Chapter 40 - Released tension

Charlotte moved swiftly as he tried to slam his fist into their face. This blow was redirected as wind surrounded the Student's body like a barrier.

A hand shot out of the barrier and slammed into his ribs as Charlotte pulled away and raised his guard.

"What, you scared?~"

He taunts from inside the barrier as parts of the barrier shoot out like arrows toward him; Charlotte takes a deep breath, crouches down, and brings his guard up to his head. He kept his form compact as he charged directly at the barrier. He didn't avoid his attack, letting it hit his gauntlets or body.

The attacks hurt and managed to pierce his skin, but they didn't slow him down at all. The intensity of the wind spinning around the Student's body sped up, pulling dirt and rocks into itself, making it all that much more painful.

This didn't slow down Charlotte, who rammed directly into the barrier and the Student. The two came out the other end. Charlotte's clothes were in tatters, and his body had multiple cuts all over. None of them looked that serious, as they had only pierced his skin. The chestplate underneath the robes had also protected him quite well and showed no sign of being damaged. The Student fell to the ground and was gasping for air.

Charlotte took off the gauntlets and tossed them onto the ground. Then, he ran over and pinned the Student down, bringing his fist onto his face. Every blow he landed on the face of the Student made him feel a bit better.

The Student didn't take it standing down at some point; he grabbed Charlotte's arms, and the wind began slashing onto his arms. He tried to pull his arms away, but his grip on the Student remained strong; the two glared at each other as they seemed to be at a standstill.

A standstill Charlotte was losing as he began to feel his vision blur and weakness spread through his body. He was losing too much blood. He brought down his head and headbutted him on the nose, hitting him two more times before the grip of the Student weakened enough to break free. He quickly jumps to his feet, and as he is about to bring down his foot on the face of the Student, Reese appears and stops him.

"That's enough. If he does more than this, he might be out of commission for the rest of the month..."

Despite his tone sounding very monotone, his gaze maintained their usual kindness. He looked down at his arms, took some bandages from his pocket, and handed them to him.

"Fix yourself up, and use your Chi to heal...bleeding out would be a pathetic way to go."

He would then turn to the Student and pick him up, looking at the crowd around him and yelling.

"GO TO BED, YOU ALL STILL GOT CLASSES TOMORROW!"

The students immediately began moving away, some occasionally looking over at Charlotte. He didn't pay their gazes any mind as he began focusing his Chi on his hands and bandaging them up. As soon as most of his Chi was focused on healing his arms, his legs started trembling as it took all his will to avoid falling on his ass.

"Thanks, Reese."

He nods as he vanishes in a single moment, leaving Charlotte alone. He made sure nobody else was around before falling back on the ground. His body felt so heavy, and the blood loss only seemed to make it worse. He did feel a lot better not to be beating that guy up. Now, he should send the message not to mess with him, especially with so many witnesses.

"You need to work on your guard."

That voice sounded familiar; he looked back and saw Iza looking down at him. He managed a half-hearted wave and smile.

"...Good fight, you did very well."

She offered him a hand to help him, which he gladly took. He honestly wanted to say a few things, but all of them seemed to leave him.

"So...do you watch fights here often?"

Her stoic face seemed to crack as she let out a small laugh and smile.

"No, not really. I usually don't leave my house; there is little reason to. I was hunting something in the forest and stumbled by to see the fight. You had the right idea rushing in, especially since you don't know your power yet."

It felt nice to have someone praise his abilities without a backhand comment like his teacher. He smiled and looked down at his hands.

"Thanks, Iza. Although getting hurt like this shouldn't have happened, I kind of let my emotions control me in that fight."

He sighed and looked back up at her with a smile, although she wasn't smiling anymore and had her same stoic look again.

"How do you know my name?"

"Oh, my teacher told me."

She sighs and shakes her head. It is hard to figure out what she is thinking since her face doesn't really display her emotions.

"Oh, the name is Charlotte. It's nice to meet you, Iza."

He held out his hand for her; she looked at him for a bit and shook his hand.

After the handshake, the two stood silently, simply looking at each other before she bowed and began walking away. He was also about to leave since It was late, but he had to know one thing.

"Hey, wait...after seeing that fight, do you still want a rematch? Not now, of course, but like...when I get to your class?"

"Of course...not everyone is as willing to put their body on the line for victory as you. I respect that type of attitude when you get to where I am. I would gladly accept a rematch."

He smiled, gave her a thumbs up, and regretted it immediately. Pain coursed through his entire hand as he shook his arm.

She laughed once more and smiled slightly.

"Good luck, Charlotte, and I hope you keep improving."
