Chapter 34 - 34.Zheng Wenbo

Because Wang Yanchao was utterly disappointed with Ye Xiu, he didn't ask Ye Xiu any more questions during the subsequent ward rounds. He even refrained from asking many questions to the interns and residents he brought along, and there were fewer interactions with the patients.

Sensing Wang Yanchao's change in mood, the interns, residents, and nurses all tactfully remained silent, trying not to say anything to avoid upsetting Wang Yanchao. Most importantly, they didn't want to get in the way of Wang Yanchao's frustrations.

Ye Xiu naturally noticed Wang Yanchao's change in demeanor, but he couldn't understand why it had happened so suddenly. He couldn't help but wonder if his previous answer had something to do with it, but no matter how hard he tried to figure it out, he couldn't see anything wrong with his response.

He had spoken the truth, after all.

Moreover, he had complimented Wang Yanchao, so why wasn't he happy?

Unable to understand, Ye Xiu stopped thinking about it. Instead, he refocused his attention on Wang Yanchao. Although there were fewer explanations and analyses from Wang Yanchao, Ye Xiu still found value in observing how Wang Yanchao reviewed and handled the medical records.

In normal circumstances, this was how most department heads and professors would mentor their students. During his time at Oxford, Ye Xiu had experienced similar methods of learning—observing professors handle patients and then reflecting on their actions and decisions. It was rare for professors to provide such detailed explanations and analyses as Wang Yanchao had done earlier.

Following Wang Yanchao on the rounds, observing how he interacted with patients, prescribed treatments, and diagnosed conditions, and then contemplating the reasons behind his actions and the potential outcomes, Ye Xiu felt that he had gained a lot from the experience.

"Director Wang, thank you. Your expertise and experience in the field are truly exceptional. I've learned a lot today! I hope to continue learning from you in the future!"

As the ward rounds concluded and they exited the ward, Ye Xiu sincerely thanked Wang Yanchao.

Butt kisser!

Naturally, Ye Xiu's words were once again interpreted as flattery by those around him. They looked at him with disdain and contempt, silently cursing him in their minds.

Wang Yanchao's eyes also showed a hint of annoyance.

However, despite his growing aversion to Ye Xiu, Wang Yanchao felt obligated to respond to Ye Xiu's gratitude. After giving a lukewarm acknowledgment, Wang Yanchao didn't even assign any tasks to the interns and residents. He hurriedly returned to his office.

"Dr. Ye, I'm heading back first."

"Dr. Ye, I have other things to attend to."

The interns, residents, and nurses all politely bid farewell to Ye Xiu.

They could all sense Wang Yanchao's dislike for Ye Xiu, and they didn't want to associate themselves with him. Moreover, after what had just happened, they viewed Ye Xiu as someone who had only gotten into the department through connections, a person who knew how to flatter but lacked real skills.

Although Ye Xiu felt the slightly more courteous and distant attitude from the other doctors, he didn't pay much attention to it.

For him, the most important thing now was to digest the lessons he had learned today. Following Wang Yanchao on the ward rounds, listening to his explanations and analyses, and seeing his treatment plans had given him many new insights and ideas. He needed to thoroughly absorb Wang Yanchao's experience and expertise and make them his own.

Back in his office, as Ye Xiu prepared to take his seat, he couldn't help but be slightly surprised. Sitting in the vacant seat opposite him was a young doctor with a handsome face but an arrogant demeanor.

"Dr. Ye, you're back. Let me introduce you. This is Dr. Zheng Wenbo. You didn't meet him yesterday because he was on vacation."

Dr. Li, who was sitting next to Ye Xiu, noticed Ye Xiu's puzzled expression and quickly realized what was going on. He pointed to the young doctor with the proud expression and introduced him to Ye Xiu. "Dr. Zheng is an elite who studied abroad."

Zheng Wenbo thoroughly enjoyed Li's introduction of him as an elite who had studied abroad.

Studied abroad?

In this Respiratory Department, besides him, there was someone else who had returned from overseas?

As he listened to Li's introduction, Ye Xiu couldn't help feeling surprised, but he also couldn't help feeling a bit more respect when he looked at Zheng Wenbo. As someone who had also studied abroad, Ye Xiu knew firsthand that studying medicine overseas was no easy feat. Those who graduated from foreign medical schools and obtained their medical licenses were undoubtedly skilled.

After introducing Zheng Wenbo, Dr. Li then introduced Ye Xiu to him. "Dr. Zheng, this is our new addition to the department, Dr. Ye Xiu. He just arrived yesterday."

"Hello, Dr. Zheng. I look forward to learning from you in the future."

With a hint of respect, Ye Xiu extended his hand to Zheng Wenbo.

Although he was already a double doctor from Oxford and had published numerous influential papers in renowned journals, and had achieved many impressive surgical feats in the field of surgery, Ye Xiu didn't have a shred of arrogance. He didn't dare to be arrogant!

A long time ago, the old man had set a good example for him, instilling lofty goals and showing him that there were higher mountains and broader skies to strive for. He made Ye Xiu realize that the road in the field of medicine was still long.

He wasn't qualified to be arrogant now.

Moreover, after witnessing Wang Yanchao's superb medical skills in the past few days, he dared not be arrogant anymore.

Wang Yanchao had made Ye Xiu realize that the world was vast, with endless possibilities. In the field of internal medicine, Ye Xiu was still a novice, with a long way to go and much to learn. So, in his eyes, every experienced doctor in each department was a role model for him to learn from. And someone like Zheng Wenbo, who had returned from studying abroad, should have even more areas for him to learn from.
