Chapter 10 - 10.Nurse Sue's Concern

Wang Yanchao arranged for Ye Xiu to be familiarized with the department by a nurse named Su Dongmei. It must be said, Su Dongmei was indeed an excellent guide. Not only was she familiar with all the doctors and nurses in the department, but when introducing them to Ye Xiu, she would also tactfully mention some of the doctors' habits and taboos.

For example, Deputy Director Li didn't like to be disturbed during his lunch break, so unless it was something very urgent, it was best not to disturb him. Deputy Director Huang particularly disliked hastily written patient records...

Moreover, what Ye Xiu especially appreciated was her excellent professionalism. She provided precise and thorough explanations for all the various instruments in the department.

By the end of the morning, Ye Xiu felt he had gained a lot. Besides the two doctors who were off duty today, Su Dongmei had introduced him to almost everyone, including those on duty in the outpatient and emergency departments. However, due to their work, the colleagues in the emergency and outpatient departments hadn't greeted him personally; Su Dongmei had simply introduced them to Ye Xiu at the door.

Furthermore, by the end of the morning, Ye Xiu had gained a comprehensive understanding of all the equipment and devices in the department.

All of this was crucial. Introductions to his colleagues could help him avoid conflicts, and understanding the equipment was vital because they would be essential tools for his future medical treatments and reference for treatment plans.

Su Dongmei had a pretty good impression of Ye Xiu as well. His attitude was very gentle and humble, and he showed great respect for her as a nurse, unlike some other doctors who were arrogant and condescending.

However, what made her a little worried was that Ye Xiu's medical skills didn't seem to be very good. Many of the medical instruments seemed unfamiliar to him, and he even seemed to have never seen some of them before, only seeming to understand after she explained them to him.

Regardless, medical skills were fundamental. If a doctor's medical skills weren't good, no matter how good their attitude or personality was, it wouldn't be of much use. They wouldn't be able to alleviate patients' worries or relieve their pain.

They say the medical school system abroad is better and produces better doctors, but Su Dongmei didn't necessarily agree. The doctor who came before, Dr. Zheng, also returned from studying abroad, but his medical skills weren't particularly outstanding, and he had a bad temper. Ye Xiu was also said to have returned from studying abroad, and while his temper seemed quite good, his medical skills probably weren't much better than Dr. Zheng's...

Su Dongmei thought to herself, feeling somewhat worried. As a professional nurse who had been in the field for several years, she knew just how important a doctor's medical skills were. If a doctor's medical skills weren't good, it could have a significant impact and lead to tragic consequences for the patients.

"Dr. Ye, I heard you studied abroad?"

During lunchtime, Su Dongmei finally couldn't help but ask, looking at Ye Xiu, who was eating voraciously across from her.

"Yeah."

Ye Xiu nodded as he continued to devour his food.

He was really hungry. Since returning to the country and starting that grueling training regimen, his stomach had suddenly become like a bottomless pit. His appetite was astonishing, especially today since he hadn't had time to eat breakfast because of the traffic.

"Dr. Ye, you've got quite an appetite."

Su Dongmei couldn't help but feel speechless as she watched Ye Xiu polish off a large plate of food in three gulps.

"Oh, yeah, I've had a good appetite lately. Sorry if I scared you, Nurse Su."

Ye Xiu looked a little embarrassed as he spoke.

"Not at all. Men should eat like this. Being able to eat well is a blessing. You need energy after all."

Su Dongmei quickly waved her hand.

"Yeah, you're right. Energy comes from eating well."

Ye Xiu wholeheartedly agreed, and with that, he stood up. "Sorry, Nurse Su, I'll go get some more food."

With that, regardless of Su Dongmei's reaction, he headed straight for the food counter.

Oh... it looks like this Dr. Ye really isn't very reliable...

Watching Ye Xiu head straight for the food counter, Su Dongmei felt even more worried.

Soon, Ye Xiu returned to the table.

Su Dongmei watched as Ye Xiu brought back two large portions of food, feeling a little stunned, she quickly waved her hand and said, "Dr. Ye, I'm already full, you don't need to buy for me."

"Uh... well, I bought these for myself."

Ye Xiu knew Su Dongmei had misunderstood, and he felt a bit embarrassed.

"Ah, I see. I thought you got an extra portion for me."

Su Dongmei also realized her mistake and felt a bit embarrassed herself. With that, she couldn't help but look at the two large portions of food in Ye Xiu's hands and said, "Dr. Ye, can you really finish all of that?"

"I can finish it. I definitely can. Don't worry, Nurse Su, I won't waste food."

Ye Xiu smiled and reassured Su Dongmei before starting to eat quickly again. Soon, one portion of food was gone, and Ye Xiu didn't hesitate to start on the second.

Watching Ye Xiu's actions, Su Dongmei couldn't help but be completely dumbfounded.

Was this really a doctor and not just a food vacuum?

"Uh... sorry, I eat a lot. Sorry to surprise you, Nurse Su."

After both portions of food were gone and Ye Xiu felt the hunger in his stomach finally disappear, he finally noticed Su Dongmei's gaze.

Was this considered eating a lot?

This was clearly a super food vacuum! He could even participate in eating competitions!

Su Dongmei didn't know what to say. She had never seen anyone eat so much before. Three portions of food, and they were all extra-large portions, each one more than she could eat in two meals... and Ye Xiu had just effortlessly finished them all. Yes, finished them all. Ye Xiu's actions while eating just now were exactly like a vacuum cleaner.

She didn't even know that Ye Xiu was actually complaining in his heart that the food in the cafeteria didn't have enough oil and water. If she did, she wouldn't know how to react.

"Dr. Ye, are medical schools abroad generally more relaxed?"

After being stunned for a while, Su Dongmei finally remembered her original purpose and looked at Ye Xiu intently.

After watching Ye Xiu eat like a food vacuum, her worries about Ye Xiu's medical skills only increased.

"It depends on the situation. Different schools and different people have different learning abilities, so it varies."

Ye Xiu glanced at Su Dongmei somewhat strangely, not sure why she suddenly asked, but he didn't think much of it. He just thought she was curious about his life abroad and gave a straightforward and objective answer.
