Charlotte wasn't the only one using this chance to learn; at first, Juba's attacks had little effect. He could push and hit him as much as he wanted, but they barely even slowed or hurt him. Instead of blunt attacks, Juba switched to slashing attacks as he made wind blades to cut Charlotte.
The attacks got thinner and sharper the longer it went on till, eventually, he was able to slice his skin and flesh, making him grunt in pain as blood spilled out. The second issue is that Charlotte was forced to rely on his other senses to feel the attacks coming and dodge them. He had learned something quite astounding now that he had missed before, but Juba's Chi couldn't be seen when he controlled the wind, so that advantage was tossed in the trash.
The wounds were plentiful but not big, so his body recovered quite easily; still, the blood loss was less than helpful. He was tempted to summon his gauntlets, but that would defeat the purpose of this whole training session. Despite not liking the pain, he wasn't about to give up.
Charlotte didn't notice when it happened, but he felt something leave his body. Suddenly, the cave was illuminated for just a second. He saw Juba standing on an air platform, and Charlotte jumped to try to attack him.
Charlotte didn't manage to hit him. Instead, a slashing attack hit him across the nose and eye. He fell back on the ground, screaming in pain as he ripped a chunk of rock from the cave and threw it in his direction. He wasn't sure if it hit him, but the attacks stopped momentarily.
"Sorry about that; I must have hit you somewhere important for you to scream like that. I'll be honest, and I'm surprised it hasn't happened sooner; I can't exactly see you. I'm using the wind to detect your movements, and your short stature is throwing me off." Juba's voice sounded apologetic, but Charlotte was slightly angry about having his eye attacked. He was gonna take a while to heal from that, and the pain was almost unbearable.
His voice came from behind him as he ripped another chunk of rock and tossed it at him. Charging in that direction soon after, he felt the wind rush to his left and immediately turned and swung. Once more, he struck nothing but air, and a blow struck him in the back and sent him a few steps forward.
That attack was guided mainly by his anger, but it did at least alleviate his anger slightly. He tried to focus on his feelings from before. As he once more released, the light inside him illuminated the cave; one issue was that he couldn't exactly turn it off. It was like releasing a dam; it did help him as he dodged the wind blades headed in his direction, and Juba raised his hands in surrender as his feet touched the ground. Now that he got a clear view of him, he seemed to be entirely exhausted himself.
"Can you turn it off? It's a bit too bright, and I can't exactly look at you." Juba was squinting his eyes and raised his hand to block the light.
"Yeah, I already tried; it's hard. It isn't easy; doing the opposite of what I did isn't working." Charlotte responded, closing his eyes and trying to push the light inside himself. It was not working at all, though.
The light was weakening, and he felt some of his Chi disappear. He tried to force his Chi to focus on his hand, but the light shot out of his hand like a flashlight. When he focused it on his heart, it would shoot out of his entire body. Eventually, he focused most of it on his heart and a small chunk on his eye to heal it much quicker.
"Alright, let's just let it run out. Do you think you can shoot light like this alone?" Juba asked, trying to walk past him and returning to the entrance. Charlotte followed behind him, and he at least made his way back much more manageable. Now, they could see the animal bones resting on the ground near the edges of the cave. The walls of the cave had something akin to chains on them.
"Yeah...We should probably leave; I don't think this cave is uninhabited." Charlotte eventually stopped emanating light as they reached the entrance. He was half expecting there to be an animal ready to throw down. To his surprise, the two were saved from that pain.
The walk back had gone fairly well until he started shooting light out of his body again. Charlotte and Juba had to run back to the field, and an eagle and the pack of wolves from before ended up chasing them.
Juba negated the threat of the eagle since he could send blows of wind to knock it out of the air, and the pack immediately jumped to attack the eagle. The eagle seemed capable of shooting out some of their feathers, and when it struck any of the wolves, they fell to the ground. They didn't seem to die, but it stopped them enough for the eagle to fly back upward. This bout between them gave the two enough time to escape the forest as they arrived at the field.
Nobody there had time to question Charlotte's current glowing condition as some wolves jumped out of the forest and towards them and the students. Charlotte had chains wrapped around his body by one of the wolves as it bit into his shoulder; it wasn't that effective, though, as it barely pierced the skin before Charlotte broke out of the chains and struck it in the chest, sending it back.
He didn't have to do much more, as the other students didn't seem phased by the sudden attack. Different abilities were used to dispatch the wolves quickly. The one he struck had the ground open up before being crushed.
Charlotte turned to Juba and was met with different gazes from the other students. Most had to cover their eyes when looking his way, as he was still sending light outwards. Their gazes embarrassed him, making him want to crawl into a hole and hide. Their gazes also had the unintended effect of making him stop glowing. So, at least he learned how to turn it off; recall this moment.
