That evening, there was a knock on the door while their parents weren't home. Murin called over Mir to handle it, much to his relief. They had been repeatedly instructing her to exercise more caution at every turn, and despite her stubborn personality, the warnings were working.
The visitor turned out to be Officer Galloway. He had a large cardboard box in his arms. Entering the living room, he set it on the table gently.
"I told you the department was going to compensate your family for that detainee's escape and our failure to provide adequate protection in the first place. Here it is!"
Galloway sounded pretty satisfied with himself since he was the one who had applied for the compensation on their behalf. Mir's thankfulness came from the heart. After signing a couple of sheets for formalities, he could no longer hold back the curiosity and asked, "What's inside? Do you know?"
