The next day, Murray received a message from Father Vincent informing him that the meeting of the top officials of the Church last night had gone just as he had predicted. The conclusion they had reached upon investigation of the shroudsoldier's ambush was more of a boast.
They thought that the shroudsoldier hadn't harmed anybody except trying to kidnap Mir and Murray because it feared the Church of Sunbreaker! It feared that once it laid a hand on someone officially tied to the Church, the retaliation would be too intense. As for the two of them, Mir wasn't even officially a recruit, and Murray had very little ties to the Church, not to mention, the cult's main target was the latter. Kidnapping them for the diary wouldn't be that big of an issue. It all made sense!
