even more cautious, but they were pressed for time. In the next moment, spurred by a loud hiss from the largest monster among them, the others followed suit, charging at full force towards Thane, driven by a singular intent to eliminate the creature that had been a thorn in their side for so long, a situation familiar to Thane.
Amidst the 24 monsters, not all could engage Thane simultaneously. This played to his advantage; his back was clear, shielded by a wall of flames. He had strategically placed a few additional spears at his feet and scattered a couple of different pouches on the ground. Thane felt more than confident facing these remaining creatures. His confidence was fueled by a burning rage towards the creatures, blending with his unwavering determination.
As the creatures closed in, three approached from different angles. Thane swiftly launched one of his spears directly into the head of one monster. Simultaneously, he lifted his foot, tossing a spear from the ground into his hand, which he promptly hurled towards another assailant. With only one opponent remaining in front of him, Thane remained calm. He grabbed about five pouches from his belt and flung them at monsters further away before refocusing his attention on the creature in front of him.
In a seamless motion, Thane retrieved a handful of poison spikes, hurling them into the face and body of the approaching creature, which halted abruptly, shrieking out in pain. Capitalizing on the moment, Thane swiftly retrieved his spears from the earlier fallen monsters. As he did, he tossed a pouch into each of the holes left by his spears, adding another layer of chaos. With his momentum building, Thane delivered a powerful kick to the creature, causing it to tumble backward into the ones behind it before repeating the action with another nearby monster. Without dwelling on the ones he had just kicked, Thane swiftly redirected his focus to the creature directly in front of him, launching one of the two spears now in his hands at it while it was still recovering from the earlier poison.
At this time deafening sounds began appearing as the contents of the pouches began to react, causing explosions to happen all around thane, this sight which wouldn't have been out of place in hell, with flames in every direction in a strange way excited Thane.

Thane took a moment to catch his breath, surveying the aftermath of the destruction and the scattered remains of the many creatures around him. As he absorbed the sight, he felt some tension release. Glancing around, he noticed flames scattered about and only one creature remaining—the new leader of the final monsters. By now, it had increased its size by about 50%, making it roughly twice the size of Thane.
Strategically, it had observed its comrades fall to Thane's tricks while it consumed their crystals, enhancing its own strength. Thane had witnessed this, but he hadn't had the opportunity to confront the creature as he was besieged by the others. Glancing back up at the sky, he knew it would only be a short time before the first rays of light broke through. When Thane returned his gaze to the ground, his eyes locked with those of the remaining monster.
Without exchanging a word, they began to slowly advance towards each other. As they did, Thane flicked some monster gunk off his only remaining spear, as all the others had already snapped or been damaged beyond use. With a roar from both of them, they charged at each other.
Despite the creature towering over Thane, it quickly became apparent who had the advantage. In just a few short moments after they made contact, Thane slid underneath the creature, thrusting his spear right through its head. However, the monster grabbed the spear and ripped it out of its chin, chunks of black monster goop following along.
After throwing Thane's spear into the flames, the monster returned to him with a creepy smile, as if challenging him with a silent question: "What are you going to do now?" It had witnessed Thane exhaust all his tools on its brethren, and with no supplies left, what could this prey possibly do without its tricks? The monster pondered to itself.
Remaining unfazed, Thane issued another silent challenge to the monster, his outstretched hand beckoning it to come closer. Whether it understood his intentions or not, the creature seemed to heed Thane's gesture as it charged towards him once more. With no supplies left, Thane assumed a martial arts position, waiting for the creature to draw near.
As the creature approached, Thane prepared himself. When it was within striking distance, the monster lunged at him, its appendage aimed at Thane's head. With lightning reflexes, Thane sidestepped the attack, grabbing the creature's extended limb. Using the momentum of its charge against it, Thane executed a judo move, flipping the creature onto its back with a powerful throw.
For a moment, the creature remained motionless on the ground, as if struggling to comprehend the events that had unfolded. However, Thane wasted no time. Picking up two large pieces of flaming debri in both of his hands, the scent of his own flesh cooking wafting through the air, but he couldn't care less. As Thane approached the downed creature with 2 flaming fists, it seemed to sense his approach causing the creature to snap out of its confusion.
However, it was too late for the creature to react. Thane, with his legs had mounted onto the creature constricting its limbs and with both fists ablaze, began hurtling relentless blows onto its body and face. As it attempted to throw Thane off, he further increased his grip
began to rain down punches on its face and body. Each blow was excruciatingly painful for both himself and the creature, which began to shriek under the relentless assault.
Unable to dislodge the creature from itself, the monster's shrieks grew increasingly faint. Soon, the only sounds that pierced the air were the crackling of flames and the thud of flesh being pounded relentlessly. Before long the first light of day broke through the night and the creature below the exhausted Thane began to turn to dust leaving behind the largest crystal he had seen yet.
