"Leaving the Church on your own? We'd never force you to agree to any challenge where the stakes go against the Church's interest!" The leader of the trio exclaimed, sounding scandalized.
This act was necessary, but not voluntary. They needed to maintain a sense of propriety, and this half-hearted denial would be the gloss over their impure motives.
"You're not forcing me to agree to anything. I was the one who came up with the idea," Murray said with an eye roll, giving them exactly the response they wanted to hear from him.
