Chapter 51 - Charger 47 Halo

The cracking sound of carriage along with the hymns of the knights, decorated the empty fields as they marched toward their destination with their flags. The ultimate honor of carrying the will of their lord and owner.

" Byzantian warriors are beyond this him. We need to be careful and think deeply. If it is an ambush, we can turn back now."

Marcus was pondering whether he should turn back now or not since this was the last step. Beyond this mountain, a death was waiting for them and he wasn't confident enough to win against the best warriors of Byzantine.

" Our God will guide us, teacher. Have faith!"

Gabriella smiled gently while pointing in the direction of their country where many were waiting for the good news. This would save many lives and prevent many from dying in pointless battles. Little did she know that this would end in tragedy.

The byzantine flag was gently blown in the wind while the warriors waited for their guests to arrive. The leading cataphract calmly took off his helmet while drinking water from his pouch. His jet black hair proved that he came from the east and his tall nose was the result of his ancestor's genes.

" Lord Hasan, we saw the envoys coming from the north. The order is ready for the negotiations. Shall we build our tent to welcome them?"

Hasan looked at the knight with a calm face, stroking his beard with a deep thought. He believed this negotiation would change their lives and both countries would benefit from them, but would other countries allow that? Byzantine and Roma were both powerful empires and many took precautions against them. The Emperor of Byzantine and the Emperor of Roma were ambitious people who wanted to devour each other, yet they were ready to shake hands for greater benefit and such benefit would threaten other countries.

" Arabs, Persians, and Barbarians wouldn't allow our peace. Our peace meant we wouldn't be busy anymore and that is what they fear. They fear that our attention would directed to them."

Hasan knew their exact movements and surely they would try to sabotage this stage but he wouldn't allow such a thing.

" Emperor isn't a kind man, he is ready for conquest if anything happens to us. I think the Emperor would send his troops."

Hasan narrowed his eyes with a calm face, hesitating to imagine about direct consequences. Firmly it wasn't a good idea to meet in the open but at least they were in their territory which was good.

" I hope something won't happen to us because honestly, I am afraid that I won't be at home."

One of the warriors muttered under his breath, tightening the leather string of his helmet. The wind gently blew the thoughts of the men, quenching their worry with deep calmness.

Neigh*

The conveyance of both countries reached their destination while glancing at each other with mixed emotions.

" My name is Marcus. I am the paladin of the church. I am here with good intentions."

He extended his hand toward Hasan who wasn't making any expression. He lightly shook his hand with a polite gesture, relaxing their guards.

" Hasan. My language skills aren't good. We are here with good intentions as well. This is the order of our Emperor."

The golden scroll caught Marcus's attention. It was adorned with jewels and gold, showing the might and prestige of their country.

" I am happy to receive your order. We have to work well together in the future."

Just as they were about to exchange their scrolls, a whispering arrow landed right before them and they immediately changed their expressions.

" What is it? Is it yours?"

Hasan pulled the reigns of his horse, pulling out his scimitar from its scabbard.

" Warriors, prepare for the battle."

He then looked at Marcus who was also using his sword, it was obvious that he didn't know about this attack which meant it was from another force.

" Who are you? Why did you attack us?"

Marcus frowned coldly, looking at the masked figures which had pitch-black clothes with rags.

" We are no one. We came here with orders of our people. Retreat once again. Otherwise, you will face your end."

The man scowled coldly at them.
