The following morning, Sophia awoke to a thunderous crash that sent her heart racing. Granny burst into the bedroom, her eyes wide with alarm.
"Sophia, dear, are you alright?" she cried, rushing to Sophia's side.
Sophia nodded, her voice trembling. "I-I think so, Granny. What was that noise?"
Before Granny could respond, a second crash echoed through the apartment, followed by the sound of shattering glass. Sophia's eyes widened with fear.
"Granny, what's happening?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Granny's expression hardened, and Sophia could see the gears turning in the older woman's mind. "Stay here, child," she said firmly. "I'm going to see what's going on."
Sophia watched helplessly as Granny hurried out of the room, her heart pounding in her chest. She could hear muffled voices and the sound of furniture being overturned, and she felt a wave of panic wash over her.
