Chapter 49 - Overwhelming strength

Charlotte was surprised by Arc and Fang; Arc showed fantastic control of his ability. Much like Iza, it seemed he held great mastery over his magic. The one noticeable mistake he appeared to be making was the type of strategy didn't suit him; he used the spikes to take Fang's focus before trying to stab him with the pike. He backed off as soon as he finished his attack.

Fang's combat mastery felt more refined; Charlotte was tempted to say he might be better than Iza. It was almost like he had eyes on the back of his head as he easily dodged and weaved his attacks. But something quickly became apparent as Fang wasn't trying to win. If anything, he was stalling.

Fang kept looking at Charlotte, his gaze lasting momentarily before focusing on the fight. The stage had changed quite a bit; with all the spikes protruding from the stage, it looked almost like a stone-made forest. Eventually, the two figures could barely be seen from where they sat as they danced in the forest.

The good news was that his stalling was helping him greatly; he already felt much better. The sun's light was once again painfully bright, but he felt way better. He had also recovered most of his Chi. Iza had also recovered; she was back to normal. She seemed to have recovered from the aging as well.

The teachers seemed to shift noticeably as they looked at the stage with much more intensity; the pillars seemed to begin breaking apart on the stage. As they fell, the figures of both fighters were revealed once more. Fang was still uninjured; Arc had the skin and meat on his left arm missing, and the only thing left was the skeleton, which seemed almost to be disappearing as well. Arc practically stood on the edge of the stage as the effect seemed to stop.

Around Fang, pillars near him would seem to begin getting torn apart by nothing. One threatened to fall on him, but before it could even get near his head, it disappeared almost as if it was being consumed by something. Fang turned his gaze towards Charlotte, gave a thumbs up, and tilted his head; he seemed to be asking him if he was okay. It worried Charlotte since the teachers might get upset that Fang had done this, but he gave him a thumbs up.

Fang smiled and crouched down as he tapped the ground three times. The two vanished from the stage and were teleported back to their seats. Arc's arm was fixed, but he didn't seem to be able to move it as it hung uselessly. He grabbed onto the wrist and set it on his lap.

"Impressive showing as always, Fang, although I wished you wouldn't waste time doing such a thing and then give up. As for you, Arc, I see, much like the rest of the people here, you fear his power. How will you expect to beat him if you fear getting close? Although even I would be hesitant to get close."

A few students nearly said something but ultimately decided to stay quiet. Charlotte does wonder how exactly Fang's power works; it almost seems to disintegrate things away at things. But it surely couldn't be that simple. Haze's powers practically appeared to make the light extremely bright, and his blows rattled him from the inside.

He turned around and waved at Fang, who in turn waved back. The name of another student from the light red section was called, and the two were teleported onto the stage; it seemed he wasn't a target any longer, and instead, they were going to attack the crippled Arc. Which was a relief for Charlotte, as he was trying to wipe the blood he had on his face with his sleeves.

Arc wrapped stones on his right arm, almost like armor. He didn't look like he could bend his arm, but it at least helped prevent it from being useless. As soon as they were signaled to fight, the ground erupted as spikes shot out; she had two tiny daggers in her hands and was almost similar in height to Charlotte. She used her small stature to slip between the spikes as she ran towards him.

A wall of earth would lift in her path before a small opening was made in the middle as the spike shot out and nearly stabbed into her shoulder. She jumped on the pike, using it as a springboard to launch herself over the wall. A golden aura wrapped around the weapon as it vanished; Arc didn't have long to be surprised. The wall shifted and shaped into a malformed hand as it tried to grab hold of her; the golden aura surrounded her as the hand closed around her.

Charlotte rubbed his eyes, thinking he was seeing things; a white glow emanated from the stone wrapped around his right arm and the giant malformed hand. When the hand opened, the only thing left behind was a dagger stuck in the palm. She seemingly popped out of nowhere behind Arc.

She stabbed her other dagger into the ground before jumping towards his legs, trying to grab them. Arc changed the shape of the stones around his right arm to the shape of a hammer and brought it down onto her. She barely managed to lift her hands and grab onto the hammer; she still got slammed onto the ground but at least prevented herself from getting crushed by it. The golden aura seemed to spread from her hands to the hammer and start quickly moving up. Arc pulled the hammer away, only for half of it to be gone, along with his arm.

He didn't seem to dwell on it as he tried to bring his foot down on her head. She vanished and appeared on the palm of the malformed hand. She grabbed the dagger and used the palm to launch herself towards him. The dagger was tossed toward his leg; he brought a stone wall to block the dagger; she vanished once more, appearing at the dagger she had stabbed into the ground before. As soon as she did, spikes shot out from the ground and stabbed into her before he used the remaining stone on his arm to create a crude blade and point at her neck.

"Surrender, it's my victory."

She hesitated before nodding as the two were teleported back to their spots. He could hear the girl silently cursing, which was a bit funny if he had to be honest. She had quite the temper.
