The lonely night covered the light of the day, bringing forth the slumber of living beings. The shadow of the flames slowly danced in the darkness, adorning the cold stone walls with charm.
A single woman and a man stood opposite each other, facing each other with coldness. Gabriella who was defeated by her interest, finally decided to enter this church and figure out what was happening.
" Lost lamb of god, why do you seek me in this night? Do you need shelter?"
However, before he could finish his words, a cold metal drew near his neck. The dull sound of metal clashing echoed in this church, sparking fire among the duo.
" As expected you weren't a priest. Who are you and what happened to the real priest?"
Gabriella questioned his intentions with a cold face, demanding an answer from his treacherous mouth.
" Kuhaha, brilliant. As expected from the former best squire in the Corp. You perfectly saw through my disguise. So, what are you going to do? Alarm your boyfriend or seek help from others. Either way, you aren't making life out from here. Your body belongs to the church."
The cold coin fell to the floor, capturing her attention as she frowned with a serious face. There was a sword insign on the coin and she saw this before.
" You are an inquisitor. You must be here to silence us."
Gabriella felt an ache in both her heart and body. She knew she wasn't in her best condition she was nowhere powerful enough to kill him but at least she hoped he would be from Byzantine or other countries. Yet, he hailed from the same place where she gave her allegiance.
" Madame, being smart doesn't bring good fortune. You unfortunately fit in that description."
The priest didn't his facial expression while talking to her. He simply leaned on the wall, looking at her like she was some kind of an insect since he gauged her strength with a single confrontation. It was obvious that she was injured badly and still recovering.
A swift sword slash came crashing down to Gabriella who was caught off guard. She hastily dodged to her right side while drawing her sword. She then pushed the sword side with her sword while using her leg to create a space.
The inquisitor narrowed his eyes when he saw her stance because this broad space meant she was a mid-ranger fighter who excelled in strength. However, her injury made that advantage disappear and she couldn't fully harness her strength.
So, he gladly closed the gap in a single moment, trying to cleave her head. His swift sword met a barrier as he realized what she was plotting.
" You lured me to a narrow tunnel despite your sword. I don't know if it is a brave move or not but one thing is certain. You are nowhere near my strength."
He kicked her in the abdomen, plunging his sword straight. He was accustomed to slashing movement, so a piercing type of attack felt foreign to him.
" I am not that foolish."
Gabriella gritted her teeth with pain, swallowing the blood in her throat. She deliberately charged toward the inquisitor who didn't anticipate such a bold move from her who was wounded.
The blood splattered on the walls as the inquisitor looked at his chest with unbelief. The cold steel pierced through his heart as he paid his price for underestimating this young woman but this wasn't his end.
He still had one last chip to play here. His cold eyes rested upon her clothes, knowing she wouldn't survive intense heat. Hence, he smirked with a calm face, pulling the torch from the wall to her dismay.
His bloody hand pushed her back to the wall as he used his every strength to destroy her.
" Burn in purgatory, wench. Blame for your foolishness."
The single ember landed on the oil that he meticulously prepared for his departure. The roaring flames immediately engulfed the entire church, bringing destruction to its roots as the people woke up from their deep sleep.
They shouted with urgency, trying to exterminate the flames but none of them were able to do it as the flames raged on.
" Where is Gabriella? Where is she!"
Sera pushed the folks from his way, running toward the church with his all might.
