Chapter 2 - Chapter 2:A very unplanned test

That morning was greeted by a generous sun, the sky speckled with birds here and there, flying their routes undisturbed, the rays from the sun, beating down lightly on the face of all its citizens, namely everything under the sun. The streams flowed majestically, the clouds slugged their way in and out of each other, as well as with each other and flowed in their celestial courses. Roan stretched his hands out wide and let out a wide mouthed yawn to greet the new day, he scratched his eyes and noticed that he must have slept a long time because his two visitors had already taken their baths and put on new clothes that the village must have gotten for them. "Oh, you guys are awake, why don't I treat you to a good breakfast before you leave". The princess and the butler both glanced over at each other and then at dear Roan. "We wouldn't want to burden you my good sir, we will procure our own meal today before we leave", the butler explained. "Nonsense, you expect to stay in my house and make your own meal, well sorry, that's not happening while I'm here". He rushed without even a second thought, or even taking a bath or even brushing his teeth. "Come on, even if you did look for your own meal, you wouldn't be able to get the best spot to eat in this whole village, Let's go" (AN: Right now, since this is only a draft, I'm going to focus on the main plot and sequence of the book, so I will improve on my description in a later time, so some actions might be missing to professional writers).

He made a beeline through the slightly thick vegetation acting as a border-zone between Roan's makeshift of a house to the main village and straight into the village. Now at this point, our dear friend Grey had no shortage of questions about the character they called Roan. First, what was he doing alone that far away from the village, on their way to and for, there were almost no traces of footsteps, the vegetation left traces of only a carriage or wagon. During their time there, there didn't seem to be any workers, now, it wasn't unusual to find a farmer on his own, but a farmland of that magnitude, an operation that wide, couldn't possibly be managed by one man (AN: you see, I love explanation parts like this, in my opinion, they're the juiciest part of a book). Another was, why was he living alone to begin with, and why were his eyes that bright. But the main one that didn't even escape the eye of the princess was the fact that that morning, when Roan greeted them, he didn't even look back. He woke up, he just looked outside while greeting them, how on earth did he see them. Now more than ever, this boy was of more and more interest. And here the old man was thinking that he had seen all there was to see. He had seen skills more spectacular, but none had been so unrefined and unique.

He made way to the same place that the village head himself took them the previous day. The place must have been reputable for even someone that seems to barely visit village to recommend. They placed orders and ate in calm silence, although it seemed that Roan would see no end to the food he ate. As if preordained, the eyes of the butler met those of the village head at the back of the stall, like drop of water in the sky, completely inconspicuous. "My princess, I have some minor business to attend to", the butler whispered, the princess made a quick glance in the store and saw the village head's presence beckoning for that of the butler, "Be quick about it, we will soon be leaving", the princess cautioned, "It will be only be but for a minute". The butler made his way to the village head so they could properly converse. "So. Have you properly seen all you wanted", the village head asked, "He is a special one indeed, may I ask, has he ever been trained in martial arts". The village head was served his food, but began a story before he did. "For you to truly understand this boy, you need to hear his story", the butler listened attentively as the village head began his story. "My family is one that has lived on this land even before this land became encapsulated as a country, and even before then, it was Roan's family that lived on this very land, and as such, the history of our lineages has been intertwined, there are more marriages between our families than I even care to count. So, when Hanon was born, I couldn't help but be happy at the new addition to our little village. His family ran the farm of the village, and did so effectively. There was an unusual shortage of help around the time of his birth, because most of us had gone far and wide to look for work outside of our little village. The modified silo is proof of their efforts. They gained monopoly of almost all the raw food sourcing in the village, then three and half years later, little Roan was born, I was one of the first to know and see him, the first moment he opened his eyes, his eyes sparkled with the same intensity of blue that they do so today. He was like a diamond in our village, so they began the golden pair brothers of the village, they were closer than anyone else, they weren't like opposite sides of a coin, they were the same side. It all seemed so beautiful to play with those two. But one night, it all fizzled off. I was with my father that night, we were the last ones to finish eating. I was about getting up when I, well, I think just about everybody in the village felt it that night. The fear you feel as a child, when a gigantic beast, or maybe an assassin came to take your life, that unexplained despair when a mere child is face-to-face with an insurmountable danger, for about a minute, I think all movements were paused in the whole village. It's almost unbelievable, for a whole village to be at a standstill just from the presence of an individual. It was like this until someone finally found the courage to shout, a shaky shout that echoed through all the houses, it's coming from the farmhouse!!!, unexpectedly, I was the first to start running, because the only thing I could think of at that time was Roan and Honan, facing whatever trouble was brewing. I got there and what I saw was even worse than I imagined. There Roan stood, merely twelve years old, his fists clenched, and bloodied, atop two bodies, beaten to death, and another two, his father and his mother, lying lifeless and sprawled on the floor, he turned his face to me and I saw something rather beautiful, and rather dreadful, his left eye, once sparkling in a bright and radiant blue, gleamed with a dark and deep red, the eye resonated with bloodlust, with anger and everything in between. He was crying, he seemed like the scariest thing imaginable, and he was crying. He asked with a contoured face, I couldn't tell whether it was hatred, worry or bloodlust written on his face, he asked, Yo Yusha, have you seen Hanon, I saw him right there, now he's gone. Then everyone else rushed in, I was the only one that saw his red eyes. It was that night that I realized my purpose. The main point is, Roan is anything but weak, the men who he killed were members of a cult, and neither of the two were weak. If he will be able to help, please take good care of him, the journey ahead of him is no easy road, and I pray that he has the strength to do what must be done". Now the butler was well aware that the statement of Yusha's purpose held so much more meaning than what was to be seen on the surface, but he already had so many questions of the village that that little wonder paled in comparison. The waited for but a moment, for the two of them knew that the events to occur would take place shortly.

And just on cue, turmoil began to take stir on the outskirts of the village. The people began to scream and shout for help, the men and the hunter took up their arms and went to defend their village. "I hope you're quite satisfied with yourself. It's been years since we've ever had an attack", the village head said while stealthily concealing himself in the shadows of the store and blending further into the scenery of the forest surroundings at the same time moving towards the source of the ruckus. The butler, Mr. Grey, moved leisurely to the same place, he overheard people asking around where the village head was. He wasn't surprised, if someone of the village Head's caliber were to fight, it would be barely be able to test what they wanted to. When he got there, the situation had already reached the decisive point. The village men and hunters stood tall with their spears and their blades and swords with fierce expression painted all over their faces, their backs to the village. On the other side stood thieves, by no mistake, they had scars all over their bodies, bodies dirtied from time spent tracking their next victim, some had banishment marks and some had the disposition of ronin. A man of big bulky stature stood out and up front of them, he had by far the best physique out of all of them, his muscles were huge, his body tanned, and everything about him even more sculpted than that of Roan. With numbers and in terms of strength, a clash between the village and the bandits would end in a draw, but there was one singular element that stood to change all that. It was none other than their leader could take at least four of them on at a time and still remain victorious. The leader being the strongest in the room started things off, "Well, Well, Well, I have no idea what this village is doing here, or why it has remained untouched for so long, there were always rumors of a guardian angel hovering and disposing of all those who tried to even get close to this place(At this point intime, Grey could already put two and two together and figured that the guardian angel in question was the Yusha clan), but you all seem to be just a bunch of weaklings relying on the protection of old lures. Now what we really want, around yesterday, you received two visitors, a man and a woman. HAND THEM OVER. Do that and about all the money you can muster, and maybe you can all leave alive and your ladies intact, after we've had our fun that is. Don't even try and say you...", "HEY! HEY THERE!!!, I hear you came to the village and are scaring the people, please I have to ask, what exactly did you come here to do. Or if you don't, I'm going to have to ask you to leave", Roan delivered those words after running to meet up with the crowd at the northern edge of the village, he delivered with a hospitable smile on his face. A sliver of silence followed his words, then a sudden burst of laughter flowed from the band of thieves, flooding the otherwise empty village save the few women and children taking cover in the village.

The leader of the thieves the villagers would fall on their knees and begin to beg to forgive the ignorance and stupidity. Of course, he was surprised that the villagers were no longer as tense as they once were. They starting mumbling to each other, completely obvious to the laughter of their soon to be slaughters. "AHHHHHHHH!!!!", the leader let out a huge roar in anger. "Okay change of plans men. Take everything, kill as you please and take as you please. These idiots will regret the day that they let their guard down because of this little bug. How dare you not fear us, the mighty band of the unnamed". The leader of the bandits was the sort of person that a fighting novice with a bigger build would take on without a second thought, but a veteran would steer clear, because he didn't have the biggest muscles or the biggest weapon, or even the biggest build in the whole crew of bandits, but had a little bit of everything, he was a little taller than average height, his muscles were to the point where they brought out his highest speed without weighing him down or dampening quick responses during battle. Not many noticed but even his movements were trained beyond the common criminal, even as he spoke and as he laughed and roared, his always assumed a stance that wouldn't leave him open to attacks, his hand always close to a weapon. He had a katana strapped to his back, a dagger at his hip and another on his left ankle. He was ready to destroy the whole village and strip it bear of any survivors. And all the while Roan stood without a word, but his once hospitable smile had turned into a cold stare, he looked the leader dead in the eye, and said this, "I wanted to let this go, but if you're going to my village, then you're to have to be excused by force". The bandit leader by now was outraged, but he wasn't the leader of his whole legion with just brawn. "Okay you worthless little piece of trash, there's no need to make this bloody, let's have a fight. If you win, we leave, in fact, we'll even give you some merchandise we got on the way here. If you lose on the other hand, then we get everything, the village, the women, the money, the food, everything, right from the smallest carrot to the biggest house, we get it all, even the lives of your villagers. Let's see if they still trust you now". After the bandit leader said this, much to the surprise of the bandits, none of the villagers rejected it, a lone bandit said while unsheathing his blade, "You pleebs mustn't tell me you think this shrimp has a chance does he. Boss, forget the deal, let's kill this lot and burn everything they ever owned to the ground". He wasn't the only one, unease began to rise from those around him, but the boss put them all to rest, "Hey, calm down. You didn't really think would be a fight. This is a one-sided slaughter. I want these people to put their hopes in this boy, but the fight won't be a quick one. I'll play it out, tire him, wear him down, shave away at him bit by bit, I'll let him get a few punches, and when the villagers have a glimmer of hope that they might be able to get out of this, I'll drag him down again, right up until I'm tired of it. They'll regret the day they were ever born. Those of you who don't want to watch, surround the village. I'll have a little fun". The boss' face contorted with cruel sinister pleasure. The bandits let out bouts of shouts as some went to surround the village to make sure that their quarry didn't escape. The boss made his way carelessly to Roan, all the while Roan kept his cool, without saying a word, with a cold and glassy stare on his face. "Go on, I'll let you take the first punch". The boss said while tapping his cheek as if edging on a child. Roan, at this stage had no more restraint and walked forward, and when near enough, lunged. The bandits' boss was a proud one to say the least, but as previously stated he wasn't an idiot, he could vaguely, but instinctively tell when an attack would do him harm, and this one most certainly would. As Roan lunged, he threw a fist at the boss, who instinctively blocked with his two arms in a slanted upside-down T (I got to my first fight, this calls for a celebration). The boss thought to himself, who knew the kid would know how to throw a punch, but his form's all wrong, it would be great if he could join us, he's got potential, what a shame though, he's going to have to die for acting cheeky, I might actually have to put effort into this. He drew his sword from his back with a sinister look in his eyes, "kid, this about to get messy, if you want to commit suicide, now's as good a time as you'll ever get", "Enough with the cheap talk, come at me", Roan had just about run out of patience to have made this remark and there was no way the bandit boss was going to let a comment like that slide. He went swinging, every slash, stab and thrust, carefully planned, perfectly executed and thoroughly trained for, among bandits he would be among the best, even though most fighters with formal training would be able to match up with him.

The bandits stood in awe, partly due to the skill and power and the leader, but more to the Roan, who seemed to be effortlessly dodging all of the boss' attacks. His face carried a bit of seriousness, something was uncharacteristic of him. Eventually he saw the opening he was waiting for, the bandit aimed for his right shoulder with one arm clenching his blade to deliver a fatal strike, and Roan let him in just enough to make him think that he had succeeded. Then just as the blade was about to make contact, he shifted the sword with his left hand and gave the bandits' boss a point-blank hit. No one was more surprised than the boss himself, the wind of battle was definitely blowing in the direction of Roan, and this infuriated the boss. Even more so because something he had never expected to happen did. He looked to the ground and saw the red essence of all human life, yes, he was indeed bleeding, Roan had broken his nose, with one hit. And so, the leisurely fight began a frenzy of attacks from the bandit. He kept attacking and Roan just kept dodging, he made intermittent attacks that weren't careless, but just to wear down his opponent. Before long, the bandit opponent was panting and trying to keep up with the pace of battle that he started. Roan, being the ever so kind person that he was, said, "You know, you can just leave, this doesn't have to go this way. I won't ask why you decided to go around stealing from people, but I won't accept anyone, for any reason to come and harm my village. So, I'll give you this last chance, go now or this won't end well for you or your boys". The bandit boss' flinched, never in his twenty years of banditry did he ever expect to be beaten so easily. His father had been a bandit, and so had his mother, he had learnt the ways of trickery and thievery from the early stages of his life, he had surpassed his father in strength and beat him to become the leader of the group he leads today, and there he stood, panting and bleeding at the feet of a boy no doubt at least 10 years younger than him. Like all things unwilling to bend, he eventually broke. "Boys, enough of the joke, get here and let's f**k things up", the bandit leader called for the best of his men. "I thought this was supposed to be a one-on-one fight, why are you calling your men", "Shut up, I'll admit that you're strong beyond your age, but I'd rather be caught dead than be defeated by the likes of you. So, I'll make sure you don't live to tell the tale". The men began to gather at the entrance of the village, expecting a full bloodbath. Then, out of nowhere, the ever so trust worthy village head Yusha came out of nowhere and made his grand reveal, "old man Yusha, where have you been. I was worried because these guys had gotten you, that's why I was worried about them in the first place", "I am so sorry, a friend in a neighboring village had a little party and I just had to attend. Okay people, it's okay, you can all go home now, nothing to worry about here", the village head put everyone's fear to rest, they were worried at first because Roan seemed to be having a hard time with his opponent, but now that their village head the honorable Yusha came out, it put all their fears to rest. "Pardon me good sirs, but as my lady and I are responsible for this this incident, I simply cannot let it pass without rendering assistance. I suggest the three of us take on these men. It might prove a bit of sport". And so, the three of them, backing the already sparsely populated crowd behind them, faced off against the gang of no less than 50 men. What an interesting matchup.
