Chapter 76 - Chapter 9 Hold the gate

The eerie silence ruled the room as a single man stood above the corpses of 4 men that he didn't know. There was no guilt or regret on his face because this was the fate of the man who would spend their time on the battlefield whether they were inside the gates or not. The warm cozy clothes wouldn't keep them warm for a long time for death was imminent.

" The gate is linked to this thing. If I sabotage this, the gates will be opened until they fix it."

Halfdan didn't hesitate to slash the thing with his sword as the hiss of the broken metal reached his ears.

The once stood tall gate, crumbling down to the ground as the thunderous sound of its crush, woke the guards from their sweet dreams.

" Intruders! Intruders!"

They immediately ran to the bell with their all might, ringing it with their everything but it was too late.

The mighty cavalry consisted of brave Vikings and Knights entered the gates in a blink of an eye while holding their flags in their hand with a proud expression.

" Men, take control of the gate and rush to the nearest gate. We shall dye this place with the blood of the treacherous bastards."

Magnus roared with a cold face while looking at the wall to gauge the distance between him. He saw the leading officer on the wall while grabbing pike from his back.

" Come down for me, will ya!"

He threw it with such great force that it hit the officer in the middle of his chest. Although the damage wasn't that deadly, the pike literally pushed him to the other side as he screamed with a hint of fear.

Bang*

The sound of heavy metal along with the smell of blood permeated their noses while the horses neighed with the rhythm of their hearts.

" Justin! Bastards, shoot them down!"

The guards aimed their bows at them, trying to shoot them down from the angle that they wouldn't reach but there was one thing that they didn't expect. The variable who was lurking in the shadow like a hungry ghost, jumped out from its cover.

" Agh!"

The guard fell into his blood with wide eyes, looking at Halfdan with anger in his diminishing light. The slaughter of the tip of the wall was as beautiful as the fire in the distance. The formation of the guards instantly crumbled down due to a single man who was reaping their lives.

" Die, you son of a bitch!"

One of the guards hit Halfdan with mace in his hand while trying to hit him again but Halfdan grabbed his wrist with his bloody hand. His cold eyes fell into his face, dreading the poor guard until he passed himself.

" Nobody talks to me like that."

He said with a bone-chilling tone, observing the surrounding guards. He grabbed the guard by his throat, lifting him in the air before stunned guards just to throw him to the ground to his death with sheer strength.

The loud thumping noise made already half-scared guards eat their hearts as they tried to escape from this giant of a beast. However, how could a seasoned warrior like him would allow that?

"Without their head, they are just fishes that had been waiting to be chopped on the board. No wonder, Uncle Uther said guards were worse than bandits in the mountain. They lack discipline and calm thinking."

He thought inside his head, charging through the narrow area with the tiny shield in his hand.

" You idiots! What the hell are you doing? Attack him with your number, he is alone."

One of the older guards shouted to the young guards while clashing with his sword but his strength couldn't hold a candle against Halfdan who was almost a giant compared to them.

" Do it!"

The old guard grabbed Halfdan with his hands despite dying in the process. His still warm body was still holding his ankle which was praiseworthy in Halfdan's recognition because he could perceive most of the guards were cowards. However, this old man was able to tie him down for a moment to create an opening.

" Die, you monster!"

The guards rushed toward him their spears in their hands, trying to kill him until a single arrow hit the leading man's forehead.
