Veritas who still had two blades aimed at him thought logically for a moment.
The situation could still be salvaged if he just explained the malfunction!
Veritas turned his head to look at Clive who wore a look of deep thought.
"Headmaster! I think the glove made a mistake I never went through an awakening, nor would I dare hide anything from you" Veritas hurriedly explained.
The purpled haired man shook his head with an indifferent expression "The glove doesn't make mistakes"
"Well it must have this time!" Veritas was desperately trying to defend himself
Clive, who looked at Veritas with intense focus finally spoke "Stand down, I think I understand what's happening"
The guards lowered their swords without question, although they didn't put it back in their sheaths
Veritas gave a sigh of relief as the tension in the room dissipated, his job might not be lost after all.
"The glove doesn't seem to be working at the moment but I will happily retake the test once the problems are all sorted out" Veritas hurriedly spoke as he didn't want this incident to put off his potential employer.
Clive shook his head "no that's not it" he stood up and took a book out of one of the bookshelves "although rare, there are some people who were bestowed a Virtue that never activated itself and remained dormant inside there bodies. Clive spoke as he flipped through the pages.
So the glove didn't malfunction…..Veritas felt his heart sink. although people would have been ecstatic to find out they were a champion, the headmaster had already said that it was dormant. What's the point of a Virtue that couldn't be used!
And what's more the chances of him being hired had dropped significantly, although the Clive had said his Virtue was dormant, they could never be 100% sure that he wasn't lying. In short Veritas was an unnecessary risk.
"Veritas, I'm sorry but I can no longer consider you for the janitorial position" Clive said as his face was hidden behind the book
Those words were like a crushing blow to Veritas, as this was the only job that would accept someone with little education and work experience.
Just as Veritas thought his life was over, Clive spoke once again
"But if you want I can consider enrolling you into the academy"
What?
Veritas couldn't believe what he was hearing as he looked up at the grandmaster in shock
"You are lucky that you met me young man as I have many books of knowledge that others would find useless, I can preform a ritual to forcibly awaken your Virtue" Clive said with a warm smile on his face.
Veritas felt as though he had a new path open ahead of him. If the headmaster could awaken his Virtue he could become a Champion!
Granted he didn't know what champions actually did once they graduated but that was irrelevant for now.
Champions were often in high positions of power!
"If you could do that for me I would be very thankful!" Veritas bowed with a huge smile on his face
Clive chuckled "Of course, if no virtue gets awakened then we will have to detain you in the dungeon for further investigation"
Veritas's smile froze on his face as he nervously laughed "I hope it doesn't come to that"
Clive smiled and lead Veritas into a room that hidden behind a bookshelf. Inside the room was a circle drawn on the floor and drawn inside the circle were a bunch of seemingly random symbols.
When Clive bent down and touched the circle however, the runes immediately moved and formed themselves into lines around the outer rim of the circle.
"I've prepared the ritual now all you have to due his step inside and it will activate" Clive stepped aside and gestured Veritas to step inside the circle
Veritas, filled with great anticipation stepped inside the circle. It wasn't like he had much of a future left if this didn't work.
After a few seconds in the circle nothing happened. Veritas was just imagining the rest of his life in a cell when something unexpected happened.
Everything around him started to Accelerate at impossible speeds.
