Mir and Vin were crouching at the border of a massive hole that took up nine-tenths of the floorspace ahead. The hole was perfectly rectangular, as if dug by machine to be accurate to the tiniest measurements, with a length of more than fifteen meters. If they wanted to cross it, they'd have to stick to the wall on either side, relying on a foot-wide, tilted ledge that offered hazardous footing. One slip could take them tumbling down into the mass of frothy, gray, gel-like substance that occupied the entire hole, bubbling like lava.
